<p>In this guide I explain how to remove and replace the LCD screen in a Dell Latitude D620 laptop.</p>
<p>The LCD screen removal steps will be very similar for many other Dell laptop. If this guide works for your laptop, please mention the model number in comments after the post.</p>

<p><strong>STEP 1. </strong></p>
<p>There are six screw seals on the LCD screen bezel. Remove all six seals and screws found under them.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove screw covers from bezel" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/Dell-Latitude-D620-LCD/remove-replace-lcd-screen-01.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>You can remove the screw seal with a sharp object or small flat head screwdriver. The seal bottom is sticky. Glue all screw seals somewhere on the screen bezel so they don&#8217;t get lost.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove screws from bezel" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/Dell-Latitude-D620-LCD/remove-replace-lcd-screen-02.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>

<p><strong>STEP 4.</strong></p>
<p>Remove six screws securing the LCD screen mounting brackets to the display cover.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove screws securing LCD screen" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/Dell-Latitude-D620-LCD/remove-replace-lcd-screen-05.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>

<p><strong>STEP 6.</strong></p>
<p>Now you can access the back side of the LCD screen and video cable.</p>
<p>The video cable has two connectors. One of them is connected to the inverter board and another one to the LCD screen.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Access video cable" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/Dell-Latitude-D620-LCD/remove-replace-lcd-screen-07.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>

<p><strong>STEP 10.</strong></p>
<p>If you are replacing the LCD screen, you&#8217;ll have to transfer both mounting brackets to the new screen. Each bracket is secured by a few screws.</p>
<p>In Dell laptops the inverter board is attached to the bottom of the LCD screen.</p>

<p><strong>STEP 1.</strong></p>
<p>Insert a small flat head screwdriver under the hinge cover and lift it up. The hinge cover is a part of the keyboard cover.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Lift up keyboard cover" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/Acer-Extensa-4620z/replace-broken-display-hinge-02.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 2.</strong></p>
<p>Remove the keyboard cover.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove keyboard cover" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/Acer-Extensa-4620z/replace-broken-display-hinge-03.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>When the keyboard/hinge cover is removed you can see that the right display hinge is broken. The bottom part of the broken hinge is still connected to the base assembly and the top part is mounted to the display.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Right display hinge broken" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/Acer-Extensa-4620z/replace-broken-display-hinge-04.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 3.</strong></p>
<p>Remove screws securing display hinges to the bottom of the laptop. If you are replacing only one hinge, remove only one screw.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove screws securing display hinges" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/Acer-Extensa-4620z/replace-broken-display-hinge-05.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 4.</strong></p>
<p>There are six screws securing the screen bezel. All six screws are hidden under rubber covers.</p>

<p><strong>STEP 6. </strong></p>
<p>Continue separating the screen bezel and finally remove it from the laptop.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove screen bezel" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/Acer-Extensa-4620z/replace-broken-display-hinge-09.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 7.</strong></p>
<p>While removing the screen bezel, I dislocated the display latch assembly. If you did so, put it back in place.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Fix dislocated display latches" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/Acer-Extensa-4620z/replace-broken-display-hinge-10.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>

<p>In the following guide I explain how to remove and replace damaged LCD screen in HP G50/G60/G70 notebooks. I&#8217;m installing a new LCD screen into a HP G50 notebook but all disassembly steps should be almost the same or at least very similar for HP G60 and G70.</p>
<p>By the way, HP G50/G60/G70 notebooks also known as Compaq Presario CQ50, Presario CQ60 and Presario CQ70.</p>
<p>In most notebooks you can replace the LCD screen without separating the display panel from the base but not in HP G50/G60/G70. In order to replace LCD screen in these models we&#8217;ll have to remove the keyboard, keyboard cover and display panel. Let&#8217;s start replacing the screen.</p>
<p>Need spare parts for your HP laptop? <a rel="nofollow" href="http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?icep_ff3=1&amp;pub=5574673312&amp;toolid=10001&amp;campid=5335918710&amp;customid=HP+G50%2FG60%2FG70+screens&amp;ipn=psmain&amp;icep_vectorid=229466&amp;kwid=902099&amp;mtid=824&amp;kw=lg" target="_blank">Search by the part name or number here</a>. You can find the HP spare part number in the service manual. I linked to service manuals at the end of this guide.</p>

