This is not for Aspire 3630! Aspire 3630 is much different than the unit in the pics. Disassembly is different!

Most likely yes, if the Compaq CD drive has same type of connector as Acer CD drive.
Remove both drives and compare them.
If both drives has same size and connector type, try replacing it.

Very informative and useful guides. I have an acer laptop, pretty old now, and the DVD drive is broken and I’m guessing it has had it and needs to be replaced. I’m going to follow the guide, remove it and install a new one. Thanks for the tutorial.

I'm not sure which one is used in your laptop. In order to find out, you can remove the drive from the laptop at take a look at the connector. Here's the difference between two drives: CD/DVD-RW optical drive

can you tell ho to remove hard drives from acer 5920

Looking at this picture I can assume that the hard drive is hidden under the cover on the bottom of the laptop. Remove the cover and see if you can access the hard drive this way.
