Toshiba Portege M400 Tablet PC has two memory expansion slots located under the keyboard, there is no easy access from the bottom of the laptop. In order to install more memory in this Tablet PC you’ll have to get under the keyboard. Don’t worry, it’s not as scary as it sounds.
- first of all, remove the battery and unplug the AC adapter. You don’t want to start laptop disassembly when it’s still under power.
- carefully remove the keyboard holder – plastic strip located above the keyboard. You can lift up one side of the holder with a sharp object (flathead screwdriver will work just fine) and then continue removing it with your fingers.
- under the keyboard holder you’ll find two screws securing the keyboard. Remove both screws and flip the keyboard over on the palm rest
- remove the memory cover and you’ll see both memory expansion slots
- now you can remove, replace or install more memory
You should use DDR-2 667MHz PC2-5300 memory modules for this Tablet PC.
You can use the same guide for replacing the keyboard and wireless card. The wireless card is located under the protective plastic above the memory expansion slots. In order to disconnect the keyboard, you’ll have to remove the connector cover and unlock the keyboard connector on the motherboard.

Thank-you! This was the only site I found with the instructions to replace memory modules for the Toshiba Tablet M400. Not near as scary as I thought it was going to be.

Thanks again! A year after the first comment and this quick “how to” is still invaluable.