google_ad_height = 280;
// --></script><br />
<script src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js" type="text/javascript"></script></p>
<p><strong>STEP 1. </strong></p>
<p>Turn off the laptop and remove the battery.<br />
Remove one screw securing the Wi-Fi cover and remove the cover.<br />
It is not necessary to remove the memory and hard drive covers. I marked them just for your convenience.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove battery and wi-fi cover" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-G50-G60-G70/remove-replace-lcd-screen-02.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 2.</strong></p>
<p>Remove three (yellow) screws securing the keyboard.<br />
Remove four (red) screws securing the keyboard cover.</p>
<p>If you are using this guide for replacing the keyboard, you have to remove only three (yellow) screws.</p>
<p>In G50 and G60 the keyboard screws are located in the battery compartment.<br />
In G70 notebooks there are only two screws securing the keyboard and they are located on the bottom (there is a small keyboard stamped close to each screw).</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove screws securing keyboard and cover" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-G50-G60-G70/remove-replace-lcd-screen-03.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 3.</strong></p>
<p>Carefully lift up the keyboard from the base.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Lift up keyboard" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-G50-G60-G70/remove-replace-lcd-screen-04.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 4.</strong></p>
<p>Place the keyboard so you can access the cable connector underneath.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Access keyboard cable" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-G50-G60-G70/remove-replace-lcd-screen-05.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>You have to unlock the connector and release the cable before removing the keyboard.<br />
Move the white clip about 2-3 millimeters towards the display panel and release the cable. Now you can remove the keyboard.</p>
<p>WARNING! The white clip must stay attached to the connector base. If you accidentally break the connector, you&#8217;ll have to replace the motherboard. If you work slowly, everything should be fine.</p>
<p>On the picture below the keyboard connector is shown in the unlocked state.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Unlock keyboard connector" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-G50-G60-G70/remove-replace-lcd-screen-06.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 5.</strong></p>
<p>Disconnect the switch board cable from the motherboard.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Disconnect switch board cable" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-G50-G60-G70/remove-replace-lcd-screen-07.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 6.</strong></p>
<p>Remove the keyboard cover.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove keyboard cover" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-G50-G60-G70/remove-replace-lcd-screen-08.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 7.</strong></p>
<p>Turn the laptop upside down and disconnect two antenna cables from the wireless card.<br />
Each antenna cable has a golden head. Grab the head with your fingers and lift it up.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Disconnect antenna cables from wireless card" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-G50-G60-G70/remove-replace-lcd-screen-09.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 8.</strong></p>
<p>Disconnect the video cable connector from the motherboard.<br />
Disconnect the webcam cable from the motherboard.<br />
Pull two Wi-Fi antenna cables through the opening.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Disconnect display panel" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-G50-G60-G70/remove-replace-lcd-screen-10.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 9.</strong></p>
<p>Remove four screws securing the display panel hinges.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove screws from hinges" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-G50-G60-G70/remove-replace-lcd-screen-11.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 10.</strong></p>
<p>Lift up and separate the display panel from the laptop base.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove display panel" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-G50-G60-G70/remove-replace-lcd-screen-12.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>In the following steps we will disassemble the display panel and remove the LCD screen.</p>
<p><strong>STEP 11.</strong></p>
<p>There are two screw seals located in the lower left and right corners.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove two screw covers" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-G50-G60-G70/remove-replace-lcd-screen-13.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>Remove these seals with a sharp object and remove screws found under the seals.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove screws from screen bezel" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-G50-G60-G70/remove-replace-lcd-screen-14.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 12.</strong></p>
<p>Start separating the screen bezel from the display cover.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Separate screen bezel from display cover" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-G50-G60-G70/remove-replace-lcd-screen-15.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>Continue separating the bezel.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Continue removing screen bezel" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-G50-G60-G70/remove-replace-lcd-screen-16.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>The screen bezel has been removed.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Screen bezel removed" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-G50-G60-G70/remove-replace-lcd-screen-17.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 13.</strong></p>
<p>The screen inverter board is mounted below the screen. The inverter is locked between plastic brackets.</p>
<p>You can remove and replace the inverter board without removing the LCD screen. Simply pull the inverter board from the cover and disconnect connectors on both ends.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Screen inverter" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-G50-G60-G70/remove-replace-lcd-screen-18.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 14.</strong></p>
<p>Remove two screws securing the right display hinge.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove screws from right hinge" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-G50-G60-G70/remove-replace-lcd-screen-19.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>Remove the right hinge.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove right hinge" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-G50-G60-G70/remove-replace-lcd-screen-20.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 15.</strong></p>
<p>Remove two screws securing the left display hinge.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove screws from left hinge" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-G50-G60-G70/remove-replace-lcd-screen-21.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>Remove the left hinge.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove left hinge" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-G50-G60-G70/remove-replace-lcd-screen-22.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 16.</strong></p>
<p>Remove the inverter board from the cover and disconnect one connector from the right side. By the way, this is the backlight lamp connector.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Disconnect screen from inverter board" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-G50-G60-G70/remove-replace-lcd-screen-23.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 17.</strong></p>
<p>Remove two screws securing the LCD screen on the top.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove two screws securing LCD screen" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-G50-G60-G70/remove-replace-lcd-screen-24.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 18.</strong></p>
<p>Now you can separate the LCD screen from the display cover and access the video cable.</p>
<p>My HP G50 notebook didn&#8217;t have the webcam installed and the webcam cable was taped to the display cover.<br />
If you have a HP G60/G70 notebook, most likely it came with the webcam. You&#8217;ll have to disconnect the cable from the webcam before disconnecting the video cable.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Separate LCD screen from the cover" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-G50-G60-G70/remove-replace-lcd-screen-25.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 19.</strong></p>
<p>Remove sticky tape securing the video cable connector and unplug cable from the LCD screen.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Disconnect video cable from LCD screen" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-G50-G60-G70/remove-replace-lcd-screen-26.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 20.</strong></p>
<p>Now you can remove the LCD screen from the cover.</p>
<p>If you are replacing the screen, you&#8217;ll have to transfer the left and right mounting brackets to the new screen.<br />
Remove three screws securing the bracket and remove the bracket. Do the same with the other side.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove mounting brackets" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-G50-G60-G70/remove-replace-lcd-screen-27.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>The LCD screen model number is located on the sticker. In my laptop I had a screen with the following model number: B154EW08 v.1</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Screen part number" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-G50-G60-G70/remove-replace-lcd-screen-28.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>The best way to find a new LCD screen for your laptop is either searching by the  LCD model number (shown in the picture above) or using the HP part number.</p>
<p>The HP part numbers for LCD screen and other parts can be found in service manuals and here they are.</p>

