You are eligible for a free repair if you experience one or more problems with some HP laptops even after the original factory warranty is over. The following laptops are included in the Limited Warranty Service Enhancement program.
UPDATE: This program through HP is over but… it looks like NVIDIA recognized that some laptops could be affected by graphics chip failure.
HP Pavilion dv2000, dv6000, dv9000.
Compaq Presario v3000, v6000.
HP Pavilion dv6000, dv9000 and v6000 failure symptoms:
1. The wireless card is not working properly.
2. Your laptop has no video on both internal LCD screen and external monitor.
3. The laptop has no power and LEDs will not turn on.
4. The laptop will not start.
5. The battery charge LED doesn’t turn on even when the power adapter is connected.
6. The laptop gives you a beep error message on start up.
7. The laptop works fine with an external monitor but there is no image or the internal LCD screen.
Pavilion dv2000 and Presario v3000 failure symptoms:
1. There is a problem with the wireless card.
2. There is no video on the laptop LCD screen on external monitor.
For more information please read HP Limited Warranty Service Enhancement program here. I removed the link because HP program is over. Now you can check if your model was affected by bad video chip on this NVIDIA GPU Litigation site.

Hey Laptop Tech,
I came across this thread of yours whilst scrolling aimlessly looking for an answer to the BSOD situation Ive had since end feb 2012. I wasnt even aware of there being a court case in relation to this situation mainly due to it only happening recently and the case settling early last year.
It does surprise me tho that it still exists and continuing big time going by the complaints and forum blogs Ive seen on Microsoft, HP & nVidia home sites as well as Google & other various blog/forum sites. Even more surprising is the lack of assistance and knowledge from any of the computer companies with re repair . Its ridiculous that you have to put up with ill informed customer service operators who treat you like a fool with their remove battery options.
Any way my question finally is do you know if they are still accepting repairs? My laptop is acknowledged as a Nth American model (which is a nightmare for seeking updates or support as the Aust site says I have to go to US site and when Im there the US site says I have to go to the Aust site, & round n round I go). I wonder if Aust will try & make me send it back & US vice versa. I shouldnt have to go thru all this for an almost $2k laptop (supposedly worth $5K).
Thanks for your assistance
jeff

@ hari,
Call HP. Most likely you’ll be able to buy an extended warranty directly from them if your laptop is still covered by the original 1 year warranty.

@ Benny,
Try this. Enter the BIOS and load default settings. Safe and reboot.
Also, I would run test on the hard drive. Maybe the hard drive is failing.

Is there another possibility to repair Presario v6000 for four images instead of a replacement main board

Benny Beniitez,
Is your cooling fan spinning at all? Maybe it’s failing when you start the laptop for the first time but somehow starts working when you restart the laptop a few times.
Take a closer look at the fan.

Hello I have a compaq presario v6000 with a boot problem, it boots up and turns off in 20 seconds, but when you turn it off manually for about 2 times it boots up normally. I arleady change the cpu, new thermal paste, I clean the fan etc. I still cant find what it is?

Sherry,
1. Backup personal data. http://www.insidemylaptop.com/recover-files-from-broken-laptop/
2. Try reinstalling OS from the recovery disc or recovery partition (I believe press F11 on startup).
3. If the problem still there even after reinstalling OS, this is hardware failure. Send your laptop to HP/Compaq for repair. It should be covered by the warranty.
