@ Bill,

<blockquote>can I just remove the laptop monitor all together and use the base as a “keyboard” until I replace the whole thing in the new year?</blockquote>

Yes, you can do that. The only thing that will not work after that - internal wireless card. The wireless card antenna cables running inside the display assembly and when you remove it completely, you'll have to disconnect antenna cables from the wireless card. You can use Ethernet cable or buy a USB wireless card.
Everything else should work just fine.

My hinge started acting up - eventually broke, but was able to use the laptop screen for a while - then the white portions started to yellow - and finally the screen went all white with some pin stripes down one side- but external monitor port works just fine. Hope this doesn't sound too tacky, but don't want to go through the expense of replacing this four year old laptop monitor right now - - I'm fine with using the external flat monitor I have - can I just remove the laptop monitor all together and use the base as a "keyboard" until I replace the whole thing in the new year? Glare of the white laptop screen is a bit annoying - so is working at an angle! if I remove as instructed here - will the computer not work without the attached monitor connected?

replacement of HP DV6000 worked perfectly as per you instructions
just a few hints.: remember to remove all power source, AC and battery
step 2: the lower 2 screws are of different size than the top 4 screws
on install step 4: watch out for the cables, don't get them behind the screen (lol)
and lastly: if any more than 1 screw, put all screws in before tightening, if gives a bit of wiggle room

again: thanks for the great how-to-do lesson
62 y/o and part of my bucket list was to learn, on my own, how to build and repair computers, my first laptop repair

Would this work to replace the cord connecting the webcam to the motherboard? Mine has a loose connection; sometimes it works, and sometimes it does not. Often I will hear the sound effect of a peripheral being plugged in or removed, especially when adjusting the monitor angle.

@ doVer,
If I understand correctly your laptop always works fine with an external monitor attached but internal screen fails intermittently. Do I understand your problem correctly?

If that's the case, it could be related to one of the following:
- Bad connection between the video cable and motherboard or LCD screen. Try reseating connections on both ends.
- Failing LCD screen. Try replacing the screen.
- Failed video cable. Try replacing the cable.

Unfortunately, there is no way to troubleshoot this problem without known good spare parts. If you don't have them, you'll have to guess.

Here's <a href="https://www.insidemylaptop.com/how-to-disassemble-hp-pavilion-g6-laptop/" title="HP Pavilion g6 disassembly" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">HP Pavilion g6 disassembly guide</a>.

Hi,
Really need your help. . .
Was on PES 2011 on my Hp Pavilion g6 some months back, suddenly the laptop monitor went out, lights on and all. Restarted and did a System Restore, everything was working well but would occasionally got out again with the Lcd light and fan on. Sometimes you close the lid for some and it comes back up on its own ...out again. On Safe mode its a bit dim but with the aid of a torchlight, works fine. Try restarting, only to get to the windows logo and then out. Everything looks 'ok' inside, never dropped it and its barely a year old. Works fine on an external monitor, during which i performed a system recovery, yet nothing. Turned it on some weeks back, booted well but went out on reaching the windows welcome logo. So confused and desperate. Pls what are your thoughts?

@ Jesse,

There is no simple answer to your question. This could be a problem with the inverter board, video cable or screen itself.
When I have a problem like that I install my test parts until the problem fixed.

Hi,

A couple of the screws from the hinges popped out when my laptop was dropped, and after putting it all together, and readjusting some pieces, it turns on again. But the display is very dim, and you can only see it if you hold it at certain angles, but it works fine when attached to an external monitor. I'm not sure what to do next.

Thanks,