<p>Today I will be removing and replacing the LCD screen in an IBM ThinkPad T43p laptop. You can use same set of instructions for ThinkPad T43 and some other IBM (now Lenovo) laptops.</p>
<p><strong>Failure description:</strong> the laptop starts with a reddish screen (white color appear to be pink). After a minute or two the backlight goes completely off but you still can see a very faint image on the screen if you look very closely. When you restart the laptop, the screen lights up again but a minute later the light goes off.</p>
<p><strong>Solution:</strong> the laptop has a failing backlight lamp which is a part of the LCD screen. The whole screen has to be replaced.</p>
<p>You can try <a title="Replacing laptop backlight lamp" href="http://www.laptoprepair101.com/laptop/2007/12/09/replace-laptop-backlight-ccfl-lamp/" target="_blank">replacing just the backlight lamp</a> without replacing the screen, but it&#8217;s not easy and should be done only by an experienced technician.</p>

google_ad_height = 280;
// --></script><br />
<script src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js" type="text/javascript"></script></p>
<p>Let&#8217;s disassemble the display panel and remove the LCD screen.</p>
<p><strong>STEP 1.</strong></p>
<p>Carefully remove four screw seals from the bottom part of the display bezel.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove screw covers from bezel" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/IBM-ThinkPad-T43p-display/remove-lcd-screen-inverter-02.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>You can remove them with a sharp object.</p>
<p>Remove all four screws found under the seals.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove screws from bezel" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/IBM-ThinkPad-T43p-display/remove-lcd-screen-inverter-03.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 2.</strong></p>
<p>Remove three screws (found under seals) from the left side of the display panel.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove screw covers from right side" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/IBM-ThinkPad-T43p-display/remove-lcd-screen-inverter-04.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 3.<br />
</strong></p>
<p>Remove four screws (found under seals) from the right side of the display panel.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove screw covers from left side" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/IBM-ThinkPad-T43p-display/remove-lcd-screen-inverter-05.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 4.</strong></p>
<p>The display bezel is glued to the LCD screen with sticky tape. You can separate the bezel using a guitar pick (as I do) or another piece of plastic.<br />
Insert the guitar pick between the display bezel and screen and carefully move it along the side until the bezel is separated.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Separate display bezel from LCD screen" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/IBM-ThinkPad-T43p-display/remove-lcd-screen-inverter-06.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 5.</strong></p>
<p>Continue removing the display bezel with your fingers.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Start separating display bezel from cover" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/IBM-ThinkPad-T43p-display/remove-lcd-screen-inverter-07.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 6.</strong></p>
<p>The screen inverter is mounted under the bezel and can be replaced without removing the bezel completely. I&#8217;ll remove the display bezel because I have to replace the LCD screen.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Access inverter under display bezel" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/IBM-ThinkPad-T43p-display/remove-lcd-screen-inverter-08.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 7.</strong></p>
<p>The display bezel has been removed.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove display bezel" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/IBM-ThinkPad-T43p-display/remove-lcd-screen-inverter-09.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 8.</strong></p>
<p>In order to confirm the backlight lamp failure I did the following experiment.<br />
I unpluged the LCD screen from the right side of the inveter board and pluged in an known good backlight lamp. After that I turned on the laptop and tested it with my backlight lamp for about 10 minutes. My backlight lamp didn&#8217;t turn off and worked fine all time. That means the backlight lamp inside the screen is bad.</p>
