Today I will disassemble an Asus Q500A-BHI7T05.
Make sure the laptop is turned off before you start taking it apart.
Unlock and remove the battery.
Remove two screws securing the service cover on the bottom.
Lift up and remove the cover.
Under the cover you can access the hard drive, both RAM modules and wireless card.
Remove four screws securing the hard drive bracket to the case.
Slide the hard drive assembly to the left to disconnect it from the motherboard.
Lift up and remove the hard drive.
Using a sharp object remove the optical drive screw cover located on the bottom.
Remove one screw securing the optical drive.
Slide the drive to the left and pull it out of the laptop.
Remove all shown screws from the bottom of the laptop.
There are three different types of screws and I circled them with different colors.
Four “red” screws are the same length as “yellow” screws but a little bit wider.
Eight “green” screws are smaller.
Using a plastic stick or a similar tool start separating the top and bottom covers from each other.
Continue separating the top palm rest/keyboard assembly from the bottom.
Removing the top cover assembly probably the hardest part in this guide.
The motherboard attached to the bottom cover.
Be careful when you lift up the top cover. There are a few cables connecting it to the motherboard.
Let’s disconnect cables one by one.
The power button board cable glued to the fan with double sticky tape.
Carefully separate the cable from the fan.
In order to disconnect the cable you’ll have to:
1. Lift up the cable retainer – white tab on the connector (green arrow).
2. Pull the cable from the connector.
Disconnect the second white cable (touchpad) the same way.
Unlock the keyboard connector (green arrow) and pull the cable out (yellow arrow).
Disconnect the keyboard backlight cable. The connector is very small.
Now you can remove the palm rest/keyboard assembly.
On the other side of the assembly you can access the power button board and touchpad.
Also, it’s possible to separate the keyboard from the cover and replace it separately.
I don’t shown how to do that in this guide but I think it should be very difficult.
Replacement keyboards for Asus Q500A laptops available on eBay for $30-40.
When the top cover removed, you can access and remove (if necessary) the power connector.
The power cable secured to the case with yellow tape. Remove the tape.
Lift up the DC jack from the case.
Disconnect the DC jack cable from the motherboard.
You’ll have some limited access to the connector but it’s definitely can be done without removing the whole motherboard.
Remove the power connector assembly. Now you can replace it if necessary.
Both audio ports located on a separate USB/audio board.
If one of the ports failed, just replace the entire board.
Before you can remove the motherboard, it’s necessary to disconnect two antenna cables from the wireless card located on the bottom.
Disconnect five cables from the motherboard.
Remove tape securing the display cable connector and unplug it.
Unplug two more cables located in the upper right corner.
Disconnect and unplug the USB/audio board cable.
Disconnect one more cable located on the left side from the display connector.
Remove six screws securing the motherboard.
Start removing it from the case as shown on the following picture.
Remove the motherboard from the bottom case.
On the other side you can access the CMOS battery.
In order to remove the cooling fan assembly, you’ll have to remove four screws securing the heatsink and unplug the fan cable.
