Do you have an Averatec 3200 laptop? Do you want to know how to take it apart? Check out these photos with instructions. The author of the guide disassembled his laptop in order to repair the power jack.
The following laptop components you can access and remove from the bottom:
1. DVD drive. Simply remove screws securing the DVD drive and pull the drive from the laptop.
2. Memory. This laptop has only one memory slot and it comes with 512MB PC2700 module installed. The laptop specification says that you can install maximum 512MB into this laptop but according to memoryx.net:
Averatec shipping this laptop with the specification of 512MB max, however numerous users have reported success with installing a 1GB module in the machine.
3. Cooling module. Both the heatsink and cooling fan can be accessed and removed through the bottom cover.
4. CPU is located right under the cooling module.
The following laptop components are located inside the case:
1. Wireless card is located under the palm rest, in the lower left corner.
2. Hard drive also could be found under the palm rest. This laptop comes with a 60GB 4200RPM IDE hard drive but you can replace it with a larger and faster one.
3. The RTC (CMOS) battery also located under the palm rest, on the right side from the wireless card.

@ Kten,
It is possible. Laptop memory symptoms are similar to your description. I would try replacing memory first.

@ Kten,
This could be memory related failure. You can try replacing the memory module.

I have the same problem where My Averatec3270 just shut off in year 2006 and has been lying deadNo display & Not rebooting but all the lights switch on & it seems to charge but the hard disk display light doest flicker as it used to when booting! I had sentimental value attached with this laptop since it was bought with My first month salary of my 1st job!No doubt even to this day Iam trying to revive this sleeping zombie.
So were you able to get it started?Let me know if possible.I would be ever grateful.
Thanks,

Whew! I did it, although I took a few shortcuts. Did not totally remove the touchpad. Did not totally remove the keyboard. And couldn’t get the screw near the heat sink and didn’t realize that it was still holding the keyboard plate. But I could lift the keyboard plate about two inches on the side with the powerjack which allowed me to barely get the powerjack unscrewed. Didn’t know how to solder but tried anyway. Then I wasn’t sure where all the screws go. But I somehow figured it out, and it seems to be charging now. Thanks for the photo info! -Greg

Thanks a lot! I just successfully replaced my hard disk!
But where can I find the most recent BIOS for Averatec 3360-GE1 (E1200) / 3200 Series?

Hello:
I have an Averatec 3200 that I have been using for live music performance and recording and I am looking to replace the hard drive with one that is larger and faster. Could you tell me what brand and model/specs you would recommend as well as where I could find some resources on how to replace the hard drive myself?
Thank you for your help!