<p>If your laptop doesn&#8217;t work with a known good backlight lamp, most likely you have a problem with the inverter board.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Test screen with another backlight" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/IBM-ThinkPad-T43p-display/remove-lcd-screen-inverter-10.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 9.</strong></p>
<p>Unplug the inverter board from the video cable.<br />
Remove the inverter board.</p>
<p>Do you need a new inverter board? Find a <a rel="nofollow" href="http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?ff3=4&amp;pub=5574673312&amp;toolid=10001&amp;campid=5335918710&amp;customid=ThinkPad+T43p+inverter&amp;mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fshop.ebay.com%2Fi.html%3F_nkw%3Dthinkpad%2BT43p%2Binverter%26_sacat%3D0%26_trksid%3Dp3286.m270.l1313%26_odkw%3Dthinkpad%2BT43p%2Bscreen%26_osacat%3D0" target="_blank">new inverter here</a>.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove inverter board" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/IBM-ThinkPad-T43p-display/remove-lcd-screen-inverter-11.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 10.</strong></p>
<p>Carefully separate the LCD screen from the display cover. Do not forget to release the cable with night lamp. Simply pull the cable from the display cover.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Release screen lamp" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/IBM-ThinkPad-T43p-display/remove-lcd-screen-inverter-12.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 11.</strong></p>
<p>Now you can access the back side of the LCD screen and unplug the screen cable.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Access LCD screen cable" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/IBM-ThinkPad-T43p-display/remove-lcd-screen-inverter-13.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>Remove sticky tape securing the connection and pull the cable connector from the LCD screen.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Unplug cable from LCD screen" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/IBM-ThinkPad-T43p-display/remove-lcd-screen-inverter-14.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 12.</strong></p>
<p>Remove the LCD screen from the laptop.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove LCD screen from laptop" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/IBM-ThinkPad-T43p-display/remove-lcd-screen-inverter-17.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>The LCD screen has been removed.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="LCD screen removed" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/IBM-ThinkPad-T43p-display/remove-lcd-screen-inverter-15.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>Be careful with this piece of plastic. Try not to remove it from the display because it will take some time to figure out how to connect it back together.<br />
I believe this piece of plastic is designed to prevent the screen cable from breaking when you close the display.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Be careful with this plastic piece" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/IBM-ThinkPad-T43p-display/remove-lcd-screen-inverter-16.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 13.</strong></p>
<p>Remove two screws securing the display mounting brackets.<br />
Remove the bracket and move it to a new LCD screen.<br />
Do the same with the bracket on the other side of the screen.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove LCD screen brackets" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/IBM-ThinkPad-T43p-display/remove-lcd-screen-inverter-18.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>You can find a new LCD screen using two different part numbers from the back side of the defective screen:<br />
1. The model number of the LCD screen. In my laptop it is N150U3-L01<br />
2. FRU part number. In my laptop it is 92P6753.</p>
<p>Looking for a new screen for your IBM ThinkPad T43/T43p laptop? You can find a <a rel="nofollow" href="http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?ff3=4&amp;pub=5574673312&amp;toolid=10001&amp;campid=5335918710&amp;customid=ThinkPad+T43p+screen&amp;mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fshop.ebay.com%2Fi.html%3F_nkw%3Dthinkpad%2BT43p%2Bscreen%2B%26_cqr%3Dtrue%26_nkwusc%3DThnikPad%2BT43p%2Bscreen%26_rdc%3D1" target="_blank">brand new screen here</a>.</p>

