It's funny that the dust buildup didn't occur to me as the cause, it doesn't take much of a dust bunny to clog the grill, and all gear are dust bunny magnets. I didn't have a can of compressed air but I DID have a dyson vacuum (with very strong suction) I'm sure that there is static electricity dangers by doing this approach, so beware! Without disassembling the laptop I 1) placed it perfectly flat against the fan cover and heard the fan spin up ...incredibly fast, this centrifugal motion I'm sure tossed off anything on the blades and probably got some on the walls as well. 2) I coverd part of the vacuum intake up and placed it over the side grill till I heard some resistance. Restarted, so far no issues. Prior it was on strong and off again ever few seconds. VERY annoying. Great site! Thanks for the headsup.
