With this illustrated disassembly guide you’ll be able to take apart a HP Pavilion dv5000 laptop and remove the system board. The main reason for removing the system board is accessing and replacing the cooling fan witch is located on the bottom side of the system board.
Sequence showing an HP DV5000 Laptop being dismantled. The process is aimed at the rotten Sunon GC055515VH fan, which had become horribly noisy, rattling on its spindle.
There is no easy access to the cooling fan from the bottom of the HP Pavilion dv5000 series laptop, you’ll have to take the whole thing apart.
In the step 3 you’ll have to remove all screws from the bottom. I believe the author forgot to mention that in his description.
You can use this disassembly guide for removing and replacing DVD drive, keyboard, LCD assembly, system board and other major laptop components.
The cooling fan is a part of the heat sink assembly witch could be found here for less than $25.

Ok, so my dv5000 died about 3 yrs. ago, but i’ve kept it around in the hopes of fixing it someday. it basically gets stalled from completely powering up. when i push the power button, the media buttons light up (volume, dvd, etc), then the fan starts up then dies within 2 secs. and that’s all that happens. any clue on what the issue might be? thanks.
fyi, i’ve followed your instructions on taking it apart and found nothing obviously wrong.

I took apart my hp for cleaning and now i cant get it to power back on. There is a little ribbon that hangs down and that might have something to do with it but i cant figure out where it should go. Any help?

LM,
I assume the laptop still runs fine from AC adapter, correct?
If it’s running fine from AC but will not charge the battery (after you replaced AC adapter and battery), most likely this is motherboard failure.
I don’t think the problem is related to the DC jack, because in HP dv5000 notebook the DC jack is not soldered directly to the motherboard. The DC jack attached to the power harness.
If the laptop still runs from AC adapter, it means the DC jack works properly.

Hello, I had a question. I bought a new battery and ac adapter for this laptop and it still won’t charge. Can you tell me what’s wrong and how can I fix it?

I have the same problem where my laptop will not charge even if it is plugged into the power cord. Any suggestions?

hey, wish they would have shown a bit more of the power jack assembly, my hp dv5000 doesn’t want to charge when power supplies is plugged in directly to the laptop, the only way I can charge my battery by plugging it in through the docking station, any suggestions will be appreciated.
thank Thomas.

I could use a 22# sledge about now to finish this job.
