@ webmasterlc,

after i replace the lcd and put it back together, it wont power on with battery or on ac, any ideas?

Maybe connection related issue? Make sure all cables plugged correctly.

@ Ati,

I replaced inverter in my acer aspire 5100 laptop. When I turn on laptop it’s works but about 10 minutes I can hear something noise from inverter and very hot.

It's possible your new inverter is defective. Did you but a new or used inverter?
I would probably try replacing it again. If the problem is still there, it's possible the backlight lamp is failing.
I don't think this is video cable related issue.

@ Cloud_Sync,

On boot-up, my screen will turn on semi-dark for a split-second and then goes exponentially dark.

How does one differentiate between the inverter board and the CCFL bulb in being the root cause of screen problems?

You cannot tell if this is inverter failure or LCD failure without testing the laptop with another known good inverter or LCD screen. If you don't have them, you'll have to guess. Try replacing the inverter board first. If it doesn't help, move to the LCD.

@ Misti,

my acer may have been left upright and fell over on its top. If I start it up it’s black with lines all over the place while running in the background. The screen looks fine. Is this an inexpensive fix?

Test your laptop with an external monitor.
If external video works fine, this could be one of the following:
1. Bad connection between the video cable and motherboard.
2. Failed LCD screen.
Try reseating the cable first. Hopefully it will fix the problem. If not, most likely this is bad LCD. You'll have to replace it. A new replacement screen might cost you about $80-100 on eBay.
