It’s possible that your Toshiba Satellite A105 laptop can set the BIOS password by itself, without asking you. One day you turn on the laptop and it starts asking for the BIOS password even hough you had never set it up. What’s wrong? How can you fix the problem?
Just for your information, removing the CMOS (RTC) battery will not erase the BIOS password on this model. Don’t even try it, you’ll fail.
Apparently, this laptop sets the password by itself because of some kind of glitch in the earlier BIOS releases. I believe this problem was fixed with the latest BIOS release.
But how can you upgrade the laptop BIOS to the latest version if you cannot bypass the password?
1. If the laptop is still under warranty take it to an authorized repair center. They should clear the BIOS password without any charge.
2. If the laptop is not under warranty, you can try to clear the BIOS password yourself. You’ll find instructions here and here.
After the password has been cleared, upgrade the laptop BIOS to the latest version. You can download it from the Toshiba website.

I tried this and it wiped my hard drive, all I get is “NTLDR is missing”.

Birt,
You tried what?
Google How to fix NTLDR missing and you’ll find the solution or simply reinstall the operating system from the recovery disc.

Thanks!
I also had a little bit of trouble, It took about 4 tries to get it to work. I too had to scuff up the solder pads, and tried both the paper click and a small flat head screw driver the last try.