<p>In this post I explain how to remove screen inverter and replace LCD screen in a Compaq Presario m2000 laptop. It&#8217;s way easier to disassemble the laptop display panel when the display panel is separated from the laptop. You&#8217;ll find instructions for removing the display panel in my <a title="Compaq Presario m2000 disassembly" href="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/take-apart-compaq-presario-m2000-notebook/" target="_self">previous guide for Compaq Presario m2000 laptops</a>, just follow steps 1,2,3,9,10. This guide might work for some other Compaq Presario laptops. If it works for you, please mention the laptop model in the comments below.</p>
<p>It is possible to remove the inverter and LCD screen while the display is still attached to the laptop but it will be harder to remove the screen bezel.</p>
<p>If the backlight in your laptop stopped working and the image on the screen is so dim that you can barely see it under bright light, most likely you have a failed inverter board. There is a good chance to fix the problem if you replace the inverter board.<br />
If you replace the inverter board but the image is still dim, most likely there is a problem with the backlight lamp inside the LCD screen. If that&#8217;s the case, try replacing the LCD screen.</p>
<p><span id="more-477"></span></p>
<p><script type="text/javascript"><!--
google_ad_client = "pub-5093339941473059";
/* IML-InPost-336x280, created 5/14/09 */

google_ad_height = 280;
// --></script></p>
<p><script src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js" type="text/javascript"></script></p>
<p>Before you start make sure the laptop is turned off and the battery is removed.</p>
<p><strong>STEP 1.</strong></p>
<p>There are six screws securing the screen bezel to the display cover. These screws are hidden under six rubber seals. You&#8217;ll have to remove these seals first.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Display panel removed" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/Compaq-Presario-m2000-screen/remove-inverter-lcd-screen-02.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>Remove screw seals with a sharp object. These seals have a sticky bottom. You can glue them somewhere on the bezel so they don&#8217;t get lost.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove screw cover" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/Compaq-Presario-m2000-screen/remove-inverter-lcd-screen-03.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 2.</strong></p>
<p>Insert your fingers between the LCD screen and bezel and start separating bezel from the cover.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Separate LCD bezel from cover" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/Compaq-Presario-m2000-screen/remove-inverter-lcd-screen-04.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>Continue separating the screen bezel.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Continue removing LCD bezel" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/Compaq-Presario-m2000-screen/remove-inverter-lcd-screen-05.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>It might take some time to release the bezel from hinge covers. It will be even harder if the display is still attached to the laptop.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove LCD bezel from hinges" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/Compaq-Presario-m2000-screen/remove-inverter-lcd-screen-06.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>Finally, the screen bezel has been removed.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Display bezel removed" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/Compaq-Presario-m2000-screen/remove-inverter-lcd-screen-07.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 3.</strong></p>
<p>The screen inverter is mounted below the LCD screen. There are no screws securing the inverter.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="LCD screen inverter mounted" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/Compaq-Presario-m2000-screen/remove-inverter-lcd-screen-08.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>Remove the ivnerter board from the display assembly and disconnect cables on both ends of the inverter.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Disconnect cables from inverter" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/Compaq-Presario-m2000-screen/remove-inverter-lcd-screen-09.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>Now you can replace the inverter board with a new one if needed.</p>
<p>Need a new inverter board? <a rel="nofollow" href="http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?ff3=4&amp;pub=5574673312&amp;toolid=10001&amp;campid=5335918710&amp;customid=Compaq+m2000+inverter&amp;mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fshop.ebay.com%2Fi.html%3F_nkw%3DCompaq%2Bm2000%2Binverter%26_sacat%3D0%26_trksid%3Dp3286.m270.l1313%26_odkw%3DCompaq%2Bm2000%2BLCD%2Bscreen%26_osacat%3D0" target="_blank">Find it here</a>.</p>

