You are eligible for a free repair if you experience one or more problems with some HP laptops even after the original factory warranty is over. The following laptops are included in the Limited Warranty Service Enhancement program.
UPDATE: This program through HP is over but… it looks like NVIDIA recognized that some laptops could be affected by graphics chip failure.
HP Pavilion dv2000, dv6000, dv9000.
Compaq Presario v3000, v6000.
HP Pavilion dv6000, dv9000 and v6000 failure symptoms:
1. The wireless card is not working properly.
2. Your laptop has no video on both internal LCD screen and external monitor.
3. The laptop has no power and LEDs will not turn on.
4. The laptop will not start.
5. The battery charge LED doesn’t turn on even when the power adapter is connected.
6. The laptop gives you a beep error message on start up.
7. The laptop works fine with an external monitor but there is no image or the internal LCD screen.
Pavilion dv2000 and Presario v3000 failure symptoms:
1. There is a problem with the wireless card.
2. There is no video on the laptop LCD screen on external monitor.
For more information please read HP Limited Warranty Service Enhancement program here. I removed the link because HP program is over. Now you can check if your model was affected by bad video chip on this NVIDIA GPU Litigation site.

We have the dv6000 and it recently started the beeeeeep beep beep on startup with the blank screen… it was intermittent at first, but fairly consistent now. Anyway, called hp; they initially were ready to sell me down the river, but I protested kindly and they relented. However, they really pushed the extended warranty. I declined pending repair, as I don’t need an extended warranty on a laptop that is dead… IMPORTANT NOTE: they said that the program covering the dv6000 motherboard will expire FEB 28, 2009. So, if you are in doubt about your laptop’s m-board, ask before it’s too late. I’ll repost here w/ whether or not they were able to help and whether or not it was free.

If I bought my laptop in Oct. 2006 will it still be covered under the service enhancement program because my laptop was working fine until it just shut off. I thought it was hibernating and then it was making a beeping sound and it turns on to a black screen. Now the computer won’t start on or it turns on with a black screen.

PH,
I don’t know. You’ll have to call HP and explain your situation. Please let us know if they do.

Hi there
I bought my dv9000 when I worked in the
States in 2007 and it’s giving me problems (like the ones listed above), but I live in South Africa. Will HP still fix it for free (incl. shipping etc.)?
Thanks

Just got my dv9000 back from HP repair under Limited Warranty Service Enhancement so better keep an eye on that “great machine” before your 24 months are up! Bought mine Aug 2007. Had no picture, would not start.

We had a HP DV6000 start doing the long Beep, two short beeps. It is used as a editor for our news department. I did the chat with HP support, and they ran me through some stupid tests and then checked warranty. This computer is at least 2 years old. He came back and said it was out of warranty but talked to his supervisor and is sending out a box for me to ship it in. Sucks as we won’t have it while it is repaired but cool they are taking care of it.
We had problems with the wireless on this one before too. Sometimes it was there, other times it was not. funny. Guess HP realized they had a lot of lemons on this one. My personal dv9000 series is a great machine, except for Vista…
