In this guide I explain how to remove and replace the LCD screen or inverter board in a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop. Most likely this guide will work for many other Dell laptops. If it works for you, please mention the model number in comments after this post.

In order to remove the LCD screen and inverter board we’ll have to take apart the display assembly. Before you start, make sure the laptop is turned off and battery removed.

STEP 1.

There are six rubber screw covers on the screen bezel.

Remove all covers with a sharp object. You can blue covers on the screen bezel so they don’t get lost.

Now remove all six screws found under those covers.

STEP 2.

Start separating the screen bezel from the display cover. You may use a piece of plastic as case cracker.

Insert fingers under the bezel and carefully wiggle the bezel until it separates from the cover.

STEP 3.

Continue removing bezel on the top.

STEP 4.

On the bottom the bezel could be glued to the LCD screen with double sticky tape.

Carefully separate bezel from the screen.

STEP 5.

The screen bezel has been removed.

STEP 6.

Remove two screws securing the LCD screen assembly to the display hinges.

STEP 7.

Carefully separate the LCD screen assembly from the display cover and place it face down on the keyboard.

STEP 8.

Now you can access the back side of the LCD screen.

The inverter board mounted into the bracket on the LCD screen.

STEP 9.

Disconnect video cable from the LCD screen.

STEP 10.

Disconnect another video cable connector from the inverter board.

STEP 11.

The LCD screen assembly has been removed.

There are two mounting brackets on both side of the screen and inverter board on the bottom.

STEP 12.

Remove one screw securing the inverter board to the bracket.

STEP 13.

Turn the LCD screen assembly over and disconnect the backlight cable from the left side of the inverter.

STEP 14.

Now you can remove the inverter board and replace it with a new one if needed.

The best way to search for a replacement screen would be using Dell part number (0D196j in my case) or LCD model number (LP154W01 (TL)(F2) in my case).

If you are replacing just the screen, I would recommend buying exactly the same screen. When you use a compatible screen, you may run into a problem with screen brightness, it might non work properly.

If you want to use a compatible screen, I would suggest finding one with the inverter board attached.

STEP 15.

After the LCD screen has been removed, you can remove left and right mounting brackets and transfer them to the new screen.

In order to remove the bracket, simply remove four screws on the side.

In the following guide I show how to replace damaged LCD screen in Dell Latitude E5400 or Latitude E5500 laptop.

Using this guide you’ll be able to replace the screen or inverter board.

Before you start, make sure the laptop is turned off and the battery removed.

REMOVING AND REPLACING DAMAGED LCD SCREEN.

STEP 1.

The LCD bezel doesn’t have screws.

Simply start separating the LCD bezel from the cover with your fingers.

STEP 2.

Continue separating the bezel.

STEP 3.

The LCD bezel has been removed.

STEP 4.

Now remove four screws securing the LCD screen on the right side.

STEP 5.

Remove four more screws on the left side of the screen.

STEP 6.

Carefully separate the LCD screen from the cover and place it face down on the keyboard.

STEP 7.

Disconnect the LCD cable from the screen.

Disconnect the screen backlight cable from the right side of the inverter board.

STEP 8.

Now you can remove the LCD screen and replace it with a new one.

The best way to find a compatible replacement screen is searching by the screen model number (LTN141AT07 in this particular example) or Dell part number (0HT326 in this particular example).

Both numbers are printed on the LCD sticker.

REMOVING SCREEN INVERTER BOARD.

If you would like to remove the inverter board, follow the next three steps.

STEP 1.

Remove one screw securing the inverter board to the screen cover.

STEP 2.

Separate the inverter board from the cover and disconnect the cable.

STEP 3.

Remove and replace the inverter board.

By the way, it’s not necessary to remove the LCD sreen in order to remove the inverter. You can remove the inveter whith the LCD screen installed.

In this guide I’ll be replacing failed LCD screen in a Gateway MT3000 series laptop.

