Heres’ how you can remove and replace the keyboard on a Toshiba Portege A200 laptop. This instructions are similar to replacing the keyboard on a Portege A100.
You’ll have to follow these steps:
1. Disconnect laptop power adapter and remove the battery.
2. Using a small flathead screwdriver remove the keyboard bezel – a plastic cover above the keyboard.
3. Remove three screws securing the keyboard to the laptop.
4. Carefully lift up the keyboard and disconnect the flat ribbon cable from the motherboard.
5. Replace the keyboard with a new one. You can search for a new keyboard for your Portege A200 using this part number: P000417270
Be careful with the keyboard cable connector on the motherboard. First, unlock the connector and then pull the cable. In order to unlock the connector you’ll have to move the brown plastic clip a little bit up, not too far, maybe 2-3 millimeters. The keyboard cable is kinda jammed between the brown clip and the white connector base.
If you noticed, both memory slots are located under the keyboard. So, you can use this guide for accessing and replacing memory modules too.
By the way, if you are replacing the keyboard because of broken or missing keys, check out this post: Fixing dead laptop keyboard keys. Maybe you can repair the keys.
