mary,

Can anyone tell me what the part number is for the video cable for the HP G60?
I’m looking to purchase this part on ebay so I can replace the video cable using this tutorial.
Called HP and would you believe they would not give me the part number?

According to the laptop service manual (I published links at the end of the guide), the LCD cable part number is 496841-001.

Also does anyone have any tips for Step 6 – Removing the keyboard cover? Any tricks to get it to come off easily? I got one section disconnected but it seemed so fragile, I wasn’t sure where or how to aply the pressure to remove it.

After all screw are removed slide it towards the LCD screen. Then lift up and remove.

@ Leah,

My laptop screen was a little loose at the hinges and the screen would kinda flicker when I opened it. Yesterday, smoke came out of the left side where the screens folds up/down.. Needless to say, the screen is just white now. I would like try and fix it. Would I need to replace the inverter and screen?

I think this could be video cable failure. It's running though the left hinge.
Take apart the display panel and take closer look at the video harness. Can you see burning marks? Try replacing the cable first.
The screen remains just white because it's not getting any data signal from the motherboard. Most likely it happens because the video cable failed.

Great information, but I have a question for you... My laptop screen was a little loose at the hinges and the screen would kinda flicker when I opened it. Yesterday, smoke came out of the left side where the screens folds up/down.. Needless to say, the screen is just white now. I would like try and fix it. Would I need to replace the inverter and screen? I was wondering if the wires (like those in step 11) that hook to the inverter, will come with a new screen if I buy one? I hope I didn't confuse you... not really sure about all of the parts involved. Thank you!!

@ Rob,

I have a HP G60 which I changed the screen. I seem to completely put it back togeather, but when I try turning it on it does not come on. What have I forgotten to do or connect.

What is not turning on the screen or the laptop? Have you checked the connection between the cable and screen? Try reseating it just in case.

@ Mark Turrill,

My compaq cg60 suffered black screen with faint images. Ordered an inverter board and replaced it with your excellent instructions. If I boot with battery power only screen lights and everything looks fine, but when I plug in ac adapter, screen gets brighter as usual but after a couple seconds turns black. Rebooting produces same results. Could my new inverter be defective?

It's hard to tell without testing the laptop with a known good inverter.
I think your problem could be related to one of the following:
- your new inverter is defective. I would try replacing it first.
- the backlight inside the screen is failing.