To be precise, I’m fixing a Gateway MT3707 laptop which has a failed backlight lamp inside the LCD screen.

Problem description: The laptop starts with reddish image on the screen and after a few seconds the screen light goes completely off. The image is still on the screen but it’s very dark. The reddish image indicates a problem with the backlight lamp. I tested laptop with a new backlight lamp and it works fine. In this case the entire LCD screen has to be replaced.

Turn off the laptop, unplug the AC adapter and remove the battery.

STEP 1.

There are six screws securing the screen bezel. These screws hidden under six rubber plugs.

Remove all six plugs with a sharp object.

Remove six screws securing the screen bezel.

STEP 2.

Start separating the bezel from the screen cover with your fingers.

On the bottom the bezel is glued to the LCD screen with sticky tape. Carefully separate the bezel from the screen.

STEP 3.

Remove the screen bezel.

STEP 4.

The screen inverter mounted below the LCD screen.

Carefully disconnect the screen backlight cable from the right side of the inverter board.

If you are replacing the inverter board, you’ll have to disconnect one more cable from the other side of the inverter.

Now you can replace inverter with a new one.

STEP 5.

Remove four screws from left and right side of the LCD screen (two screws from each side). These screws securing the screen to the hinge brackets.

Carefully separate the LCD screen from the cover and place it on the keyboard.

STEP 6.

Remove tape securing the video cable.

Disconnect the video cable from the LCD screen connector.

Now you can remove the damaged LCD screen from the laptop.

You can find a new replacement screen by the LCD screen model number. This number is printed on the screen sticker.

In my case the LCD screen model number is LTN141W1-L03.

This screen is available here. If you have a different screen, just search by the model number.

This guide explains how to remove a damaged LCD screen from an Acer Aspire 5670 or Aspire 5620 laptop.

All following disassembly steps should be the same or very similar for Acer TravelMate 4210/4270/4670 series laptops. If this guide works for any other model, please mention the model number in the comments below.

You can save hundreds of dollars by replacing a damaged or failed LCD screen yourself but you have to be very careful. Proceed on your own risk.

Let’s go through the disassembly process step-by-step. Turn off the laptop, unplug the AC adapter and remove the battery. Make sure the laptop is completely off.

STEP 1.

There are six screw covers (caps) on the screen bezel. Remove all screw covers with a sharp object.

The bottom part of the screw cover is sticky. You can glue all screw covers to the display bezel so they don’t get lost during the disassembly process.

Remove all six screws found under those screw covers.

STEP 2.

Carefully separate the top part of the LCD screen bezel from the display cover.

Continue removing the bezel.

STEP 3.

The LCD screen bezel has been removed.

The screen inverter is mounted below the LCD screen. It’s not necessary to remove the LCD screen in order to replace the inverter. Simply disconnect cables from both sides of the inverter and replace the failed inverter with a new one if needed.

STEP 4.

Remove all screws securing both display hinges.

In some models, there could be two more screws securing the LCD screen on the top of the display assembly (on the left and right sides from the web camera).

STEP 5.

If you didn’t remove screen inverter in the step 3, then you’ll have to disconnect one cable from the right side of the inverter. This is the LCD screen backlight lamp cable.

STEP 6.

Carefully separate the LCD screen from the display cover and access the back side of the screen.

Disconnect the video cable from the LCD screen.

STEP 7.

Remove four screws securing the LCD screen to the hinge brackets. There are two screws on each side of the screen.

Now you can remove the damaged or failed LCD screen and replace it with a new screen.

This video explains how to remove and replace the LCD screen and inverter board in Acer Aspire 5580, 5570 and 3680 series laptops.

It’s not necessary to separate the display panel from the laptop base in order to remove the LCD and inverter. You can do it while the display is still attached to the base.

