About a year ago, I started having issues with my laptop's power. The power harness seemed to be very loose, and I had to delicately move the AC adapter around -- sometimes I could get it charge but only for a few seconds. After a while, it seemed like I just couldn't get the wire the seat perfectly and the battery died. I had talked to someone about the issue, and they said a loose harness would require a solder-job and an expensive repair, so I kind of forgot about the laptop. Fast forward a year or so, and I noticed the old laptop lying around. I did a search and found this website, where I found out it's not soldered at all. So, I opened up the laptop and replaced the old power harness with a new one. I reattached everything and plugged the laptop in. There appeared to be no power to the motherboard. I replaced the CMOS battery and got much of the same, no LEDs lit or anything like that on the mobo. So, we have a new power harness, a new CMOS battery, a working ac adapter (used on another laptop), and I'm still seeing no power to the mobo. Could I have a short? Some issue with the motherboard? Any other help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

My fan needs to be replaced - I bought a new one that was supposed to be for 7551-7422 but all I have is the fan part - not the whole cooling module. Also the one that's in place appears to have a metal strap attached (it runs across to the heat sink, from the look of it) that the new fan just doesn't have, . It doesn't look there's a way to separate the old fan from the cooling module to put the new one in. Am I looking at replacing the whole cooling module? I'm guessing the new fan is not the right one.

I followed your guide so I could replace the DC jack.
Ordered a new one a got it installed.
But now that I have plugged it in, I don't get any lights.
I know the battery is completely dead. Would that cause an issue?
I thought at least the indicator light for electric would come on even if the battery is dead.
Any ideas what I could check? I went over everything twice now so I'm sure it's something I just overlooked.

I have 7551-7422 , unit left on by wife when found next morning the blue lights stay on no power to monitor. Turned off power button restarted, blue lights came back on and cooling fan started for one second went off and screen still black. Blue lights stay on still. Removed both memory and placed one at time in nothing firedup, reversed memory and still nothing. Connected to separate monitor and nothing yet. I assumed the video chip is out but figure need new motherboard. Would this be a good guess?
Thank you in advance. (great site)

@ David,
This could be RAM failure. Try removing RAM modules one by one. Test the laptop with each module separately.
It's possible one of them will work. If that's the case, replace the failed module.
