In this guide I explain how to remove LCD screen from a Dell Inspiron 1318 laptop.

Also, I’ll show how to separate the inverter board from the screen.

Dell Inspiron 1318 might have two different screen types installed:

1. CCFL backlit LCD screen – screen with backlight lamp inside. This screen requires the inverter board. That’s the one I’ll be taking apart in the following guide.
2. LED backlit LCD screen. This screen doesn’t require the inverter board.

I’ll explain how to find the correct replacement LCD screen at the end of the guide.

STEP 1.

Turn off the laptop and remove the battery.

STEP 2.

Start separating the screen bezel from the back cover on the top of the display assembly.

Insert your fingers between the bezel and screen and wiggle the bezel.

There are hidden plastic latches securing the screen bezel. When you wiggle the bezel you’ll be able to disengage the latches.

STEP 3.

Continue separating the bezel on the top of the display assembly.

STEP 4.

After that move to the lower part of the bezel.

Carefully lift up the part of the bezel which covers the hinges.

STEP 5.

Remove the bezel from the laptop.

STEP 6.

Remove six screws securing the LCD screen assembly to the display back cover.

STEP 7.

Separate the screen from the back cover and place it face down on the keyboard.

STEP 8.

Now you can access the back of the screen and LCD harness (video cable).

One part of the harness is connected to the inverter board. The second and is connected to the LCD screen.

If your Dell Inspiron 1318 laptop has a LED-backlit LCD screen there will be NO inverter board.

When you have LED LCD the video cable will have only one connector plugged into the screen.

STEP 9.

Unplug connector from the inverter board.

STEP 10.

Remove sticky tape securing the video cable connector.

Disconnect cable from the LCD screen.

STEP 11.

Now you can remove the LCD screen assembly from the laptop.

STEP 12.

Like in many other Dell laptops, the screen inverter is mounted on the bottom side of the screen.

In the following three steps I’ll show how to separate the inverter board from the screen.

STEP 13.

Disconnect one cable from the left side of the inverter board.

STEP 14.

Remove one screw securing the inverter board to the mounting bracket.

STEP 15.

Remove the inverter board from the bracket.

NOTE: most likely the inverter board will be glued to the mounting bracket with double sticky tape.

You’ll have to insert something between the inverter and bracket and separate it.

You can find a new replacement screen using the Dell part number from the back of the original screen.

You can see it on the following picture. The part number is six digits and letters after CN-.

In my Dell Inspiron 1318 laptop the screen has the following part number: 0C117J.

You can skip “0″ while searching for a new screen. Just search for C117J.

If your screen has a different part number just use the search box.

Again, make sure to buy the correct screen type: CCFL backlit LCD screen or LED backlit LCD screen.

If you are buying a CCFL LCD screen, I would advice to buy one with the inverter board attached. In this case there will be no compatibility issues between the inverter and screen.

In this guide I show how to replace LCD screen on HP Pavilion dv4 laptop.

HP Pavilion dv4 laptop comes with two different types of screens installed:
1. LCD screen with CCFL backlight (requires screen inverter).
2. LCD screen with LED backlight.

In this guide I’ll be replacing LCD with CCFL backlihgt.

Also you can use this guide for replacing LED LCDs but they don’t have inverter boards so you’ll have to skip steps 8 and 9.

Before you start make sure the laptop is turned off.

STEP 1.

Remove the laptop battery.

STEP 2.

Remove the screw cover located in the lower left corner of the display.

Remove one screw securing the screen bezel on the left side.

STEP 3.

Remove the screw cover located in the lower right corner of the display.

Remove one screw securing the screen bezel on the right side.

STEP 4.

Separate the top side of the screen bezel from the display cover.

STEP 5.

Continue removing the screen bezel.

STEP 6.

When the top side of the bezel separated from the display cover, move to the lower part.

Lift up one side of the bezel with a small screwdriver.

Work slowly. There are hidden latches securing the bezel. Try not to break all of them.

STEP 7.

