How to take apart Toshiba Satellite 1900 or 1905 laptop

Toshiba Satellite 1900 1905 disassembly

This guide explains how you can take apart a Toshiba Satellite 1900 or 1905 laptop. Very good step-by-step instructions with detailed pictures.

Here are the most common reasons to disassemble this laptop:

1. Replacing the memory module. Toshiba Satellite 1900/1905 series laptops have two memory slots. One of them could be easily accessed through the bottom of the laptop. Another one is hidden under the top cover and that’s where the memory module is installed at the factory.
Let’s say the memory module installed into the hidden slot has failed. In this case, if you want to replace it yourself, you’ll have to go through all steps in the disassembly guide and remove the top cover.
This laptop can take up to 512MB SDRAM PC133, up to 256MB RAM stick in each slot.

2. Replacing the CPU cooling fan. In this model there is no easy access to the cooling fan, it’s buried deep inside the laptop. Even removing the top cover will not be enough for accessing the cooling fan. You actually will have to remove the motherboard from the laptop base, because the fan is attached to the bottom side of the motherboard. Looking for a new fan? Here’s the part number: K000826010

3. Replacing the keyboard. If you want to replace the keyboard, you don’t have to remove anything from the bottom of the laptop. Simply pop up the keyboard holder (bezel) as it shown on the picture 12, remove two screws securing the keyboard, lift up the keyboard, disconnect the keyboard cable from the motherboard and replace the keyboard. Here’s the part number for a new keyboard: K000825700

4. Replacing the DC power jack. The power jack in this model is soldered on the motherboard and tends to fail. If the power jack has failed, you’ll have to remove the motherboard and replace the power jack. Here’s how you can resolder the power jack yourself.
