Guide on taking apart an Averatec laptop

Averated laptop

Do you have an Averatec laptop and not sure how to take it apart? Then this guide on taking apart an Averatec 6200 should help you. I’ve never worked with Averatec laptops myself and not sure if all models are engineered the same way, but at least this guide should give you a hint how to tear the whole thing apart.

It had an Ethernet cable plugged into it and this ripped the cable right out and broke the plastic that holds the connector in was broken. We wanted to see if there was a part/model number on the RJ45 connector or the module that houses the RJ45, phone jack, and USB ports to see if it would be possible to order a replacement.

Yep, I’ve seen this problem before on many different laptops. You plug the Ethernet cable into the jack but it will not stay in. You can make the connection work if you do not move the laptop or cable, but as soon as you move the laptop the cable falls off the jack.

Before you open up the laptop, make sure it’s not a problem with the connector on the Ethernet cable. It’s possible that the cable connector is broken and it’s missing a small plastic lock witch locks the connector inside the RJ45 jack.

If the cable connector is fine, then most likely you have a broken RJ45 port. On some laptops the RJ45 jack is located on a separate board (like in Averatec 6200 laptop) and you’ll have to replace only the board. On some laptops the RJ45 jack is permanently soldered on the motherboard. In this case the repair will be more complicated.