Remove the screen bezel.

STEP 8.

As I mentioned before, this HP Pavilion dv4 laptop has a CCFL LCD screen which requires an  inverter board.

The screen inverter mounted on the lower part of the display assembly.

STEP 9.

There are a few plastic tabs securing the inverter board.

Lift up the inverter board and disconnect cables on both sides of the inverter.

Remove the inverter.

STEP 10.

Remove two screws securing the LCD screen on the top.

STEP 11.

Loosen (do not removed) three screw securing the left hinge.

STEP 12.

Loosen (do not removed) three screw securing the right hinge.

STEP 13.

Now you should be able to separate the LCD screen from the display cover just enough to access screws on both sides of the LCD screen.

Remove four screws securing the LCD screen on the right side.

STEP 14.

Remove four more screws securing the LCD screen on the left side.

STEP 15.

Carefully separate the LCD screen from the back cover.

STEP 16.

The web camera module still attached to the LCD screen.

The web camera IS NOT a part of the screen but it’s attached to the screen by two sticky aluminum strips.

Disconnect the web camera cable on the left side.

STEP 17.

Separate the web camera module from the screen.

STEP 18.

Place the screen face down on the keyboard.

The back side of the LCD screen covered with aluminum foil shielding.

STEP 19.

Lift up the shielding so you can access the video cable.

The video cable plugged into the connector on the LCD screen.

STEP 20.

Remove sticky tape securing the connection and unplug the video cable from the LCD screen.

STEP 21.

Now you can remove the LCD screen.

Don’t forget that this laptop comes with two different screen types: CCFL backlit LCD screen and LED backlit LCD screen.

Make sure the find the correct type of screen for your laptop.

In this guide I explain how to remove the LCD screen and inverter board from a Dell Studio 1737 or Dell Studio 1735 laptop.

In order to take apart the display assembly it has to be removed from the laptop base first.

I explained how to remove the display assembly in my previous disassembly guide for Dell Studio 1737/1735 laptop (steps 1-17).

Let’s take it apart and remove the LCD screen and inverter board.

STEP 1.

There are no screws securing the screen bezel to the display cover but there are many plastic latches.

You can two of these latches on the following picture.

Start separating the screen bezel from the cover with your fingers. Wiggle the bezel until latches underneath are disengaged.

STEP 2.

Continue removing the bezel.

STEP 3.

The screen bezel has been removed.

STEP 4.

The screen inverter mounted on the lower part of the display panel.

The screen inverter works as a power supply for the backlight lamp inside the LCD screen. When inverter fails, the screen backlight goes off and the image become very dim.

If your laptop screen has become very dim, try replacing the inverter board first. If it doesn’t help, most likely you’ll have to replace the LCD screen because it has a bad backligh lamp inside.

STEP 5.

Disconnect cables from both sides of the inverter board. Simply unplug two white connectors.

Remove one screw securing the inverter board to the display cover.

STEP 6.

Now you can remove the inverter board and replace it with a new inverter if needed.

STEP 7.

Now you are ready for the LCD screen removal.

Remove six screws securing the screen and carefully separate it from the display cover.

Finally, unplug the video cable on the back of the screen.

Replace LCD screen with a new one if needed.

If you have to buy a new screen, it’s better to search by the screen model number which is printed on the back side of the screen. In this case you’ll fine a compatible LCD screen.

In this guide I show how to remove and replace LCD screen on a Sony Vaio VGN-NW series laptop.

I’m replacing LCD screen on a Sony Vaio VGN-NW235F laptop. It also says model PCG-7184L on the bottom.

Before you start, make sure the laptop is turned off and battery removed.

STEP 1.

There are four white screw covers on the screen bezel.

Remove all four covers. Remove four screws located under those covers.

The screw cover has a sticky bottom. You can remove it with a sharp object.

STEP 2.

Start separating screen bezel from the display cover.

You can use a guitar pick or old credit card to separate the bezel. Continue removing it with your fingers.

