This guide explains how to remove the keyboard and clean the cooling fan inside a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo M7440 laptop. It’s possible that this guide will work for some other Amilo laptops with the same case.
If your laptop shuts off on its own without any warning most likely it happens because of processor overheating. The processor overheat because of dust buildup between the fan and heatsink. If that’s the case, cleaning the cooling fan and heatsink will fix the problem.

In order to access the cooling module you’ll have to remove the keyboard. It’s not difficult, simply remove the plastic bezel above the keyboard and then unscrew the keyboard. The cooling module is located under the metal plate under the the keyboard.
You can clean the cooling module with compressed air without removing the cooling fan. Simply spray air inside the fan until there is no dust inside the heatsink.
Also, you can replace thermal compound between the heat sink and processor.

Thank you!
I have an Amilo M7440G which kept turning off every 10min and I was quite frustrated after running memory and HDD tests on it.
Opened the laptop, as instructed, cleaned the heatsink out and now managed to successfully install OS on it.

@ joseph,
Probably bad fan. Try replacing it with a new one.

Hello, my Fujisu Siemens Amilo notebook is shutting down a few seconds after trying to start it.
The fan is rotating realyl really fast from the start, even it the notebook is completly cold, and often I do not eaven mange to start windows before the computer shuts down. Is this a hardware problem at all? Thanks for your help.

@ Lena,
This sounds like a hardware problem to me. Do you know if the laptop was disassembled before?
Maybe the heatsink not making good contact with the CPU and it shuts down because of overheating. That’s why the cooling fan runs very fast on startup. This is just a guess.