<p><strong>STEP 4.</strong></p>
<p>Let&#8217;s proceed to the LCD screen removal.</p>
<p>There are two screws securing the LCD screen to the mounting brackets. Remove two screws from each side.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove screws securing LCD screen" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/Compaq-Presario-m2000-screen/remove-inverter-lcd-screen-11.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>Separate the LCD screen from the display cover.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Separate LCD screen from display cover" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/Compaq-Presario-m2000-screen/remove-inverter-lcd-screen-12.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>Now you can access the back side of the LCD screen and disconnect the video cable.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Access video cable" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/Compaq-Presario-m2000-screen/remove-inverter-lcd-screen-13.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>Remove sticky tape securing the connection and uplug the video cable from the LCD screen connector.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Disconnect video cable from LCD screen" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/Compaq-Presario-m2000-screen/remove-inverter-lcd-screen-14.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>Now you can remove the LCD screen and replace it with a new one if needed.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove LCD screen" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/Compaq-Presario-m2000-screen/remove-inverter-lcd-screen-15.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>The best way to find a new replacement screen is searching by the LCD part number. In my laptop the part number is LP150X08 (A5)(N1).</p>

<p><img class="alignnone" title="Lift up keyboard" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/Compaq-Presario-m2000/removing-laptop-parts-06.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 6.</strong></p>
<p>Place the keyboard so you can access the cable connector.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Keyboard connected to motherboard" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/Compaq-Presario-m2000/removing-laptop-parts-07.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 7.</strong></p>
<p>Carefully unlock the connector by moving the white part of the connector towards the hinges.<br />
<strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">WARNING!</span> </strong>If you accidentally break the connector, you will have to replace the whole motherboard or use the notebook with an external keyboard.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Unlock keyboard cable connector" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/Compaq-Presario-m2000/removing-laptop-parts-08.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 8.</strong></p>
<p>Now you can release the cable and remove the keyboard.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove keyboard" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/Compaq-Presario-m2000/removing-laptop-parts-09.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>You will find the keyboard part number on the back side of the keyboard. In my laptop the part number is 367777-001. Do you need a new keyboard for Presario M2000 notebook? <a rel="nofollow" href="http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?ff3=4&amp;pub=5574673312&amp;toolid=10001&amp;campid=5335918710&amp;customid=Presario+M2000+keyboard&amp;mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fshop.ebay.com%2Fi.html%3F_nkw%3D367777-001%26_sacat%3D0%26_trksid%3Dp3286.m270.l1313%26_sop%3D12%26_odkw%3Dm2000%2Bpower%2Bconnector%2Bboard%26_osacat%3D0" target="_blank">Find a new inexpensive keyboard here</a>.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Keyboard part number" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/Compaq-Presario-m2000/removing-laptop-parts-10.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>In the following 2 steps I will remove the notebook LCD panel.</p>
<p><strong>STEP 9.</strong></p>
<p>Remove six screws securing the display hinges (three screws per hinge).<br />
Disconnect the LCD cable (video cable) from the motherboard.<br />
If you laptop came with Wi-Fi card, you&#8217;ll have to disconnect Wi-Fi antenna cables from the wireless card and unroute the cables. My laptop came without wireless card and because of that there are no Wi-Fi antenna cables running from the display panel.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove screws securing display panel" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/Compaq-Presario-m2000/removing-laptop-parts-11.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>By the way, you&#8217;ll find the display panel part number on a sticker above the LCD cable connector. In my case the part number is 381066-001. This is part number for the whole display panel assembly including the LCD screen, video cable, hinges, plastic cover and bezel.</p>
<p>Some sellers use this part number just for the LCD screen. Make sure you know what you are buying, the whole display panel or just the LCD screen. Ask the seller.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Display panel part number" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/Compaq-Presario-m2000/removing-laptop-parts-12.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 10.</strong></p>
<p>Remove the display panel assembly. Here you can buy a <a rel="nofollow" href="http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?ff3=4&amp;pub=5574673312&amp;toolid=10001&amp;campid=5335918710&amp;customid=Presario+M2000+display&amp;mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fshop.ebay.com%2Fi.html%3F_nkw%3D381066-001%26_sacat%3D0%26_trksid%3Dp3286.m270.l1313%26_sop%3D12%26_dmpt%3DPCA_Mice_Trackballs%26_odkw%3D367777-001%26_osacat%3D0" target="_blank">new LCD screen or entire display panel</a> for Presario M2000.</p>