STEP 3.

After you separated bezel on the top of the display assembly, move to the bottom side.

Remove screen bezel from the laptop.

STEP 4.

Sony Vaio VGN-NW235F laptop has a regular CCFL backlight LCD screen with inverter board.

The inverter board mounted below the screen.

Carefully separate inverter board from the display cover and disconnect cables on both ends.

Remove the inverter board.

STEP 5.

Remove four screws securing display hinges.

STEP 6.

Separate LCD screen from the display cover and place it face down on the keyboard.

STEP 7.

Now you can access the LCD cable.

STEP 8.

Disconnect video cable from the connector on the screen.

STEP 9.

Now you can remove the LCD screen assembly from the laptop.

By the way, the web camera is not a part of the screen. It’s a separate module mounted on the top of the display cover.

STEP 10.

When you replace the LCD screen, you’ll have to remove both screen mounting brackets and transfer them to the new screen.

In order to remove the bracket, simply remove four screws and separate bracket from the screen.

You can search for a new replacement screen using the model number from the original screen.

My Sony Vaio VGN-NW235F laptop had the following 15.6″ LCD screen installed: B156XW01.

You can find new replacement LCD screen here. If you have a different screen installed, just search by the model number.

In the following guide I’ll be taking apart a Sony Vaio VPCF1 laptop. I’m doing that in order to remove and replace damaged LCD screen. In this guide I’ll show how to remove laptop keyboard, media button board, speakers and of course LCD screen.

The full laptop model name is Sony Vaio VPC-F11KFX/B.

Also, there is another model number listed on the bottom: Model PCG-F1114L.

It’s possible my guide will work for some other Sony Vaio laptops. If it works for you, please mention the laptop model number in comments after this post.

Before you start make sure the laptop is turned off and battery removed.

STEP 1.

Remove six (yellow) screws securing the media button board cover.

Remove two (red) screws securing laptop keyboard.

Remove two (green) screws securing display hinges.

STEP 2.

Carefully lift up the media button board cover with a sharp object and continue removing with your fingers.

STEP 3.

Media button board cover removed.

STEP 4.

Carefully lift up one corner of the keyboard.

STEP 5.

Slide the keyboard towards the LCD screen and at the same time lift it up.

STEP 6.

Place the keyboard upside down on the keyboard. Be careful, the keyboard still connected to the motherboard.

STEP 7.

Now you can access keyboard cable connectors. You’ll find two cables connected to the motherboard.

STEP 8.

There is no lock securing the cable on the small connector. Simply pull the cable from the connector.

STEP 9.

The big connector has to be unlocked first.

Move the brown locking piece about 2 millimeters away from the white base.

The locking piece MUST stay attached to the connector base.

STEP 10.

On the following picture the connector is shown in the unlocked position.

Now you can pull the cable from the connector.

STEP 11.

Remove the keyboard.

If you need a new keyboard for your Sony Vaio VPC series laptop, you can find it here.

STEP 12.

Remove three screws securing the media button board.

Disconnect the media button board cable from the motherboard.

STEP 13.

In order to unlock the connector, you’ll have to lift up the right side of the locking tab so it opens up at a 90 degree angle.

STEP 14.

On the following picture the connect is shown in the unlocked position. Now you can pull the cable from the connector.

STEP 15.

When you remove the media button board you’ll have to disconnect one more cable.

STEP 16.

Remove three screws securing laptop speakers.

It’s not necessary to remove the speakers completely. Just turn them upside down so you can get access to the hinges.

STEP 17.

Disconnect display cables from the motherboard.

Disconnect wireless card antenna cables from the wireless card.

In order to disconnect the cable, grab the gold connector with you fingers and pull it up.

STEP 18.

Remove four screws securing display hinges to the laptop base.

STEP 19.

Now you can separate laptop display assembly from the base.

REMOVING AND REPLACING LCD SCREEN.

STEP 20.

There are four screw covers on the screen bezel.

