The following instructions will explain how to replace the hard drive and the DVD drive in an Acer Aspire 3610 laptop. I’m not familiar with Acer laptops but these instructions could be the same for other Aspire 3600 series laptops, such as Aspire 3610, 3620, 3630, 3640, 3660, 3680.

The hard drive can be easily accessed from the bottom of the laptop. Simply remove the hard drive door, remove four screws securing the hard drive caddy, disconnect the hard drive from the connector on the motherboard and remove it from the laptop.
After that remove all screws securing the hard drive to the caddy and transfer the caddy to the new hard drive.
2. DVD drive replacement instructions here

The DVD drive also could be easily accessed and removed from the bottom of the laptop. First, open the DVD drive with a paper clip, then remove one screw securing the DVD drive to the laptop, and finally pull the DVD drive from the laptop.
You’ll have to transfer the mounting bracket from the old DVD drive to the new DVD drive.

Static electricity can kill your laptop. I recommend wearing an anti-static wrist strap while working with internal parts of your laptop.

Looking at this picture I can assume that the hard drive is hidden under the cover on the bottom of the laptop. Remove the cover and see if you can access the hard drive this way.

Adam Saleem,
I’m not sure which one is used in your laptop. In order to find out, you can remove the drive from the laptop at take a look at the connector.

Very informative and useful guides. I have an acer laptop, pretty old now, and the DVD drive is broken and I’m guessing it has had it and needs to be replaced. I’m going to follow the guide, remove it and install a new one. Thanks for the tutorial.
