Thanks for the walkthru... a friend came to me crying with her bsod Mini10v "unmountable boot volume". The drive appears to have eaten itself (heads are shot I think). Going to load her up with an SSD so hopefully it wont do that again.

Alex,

But I need to replace the screen and he didn’t get to cover remove and replace the screen. I know, I know, he didn’t claim to be covering that ground, but that’s what I wanted to get at.

Take a look at this Dell Inspiron 1011 service manual which is published on Dell website:
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins10v/en/sm/index.htm
You'll find laptop disassembly instructions including LCD screen removal/replacement.

In order to replace the screen, you'll have to separate the display panel from the laptop base and remove the screen bezel.

Dood,

I just have one question: can I save my data ?

Yes, you can.
1. You remove the hard drive from the laptop as explained in the video.
2. You install this hard drive into an external USB enclosure and access your data from any other working computer. Read this tutorial: http://www.insidemylaptop.com/recover-files-from-broken-laptop/

Thank you for explaining how to get to the memory, I was not sure how to do it and was becoming a little nervous at the thought of tearing the mini apart. Your video was very informative and has given me the ability to take on the task of installing new memory. Thank you again.