You’ll have to remove all four covers and after that remove all four screws found under those covers.

You can remove screw covers with a sharp object.

STEP 21.

Start separating screen bezel from the display cover.

STEP 22.

Continue separating the screen bezel.

STEP 23.

The screen bezel removed from the display assembly.

STEP 24.

Remove four screws securing LCD screen brackets to the display hinges.

Disconnect LCD backlight cable from the right side of the inverter board.

STEP 25.

Place the LCD screen face down on the table and carefully lift up the display cover.

Now you can access the video cable.

STEP 26.

Disconnect the video cable connector from the LCD screen.

STEP 27.

Remove LCD screen.

STEP 28.

Finally, remove four screws securing the mounting bracket to the LCD screen.

Remove the second bracket on the other side of the screen.

Transfer both mounting brackets to the new screen.

You can search for a new replacement LCD screen using model number printed on the label.

In my Sony Vaio VPCF1 laptop I had the following screen installed: LP164WD1 (TL)(A1).

I found a new screen available here for about $100.

In this guide I explain how to remove and replace LCD screen with inverter board in a Compaq Presario v2000 laptop. Also, you can use this guide for removing and replacing the keyboard.

Most likely this guide will work for some other Compaq Presario models. If it works for you please mention the model number in comments after this post.

In order to take apart the display panel and access LCD screen, it’s necessary to separate the display panel assembly from the laptop base.

Before you start, make sure the laptop turned off and battery removed.

STEP 1.

Remove two screws securing the memory and wireless card covers. Remove both covers.

STEP 2.

Remove two screws securing the keyboard cover in the battery compartment.

For the purpose of my guide it’s not necessary remove memory modules and wireless card, but it’s necessary to disconnect antenna cables from the wireless card.

STEP 3.

Disconnect both antenna cables from the wireless card.

STEP 4.

Using a piece of soft plastic (I’m using a guitar pick) lift up the right side of the keyboard cover.

Continue removing keyboard cover with your fingers.

STEP 5.

The keyboard cover has been removed.

STEP 6.

Remove four screws securing the keyboard.

STEP 7.

Carefully lift up the keyboard.

The keyboard connected to the motherboard.

STEP 8.

For the purpose of my guide it’s not necessary to disconnect the keyboard cable.

Simply turn the keyboard upside down and place it on the palmrest.

Here you can find a new keyboard for Compaq Presario v2000 laptop.

STEP 9.

Carefully pull the wireless card antenna cable though the opening in the top cover.

STEP 10.

Unplug the video cable connector from the motherboard.

STEP 11.

Remove four screws securing display hinges to the laptop base.

STEP 12.

Carefully separate display panel from the laptop base.

TAKING APART DISPLAY PANEL AND REMOVING LCD SCREEN WITH INVERTER.

STEP 13.

There are six screw covers on the screen bezel.

Remove screw covers with a sharp object and remove all six screws found under those covers.

STEP 14.

Start separating the screen bezel from the display cover with your fingers.

A piece of soft plastic (guitar pick in my case) will help you to separate the bezel.

STEP 15.

Continue separating screen bezel on the top of the display assembly.

STEP 16.

Now move to the bottom part of the display.

STEP 17.

Screen bezel has been removed.

STEP 18.

The inverter board mounted below the LCD screen.

By the way, the inverter board works as a power supply for the backlight lamp inside the LCD screen.

If the laptop screen suddenly went very dark or backlight started flickering, most likely this is inverter board failure. Try replacing the inverter board first.

If replacing the inverter board didn’t help, probably this is failed backlight lamp inside the screen.

Remove one screw securing the inverter board.

Unplug cables from both sides of the inverter.

STEP 19.

Now you can remove the inverter board and replace it with a new one if needed.

STEP 20.

Remove four screws securing display hinge covers.

STEP 21.

Remove both display hinge covers.

STEP 22.

Remove two screws securing display hinges to the back cover.

STEP 23.

Carefully remove the LCD screen assembly.

STEP 24.

