Do you have an Averatec 3200 laptop? Do you want to know how to take it apart? Check out these photos with instructions. The author of the guide disassembled his laptop in order to repair the power jack.
The following laptop components you can access and remove from the bottom:
1. DVD drive. Simply remove screws securing the DVD drive and pull the drive from the laptop.
2. Memory. This laptop has only one memory slot and it comes with 512MB PC2700 module installed. The laptop specification says that you can install maximum 512MB into this laptop but according to memoryx.net:
Averatec shipping this laptop with the specification of 512MB max, however numerous users have reported success with installing a 1GB module in the machine.
3. Cooling module. Both the heatsink and cooling fan can be accessed and removed through the bottom cover.
4. CPU is located right under the cooling module.
The following laptop components are located inside the case:
1. Wireless card is located under the palm rest, in the lower left corner.
2. Hard drive also could be found under the palm rest. This laptop comes with a 60GB 4200RPM IDE hard drive but you can replace it with a larger and faster one.
3. The RTC (CMOS) battery also located under the palm rest, on the right side from the wireless card.

Whew! I did it, although I took a few shortcuts. Did not totally remove the touchpad. Did not totally remove the keyboard. And couldn’t get the screw near the heat sink and didn’t realize that it was still holding the keyboard plate. But I could lift the keyboard plate about two inches on the side with the powerjack which allowed me to barely get the powerjack unscrewed. Didn’t know how to solder but tried anyway. Then I wasn’t sure where all the screws go. But I somehow figured it out, and it seems to be charging now. Thanks for the photo info! -Greg

But where can I find the most recent BIOS for Averatec 3360-GE1 (E1200) / 3200 Series?

Hello:
I have an Averatec 3200 that I have been using for live music performance and recording and I am looking to replace the hard drive with one that is larger and faster. Could you tell me what brand and model/specs you would recommend as well as where I could find some resources on how to replace the hard drive myself?
Thank you for your help!

Michele,
I’ve checked a few sites selling memory modules and they all have very similar info about Averatec 3250 laptop.
This laptop has only one memory slot.
You should be able to install up to 1GB RAM module.
You should use PC2700 DDR333 SODIMM memory.
The memory module you mentioned in your question should work fine. DDR333 is PC2700.

dave,
Run memory test. If memory passes test, run the hard drive test. There could be a problem with the hard drive.
For memory test I use Memtest86+.
For hard drive test try SeaTools drive test (offered by Seagate).

Mark,
Connect just three main components (motherboard, CPU and RAM) and try turning it on with an external monitor. If the laptop will not start, try changing RAM. If still nothing, most likely this is motherboard failure.