REMOVING SCREEN AND INVERTER WITHOUT REMOVING DISPLAY PANEL

1. Turn off the laptop and remove the battery.

2. Remove 8 screws securing the display bezel (time point 0:08 in the video).

3. Remove the display bezel (time point 0:20 in the video).

4. Remove the inverter board (time point 0:30 in the video).

5. Remove screws securing the LCD screen assembly to the display cover (time poing 0:43).

Now it’s getting differnt.

6. Separate the LCD screen assembly from the display cover and disconnect the video cable on the back of the LCD screen (time 1:44 in the video).

NOTE: At this point the LCD screen assembly is still attached to the laptop base.

7. Remove screws securing the LCD screen to the moutning brackets. Two screws on each side of the screen (time 1:17 in the video).

8. Replace the removed LCD screen with a new one if needed. You can find a new screen for Acer Aspire laptops here.

In this post I explain how to disassemble the display panel on an HP Pavilion dv7 series notebooks.

I’m taking apart an HP Pavilion dv7t-1000 notebook PC but my instructions should work for all models in the Pavilion dv7 line. If this guide works for you please mention the notebook model number in comments after the post.

Before you start, turn off the laptop and remove the battery.

STEP 1.

There are two screws securing the LCD screen bezel to the display cover. These screws are located in the lower left and right corners and hidden under two screw covers.

Using a sharp object remove the left screw cover. After that remove the screw.

STEP 2.

Using same technique remove the right screw cover. After that remove the screw.

STEP 3.

Start separating the LCD screen bezel from the display cover on the top. You can use a guitar pick as a case cracker.

Insert the guitar pick between the bezel and cover and slowly move along display side. Continue removing the screen bezel with your fingers.

STEP 4.

Continue removing the LCD screen bezel.

STEP 5.

Screen bezel removed.

STEP 6.

The screen inverter board is mounted below the LCD screen. There are no screws securing the inverter.

Lift up the inverter board and disconnect cables on both ends.

STEP 7.

Remove the screen inverter board.

STEP 8.

Remove eight screws securing the LCD screen assembly to the display cover.

STEP 9.

Separate the LCD screen assemble from the display cover and disconnect one cable from the web camera module.

STEP 10.

Now you can access the video cable connector on the back of the LCD screen.

STEP 11.

Unplug the video cable from the LCD screen.

STEP 12.

Remove four screws securing the LCD screen to the mounting bracket on the right side.

Remove four more screws on the left side (picture not shown).

STEP 13.

Carefully remove the LCD screen. Now you can replace it with a new screen if needed.

The following set of instructions explains how to remove the LCD screen and inverter board from a Dell XPS M1530 laptop. You can disassemble the display panel without removing it from the laptop.

STEP 1.

Turn off the laptop and remove the battery.

There are no screws securing the screen bezel. Start separating the screen bezel from the display cover with your fingers.

STEP 2.

Continue removing the screen bezel on the top.

STEP 3.

Remove bezel from the hinges.

STEP 4.

The screen bezel has been removed.

STEP 5.

Remove six screws securing the LCD screen assembly.

STEP 6.

Separate LCD screen assembly from the display cover.

STEP 7.

Place the LCD screen assembly face down on the keyboard. Now you can access the back side of the screen and disconnect cables.

STEP 8.

Disconnect the video cable connector from the LCD screen controller board.

STEP 9.

Parts of the video cable could be glued to the screen. Unglue the cable.

STEP 10.

Disconnect cable from the inverter board.

STEP 11.

Remove the LCD screen assembly.

If you are replacing the LCD screen you’ll have to transfer mounting brackets from the old screen to a new one.

STEP 12.

It looks like the inverter board is a part of the LCD screen but it’s not. The inverter board can be removed and replaced separately.

Remove one screw securing the inverter board to the LCD bracket.

STEP 13.

Disconnect the screen backlight lamp cable from the left side of the inverter board.

In order to remove the inverter board, you’ll have to slide the inverter to the right side about 3-4 millimeters, lift up the left side of the inverter and remove it from the bracket.

The inverter board can be glued to the bracket, so work slowly.

Dell Inspiron 6000 display disassembly.