On the back side of the screen you can access the video cable.

Disconnect the video cable and transfer it to the new LCD screen.

STEP 25.

Each display hinge securing to the LCD screen with two screws.

Remove screws and remove both hinges. Transfer them to the new LCD screen.

Compaq Presario v2000 hinges.

You can find a new LCD screen for your Compaq Presario v2000 laptop here.

Search for a new screen by the model number printed on the back of your screen. In my case the LCD screen model number: B140EW01.

In this guide I show how to remove and replace LCD screen in an Acer Aspire 5520 laptop.

Also, you can use this guide for removing and replacing the inverter board.

By the way, in my previous post I explain how to remove laptop hard drive, memory, cooling fan and keyboard.

Before you start, make sure the laptop is turned off and battery removed.

STEP 1.

On the screen bezel there are four rubber screw covers.

Under those covers you’ll find four screws securing the screen bezel to the cover.

You can remove screw covers with a sharp object.

All covers has sticky bottom. You can glue them somewhere on the bezel so they don’t get lost during laptop disassembly.

STEP 2.

Start separating the screen bezel from the display cover.

I’m using a guitar pick as a case cracker.

STEP 3.

Continue separating the bezel.

STEP 4.

Carefully lift up the bezel and separate it from the hinge.

STEP 5.

The screen bezel has been removed.

STEP 6.

The inverter board mounted below the LCD screen.

You can remove the inverter board after you remove the screen.

Remove four screws securing the LCD screen assembly on the bottom.

STEP 7.

Disconnect cable from the web camera module located on the top of the display assembly.

STEP 8.

Now you can separate LCD screen assembly from the display cover and place it face down on the keyboard.

On the back side of the scree you’ll find the video cable connected to the screen.

STEP 9.

Unplug the video cable connector from the screen.

STEP 10.

Disconnect the screen backlight cable from the right side of the inverter board.

If you are replacing the inverter, simply disconnect one more cable from the other side of the inverter and remove it from the laptop.

You can search for a new Acer Aspire 5520 inverter here.

STEP 11.

After the LCD screen disconnected from the video cable and inverter board, you can start removing it from the laptop.

Remove four screws securing the LCD screen to the mounting bracket on the right side.

STEP 12.

Remove four more screws on the left side.

STEP 13.

Now you can remove the LCD screen and replace it with a new one.

The original screen in my Acer Aspire 5520 laptop was made by Chi Mei Optoelectronics and had the following model number: N154l2-L05.

Most likely you can find a few compatible LCD screen available on the market.

In the following guide I explain how to remove the LCD screen and inverter board from an Acer TravelMate 8100 laptop.

I’m taking it apart because the screen backlight went off. The laptop still turns on but the image on the screen is very dim.

From my experience I know that most likely it’s either bad inverter or failed backlight lamp inside the screen.

In the following guide I’ll show how to remove and access both parts and also show some basic troubleshooting technique.

Before you start, make sure the laptop is turned off and battery removed.

STEP 1.

There are four screw covers on the screen bezel.

You can remove these covers with a sharp object. Each cover has sticky bottom. You can glue all covers somewhere on the screen bezel so they don’t get lost.

After that remove all four screws found under those covers.

STEP 2.

Start separating the screen bezel from the display cover.

STEP 3.

Continue removing the bezel.

STEP 4.

The screen bezel has been removed.

STEP 5.

The screen inverter located below the screen.

STEP 6.

There are two cables connected to the inverter board.

The left side connected to the video cable.

The right right side connected to the screen backlight lamp (which is mounted inside the screen).

TROUBLESHOOTING BACKLIGHT PROBLEM.

As I said at the beginning of this guide, if your screen loses backlight, most likely it’s related to the inverter board or backlight lamp failure.

Which one is causing the problem? You cannot tell without testing the laptop with another known good inverter or backlight lamp. Both have identical failure symptom – the screen light turns off and the image becomes so dark that it’s almost invisible.