<p>In this guide I&#8217;ll be removing the LCD screen and inverter board from a Dell Inspiron 9400 laptop. You can use same set of instructions for a Dell Inspiron E1705 and probably some other Dell laptops. If my guide works for you, please mention the laptop model in the comments below.</p>
<p><span id="more-418"></span>Need a new LCD screen for your Dell Inspiron 9400 laptop? Find it <a rel="nofollow" href="http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?ff3=4&amp;pub=5574673312&amp;toolid=10001&amp;campid=5335918710&amp;customid=Inspiron+9400+LCD&amp;mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fshop.ebay.com%2F%3F_from%3DR40%26_trksid%3Dp3907.m38.l1313%26_nkw%3DInspiron%2B9400%2Bscreen%26_sacat%3DSee-All-Categories" target="_blank">here for less than $100</a>.</p>
<p><script type="text/javascript"><!--

// --></script></p>
<p><script src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js" type="text/javascript"></script></p>
<p>Like in most other laptops, in this model the LCD screen is mounted between the display cover and front bezel. You&#8217;ll find eight screw seals on the front bezel. Six rubber seals (red circles) and two plastic seals (green circles).</p>
<p>Remove rubber seals using a sharp object. Glue these seals somewhere on the front bezel so they don&#8217;t get lost.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove rubber seal" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/Dell-Inspiron-9400-LCD/removing-screen-inverter-02.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>Remove two plastic seals using the same tool. Also, glue them somewhere on the front bezel.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove plastic seal" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/Dell-Inspiron-9400-LCD/removing-screen-inverter-03.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>Remove all eight screws found under the seals.</p>
<p>When all screws are removed you can start separating the front bezel from the display cover.  Use your fingers and a piece of soft plastic. In this guide I&#8217;m using a guitar pick.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Separate screen bezel from cover" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/Dell-Inspiron-9400-LCD/removing-screen-inverter-04.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>Continue separating the front bezel.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Continue removing screen bezel" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/Dell-Inspiron-9400-LCD/removing-screen-inverter-05.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>The front bezel has been removed.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Screen bezel removed" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/Dell-Inspiron-9400-LCD/removing-screen-inverter-06.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>There are screws securing the LCD screen to the hinge bracket. You&#8217;ll find four screws on each side.</p>
<p>Remove four screw on one side of the display panel.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove screws from side of LCD" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/Dell-Inspiron-9400-LCD/removing-screen-inverter-07.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>And after that remove four screws on the other side of the panel.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Screws on other side LCD" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/Dell-Inspiron-9400-LCD/removing-screen-inverter-08.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>Now you can separate the LCD screen assembly from the cover.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Separate LCD screen assembly from cover" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/Dell-Inspiron-9400-LCD/removing-screen-inverter-09.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>Be careful, there is a video cable connecting the LCD screen and inverter board to the motherboard.<br />
Place the LCD screen on the palm rest so you can access the video cable and unplug it from the LCD screen and inverter.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Video cable connects LCD to motherboard" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/Dell-Inspiron-9400-LCD/removing-screen-inverter-10.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>Press on latches on both sides of the video cable connector and pull it from the LCD screen.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Unplug video cable from LCD screen" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/Dell-Inspiron-9400-LCD/removing-screen-inverter-11.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>Unplug the other end of the video cable from the inverter board.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Unplug LCD cable from inverter board" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/Dell-Inspiron-9400-LCD/removing-screen-inverter-12.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>Now you can remove the LCD screen and inverter board. As you see, the inverter board is attached to the LCD screen frame. It&#8217;s very common setup for Dell laptops.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove LCD assembly" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/Dell-Inspiron-9400-LCD/removing-screen-inverter-13.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>The inverter board is mounted inside the metal casing which is a part of the LCD screen frame.<br />
Remove one screw securing the inverter board and turn the LCD screen upside down.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove one screw securing inverter board" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/Dell-Inspiron-9400-LCD/removing-screen-inverter-14.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>Unplug the backlight cable from the inverter board.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Disconnect and remove inverter board" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/Dell-Inspiron-9400-LCD/removing-screen-inverter-15.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>Carefully remove the inverter board from the metal casing and replace it with a new one if needed. You can buy a new inverter board <a rel="nofollow" href="http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?ff3=4&amp;pub=5574673312&amp;toolid=10001&amp;campid=5335918710&amp;customid=Inspiron+9400+inverter&amp;mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fshop.ebay.com%2Fitems%2F%3F_nkw%3DInspiron%2B9400%2Binverter%26_sacat%3D0%26_trksid%3Dp3286.m270.l1313%26_odkw%3DInspiron%2B9400%2Bscreen%26_osacat%3D0" target="_blank">here for about $15-20.</a><br />
