This guide shows how to remove the display panel assembly from Dell Inspiron 1200 and 2200 series laptops.
The display panel has three key components:
1. LCD screen (displays image)
2. Inverter board (power up the LCD backlight lamp)
3. Video cable (carries data signal for the LCD screen and power for the inverter board)
If you have a problem with the laptop video and not sure witch component is the culprit, it make sense to replace the whole display panel assembly. You can find replacement parts for Dell Inspiron 1200 and 2200 laptops here.
Troubleshooting tip:
Let’s say your laptop displays garbled video. Test your laptop with an external monitor and find out if the external video output has the same problem. If both internal and external video have the same issue, it’s not related to the display panel assembly. There is something wrong the the laptop motherboard, video card or memory
Also, you can use this guide for removing and replacing laptop keyboard, wireless card and cooling fan.
The disassembly guide doesn’t explain how to take apart the display assembly but you can find these instructions in the official service manual here.