STEP 1.

Remove six screw covers from the screen bezel.

Remove all screws found under those covers.

You can remove the screw cover with a sharp object or small screwdriver.

STEP 2.

Start separating the screen bezel from the display cover.

Remove the screen bezel.

STEP 3.

Remove four screws from the right side of the LCD screen assembly.

Remove four more screws from the left side.

STEP 4.

Separate the LCD screen assembly from the display cover.

STEP 5.

Place the LCD screen assembly face down on the keyboard.

Now you can access the video cable.

STEP 6.

Unplug the small connector from the screen inverter board.

STEP 7.

Disconnect the video cable connector from the LCD screen.

STEP 8.

Remove the LCD screen assembly.

The inverter board is attached to the LCD screen frame.

STEP 9.

Remove one screw securing the inverter board.

STEP 10.

Disconnect the baklight lamp cable from the left side of the inverter board.

STEP 11.

Slide the inverter board to the right.

STEP 12.

Lift up the left side of the inverter board.

STEP 13.

Remove inverter board from the mounting bracket.

Now you can replace the inverter board with a new one if needed.

There are six screw seals on the LCD screen bezel. Remove all six seals and screws found under them.

You can remove the screw seal with a sharp object or small flat head screwdriver. The seal bottom is sticky. Glue all screw seals somewhere on the screen bezel so they don’t get lost.

STEP 2.

Start separating the screen bezel from display cover with your fingers.

STEP 3.

Remove the screen bezel.

STEP 4.

Remove six screws securing the LCD screen mounting brackets to the display cover.

STEP 5.

Separate the LCD screen assembly from the display cover and place face down on the keyboard.

STEP 6.

Now you can access the back side of the LCD screen and video cable.

The video cable has two connectors. One of them is connected to the inverter board and another one to the LCD screen.

STEP 7.

Disconnect the small connector from the inverter board.

STEP 8.

Disconnect another connector from the LCD screen.

STEP 9.

Remove the LCD screen assembly from the laptop.

STEP 10.

If you are replacing the LCD screen, you’ll have to transfer both mounting brackets to the new screen. Each bracket is secured by a few screws.

In Dell laptops the inverter board is attached to the bottom of the LCD screen.

Even though it looks like the inverter board is a part of the LCD screen, it’s possible to remove the inverter and replace it separately.

In this guide I explain how to remove and replace the broken LCD screen in a Gateway M7 series laptop. I’m fixing a Gateway M-6846 laptop. It also says Model No.: SA1 on the bottom. Turn off the laptop, unplug the power adapter and remove the battery.

STEP 1.

There are three hinge covers on the bottom of the display panel. We’ll have to remove these covers first.

Insert a sharp object under the hinge cover and lift it up. Continue removing the cover with your fingers.

The hinge cover has been removed.

Remove two other hinge covers.

STEP 2.

There are six screw covers on the screen bezel.

Remove screw covers with a sharp object.

Remove all six screws found under the covers.

STEP 3.

Start separating the screen bezel from the display cover.

Continue removing the screen bezel.

The screen bezel has been removed.

STEP 4.

The screen inverter board mounted below the LCD screen.

Remove one screw securing the inverter board.

Unplug the LCD screen backlight cable from the right side of the inverter board.

I’m not replacing the inverter board, so I’m not disconnecting the cable on the left side.

STEP 5.

Remove six screws securing the LCD screen hinges and mounting bracket.

Before you can separate the LCD screen assembly from the display cover, you’ll have to unplug cable from the webcam board.

Now you can separate the screen assembly from the display cover and access the video cable connection on the back of the screen.

Unplug video cable from the LCD screen connector.

STEP 6.

Remove two screws securing LCD screen to the mounting  bracket.

Remove two more screws on the other side of the screen.

Now you can remove the broken LCD screen and replace it with a new screen.

I found a new LCD screen for my Gateway M-6846 laptop here. If you have a different Gateway laptop, just search by the model number.