I didn’t have a spare inverter board but I had another backlight lamp (removed from a cracked screen). Any backlight lamp should work fine for this test.

So, I disconnected the cable from the right side of the inverter board and plugged my test backlight instead.

After I turned on the laptop, my test backlight lighted up. It means, my inverter board works fine but the backlight lamp inside the screen is bad.

When backlight lamp fails, you’ll have to replace the entire LCD screen.

If you don’t have a spare backlight lamp and basically have to guess, try replacing the inverter board first.

A new inverter for Acer TravelMate 8100 is not very expensive.

STEP 7.

In order to remove the screen, you’ll have to do the following:

1. Remove four screws on the front of the screen (red circles).
2. Remove four screws on left and right sides of the screen (yellow arrows).
3. Carefully place the LCD screen face down on the keyboard and unplug the video cable connector on the back of the screen.

Now you should be able to remove the screen and replace it with a new one.

I’m taking apart a LG XNote S210 laptop but I think this guide will fit many other models in the XNote line.

Make sure the laptop is turned off and the battery removed.

STEP 1.

You’ll find four screw covers on the LCD screen bezel.

There are two black covers in the top left and right corners and two silver covers in the bottom left and right corners.

You can remove all covers with a sharp object.

On the following picture I’m removing one of the top covers.

On the next picture I’m removing one of the bottom covers.

You can glue screw covers somewhere on the bezel so they don’t get lost.

When all covers removed, remove four screws securing the screen bezel.

STEP 2.

Insert your fingers between the bezel and LCD screen and start separating the bezel.

STEP 3.

Continue removing the bezel.

STEP 4.

The screen bezel has been removed.

STEP 5.

Now you can access the screen inverter board located below the screen.

The inverter board works as a power supply for the backlight lamp inside the LCD screen.

If your LCD screen suddenly has become very dark but you still can see a very faint image, most likely the problem is related to the inverter board.

There are two cables connected to the inverter board.

On the left side the inverter board connected to the video cable.

On the right side the inverter board connected to the screen backlight lamp.

STEP 6.

Separate inverter board from the display cover and disconnect the left cable (LCD backlight lamp).

STEP 7.

There are four screws securing the LCD screen to the hinge brackets. Two screws on the left side and two more on the right.

Remove screws from both sides of the screen.

STEP 8.

Disconnect the webcam cable.

STEP 9.

Now you should be able to separate the LCD screen assembly from the display cover.

Place LCD screen face down on the keyboard.

STEP 10.

Remove sticky tape securing the video cable to the LCD screen.

STEP 11.

Disconnect video cable from the LCD screen.

STEP 12.

Now you can remove and replace the LCD screen.

In my laptop the LCD screen has the following model number: LTD121EXVV.

In this guide I explain how to remove LCD screen from a HP Pavilion dv5 laptop.

In order to remove the screen, you’ll have to separate the display panel from the laptop base.

To remove the display panel, follow steps 1-21 in this HP Pavilion dv5 disassembly guide.

OK, let’s assume the display panel remove and now it’s time to take it apart.

STEP 1.

You’ll find two screw covers on the bottom part of the display assembly.

Remove both screw covers with a sharp object.

After that remove two screws.

STEP 2.

Start separating the screen bezel with your fingers.There are a few hidden plastic latches securing the bezel to the screen cover.

Insert fingers between the bezel and screen and pry the bezel.

STEP 3.

Continue removing the screen bezel.

STEP 4.

The screen bezel has been removed.

STEP 5.

Disconnect the screen backlight cable from the right side of the inverter board.

The inverter screen mounted below the screen.

Remove four screws securing the LCD screen assembly to the back cover.

STEP 6.

Carefully separate the LCD screen from the cover and place it face down on the table.

Now you can disconnect the video cable from the connector on the back side of the screen (yellow arrow).

Finally, remove two screws from each side of the screen (green arrows).

These screws securing the LCD screen to the hinge mounting brackets.

Now you can replace the LCD screen with a new one if needed.
