Hi, having problems with my dv2000, out of warranty, but thought i would try this before being charged a fortune for a repair. When i press the power button to turn the laptop on the lcd lights light up but nothing else happens, the screen stays blank and i can’t hear the fan either. Complete novice with laptops but any help would be greatly appreciated.

kaushal bhatt,
There could be a problem with laptop memory. If you have two RAM modules installed, try removing them one by one. Test the laptop with each RAM modules separately. This way you can find a faulty RAM module. The laptop will start with a good one but will not start when a bad RAM is installed.

didid,
First of all, check memory. Could be bad memory module.

Traci,
Did you test the laptop with an external monitor? Can you get picture on the external monitor? That would be the first thing to try.

Robert Mallia,
First of all thy this.
Unplug the power adapter, remove the battery and wait for a few minutes. Now plug in the power adapter and try turning the laptop on again.
If it doesn’t help, you’ll have to test the power adapter, maybe it’s dead.

My HP Pavilion Dv2000 (dv2132ea) cannot switch on either with the battery nor if connected to the mains. Is it its internal power supply… What can I do please???

Yes, thank-you for this posting, I bought a dv9205ca and it worked great until the warranty expired.
I had handed this down to a family member and one day the screen went black. Called HP support and they told me that this Laptop qualified for free service. Sent me the shipping box and about 12 business days the Laptop arrived with a brand new Motherboard. Everything works great. Hats off to HP for backing this particular Laptop.

I have a Hp dv9000 it was bought in 2005 had a 1 yr warranty on it, and has been used very lightly. now all of a sudden, it decides to not start up, have taken it apart, checked lcd wires, and nothing. Hp says they cannot repair it without some sort of charge. I am VERY frustrated!! It should not cost me 250$ to fix a laptop that should be lasting at least 5 years to begin with. Tech said maybe I could upgrade it, then, lol the only computer that is not offered for upgrades…(to my surprise) is DV9000! Go figure. I am very upset with HP and feel I am out of 780$! I wish there is something that can be done. Please help?

Vernon Bartlett,
Do you mean the optical drive physically opens up by itself? I’ve seen that problem before. Access the device manager, find the CD/DVD drive entry in there, right click and uninstall (or remove). Restart the laptop and let it detect the optical drive again. Should fix the problem.
Could be software or hardware related problem. I cannot tell without testing the laptop. Download and install CDBurnerXP – a free CD/DVD burning software. Can you burn with this software?
Again, it’s hard to tell what’s going on.
Could be bad memory module. Remove one of the modules and test the laptop with each module separately. This way you can find a faulty memory module if you have one. Also, could be related to the motherboard.

John Demsys,
If the backlight turns off but you still can see a very dim image on the screen, most likely it’s related to the inverter board.

I have been having 2 issues since December 2008 with my HP DV9000.
1) DVD/CD player/writer opens at random, gives faulty reads, and fails to write. Have never burned a DVD/CD successfully.
2) Resets itself multiple times when trying to cold boot. Often 13 times or more before successfully booting. Drive replacement did not cure problem.

I have a hp dv2000, the lcd screen comes on for a second when I open the lid but then disappears. The external display does work. Could be a inverter problem; I let every know. Laptop is about 2 yrs old. (Hp would not fix it for free)
March 31st, 2009 at 9:06 pm
loki,
Could bad inverter board (most likely) or bad backlight lamp inside the LCD screen (less likely).
Not all dv6000 laptops and not all video problems are covered by this warranty extension, only some of them.

I just got off the phone with HP for the second time after seeing this post. My backlight went out (comes on for a second then goes out again); external works fine. I have a DV6000 Notebook. I told them that I had seen this information and they refuted it, saying it’s not in HP’s warranty info. I’ve been trying to navigate the HP’s online extended warranty maze without success for the last hour or so. Guess you have to get lucky to get it repaired for free.
March 24th, 2009 at 9:17 pm
tigertony,
Could be loose or bad cable. If you feel comfortable, you can try reconnecting the video cable connection on the motherboard.
Could be bad LCD screen.

My hp9535 has no screen display, but I can see the backlight come on. Powers up normally. After purchasing some memory cards and switched them, which didn’t solve the problem, I chatted online with an HP tech. I purchased my notebook in June of 2007. He told me he could set up a service which would cost a minimum of $298. I asked what my warranty was and it had expired. I’ve had my HP desktop for 6 years now and my Gateway 700MHZ for about 9 and I haven’t had any major problems such as this. HP never said they would repair it for free at all. Seems like other people are having the same issue regarding the specific problem. Any good websites for buying LCD cable connectors or motherboards? Is this a difficult project to undertake. Any help would be appreciated…..

Yesterday my fried brought me a Compaq Presario v6000 laptop (out of warranty) complaining that her wireless connection just stopped working. I did some troubleshooting and here’s what I found:
1. The wireless LED was on all the time (yellow light), doesn’t matter if the switch was turned on or off.
2. The wireless card didn’t appear in the device manager.
3. When I installed a couple of other wireless cards they weren’t detected by the laptop.
After my troubleshooting she called to HP and they sent her a box. Her laptop will be repaired at no charge.

I have a dv6000 HP purchased in Dec 06. It has the same problem with the screen. Totally dead now. Computer powers up. If screen is dead how do you hook up to external monitor. IF if dosent work after hooking it up how do you fix. HP said my computer is out of warrenty and I do not have the purchase receipt. It was a gift.

Kathleen: I would recommend getting a USB driven wireless device. I had some success by opening the memory access compartment and disconnecting and then reconnecting the wires to the antenna, which costs nothing and is simple. If it doesn’t work, get on eBay and drop $10 on a USB driven wireless access device.

my screen in my dv6000 is blinking, i have to move it back and forth, set it at certain angle to have it working properly. if it goes black i can still see the dark shapes of what is being displayed on the www page. i assume its screen backlight gone bad. i have had this problem from day one but today my warranty is over. how to fix the problem since i dont have the warranty anymore?

My Hp pavillion dv2000, wireless internet stopped working 3 days ago. Everything was fine and working. I thought it was our phone company’s wireless modem, so they came out and try to fix it. They told me it’s our laptop problem. Our warranty ran out about 3 years ago. Could HP fix this problem? I’m no expert in taking apart my laptop. Please help.
