I’m having a problem with the video on my notebook. The right half of the screen shows flickering horizontal lines when showing colors other than white. It’s a Toshiba P35-S609 notebook.
I’ve taken it apart to fix the overheat problem and this started happening shortly afterwords. Any ideas?
If horizontal lines appear only on one side (not on entire screen) then most likely you have a faulty LCD screen. Do they look like lines on the picture below? If they do then that’s a screen problem.
Just in case make sure the video cable is properly connected to the motherboard. Reseat the connection and test the notebook again.

Here’s one more thing to try. Carefully torque the screen by moving top right and left corners of the display into opposite directions. It is possible the lines on the screen with change the pattern or disappear at all. If they do, it is also an indication of a faulty screen.

Thanks for the response. I’ve taken some photos of the exact problem I’m experiencing. I’ve tried reseating the video cable onto the motherboard and torqueing the display. Neither had any effect.
Here are the photos:
Notice the distortion on the right half of the screen

Mouse pointer on grey background causes distortion.

External monitor looks perfect, so I’m guessing it is a LCD fault. Is it possible that the other end of the connector came loose? Is this fixable with no parts or do you recommend a new display?

Rick,
I don’t think so. A loose cable (or bad cable) would affect the entire image on the screen, not just a part of the screen. Probably you have a bad LCD screen, it’s not fixable at home.

If you have the same problem and your screen looks like the example in the post then you’ll have to replace the LCD screen.
