I have a Toshiba Satellite m45-s359 laptop and lately, it’s just always shutting off. I don’t know why. I’m not doing anything special but surfing the web, and i never have lots of sites open. The right side is always warm and i can hear the fan going. It’s not very loud.. and the battery looks fine when i take it out. What’s wrong with my laptop? Please help! Thank you!
It’s possible the laptop is shutting off because the heat sink is clogged with dust and CPU overheats. You can easily check it. Remove the heat sink cover as it shown on the picture, here’s a disassembly guide for Satellite M45 laptop. Take a look under the black tape and if you see any dust, blow it off. If you find a lot of dust then you can remove the heat sink and clean it more thoroughly. Do not forget to apply new thermal paste on the CPU when you install the heat sink back in place.
Test the laptop and see if cleaning the heat sink fixed the problem.
You mentioned that the right side is always warm. Probably it’s normal, that’s where the hard drive is located. When the laptop is working, the hard drive generates heat.
