In this guide I explain how to change LED backlit LCD screen on an Asus UL30VT laptop.

The guide should work for all models in the Asus UL30V series line.

To be precise, the full name of the laptop I’m working with is Asus UL30VT-X1.

The LCD screen replacement procedure is pretty much straight forward and shouldn’t take more than 20 minutes.

Before you start, make sure the laptop is turned off.

STEP 1.

Start laptop disassembly with disconnecting the battery.

STEP 2.

On the LCD screen bezel you’ll find six screw covers.

STEP 3.

Remove each screw cover with a sharp object.

Glue screw covers somewhere on the bezel so they don’t get lost (the bottom part is sticky).

Remove all six screws found under those covers.

STEP 4.

Now we’ll start separating the screen bezel from the back cover. There are hidden plastic latches securing the bezel to the cover.

Insert a piece of soft plastic (I’m using the guitar pick) between the bezel and cover and move it along the side.

At the same time insert your fingers under the bezel and separate it from the back cover.

STEP 5.

Continue removing the bezel on the upper side of the display assembly.

After that move to the lower part.

STEP 6.

The screen bezel removed.

STEP 7.

Now you can separate the screen from the back cover.

There are no screws securing the screen.

STEP 8.

Place the screen on the keyboard so you can access the back side.

You’ll see the video cable connector to the screen.

STEP 9.

Remove sticky tape securing the connection.

Disconnect the video cable from the LCD screen connector.

STEP 10.

Now you can remove and change the screen.

If you need a new screen for your Asus UL30VT laptop, you can find it here.

In this guide I show how to replace LCD screen on HP Pavilion dv4 laptop.

HP Pavilion dv4 laptop comes with two different types of screens installed:
1. LCD screen with CCFL backlight (requires screen inverter).
2. LCD screen with LED backlight.

In this guide I’ll be replacing LCD with CCFL backlihgt.

Also you can use this guide for replacing LED LCDs but they don’t have inverter boards so you’ll have to skip steps 8 and 9.

Before you start make sure the laptop is turned off.

STEP 1.

Remove the laptop battery.

STEP 2.

Remove the screw cover located in the lower left corner of the display.

Remove one screw securing the screen bezel on the left side.

STEP 3.

Remove the screw cover located in the lower right corner of the display.

Remove one screw securing the screen bezel on the right side.

STEP 4.

Separate the top side of the screen bezel from the display cover.

STEP 5.

Continue removing the screen bezel.

STEP 6.

When the top side of the bezel separated from the display cover, move to the lower part.

Lift up one side of the bezel with a small screwdriver.

Work slowly. There are hidden latches securing the bezel. Try not to break all of them.

STEP 7.

Remove the screen bezel.

STEP 8.

As I mentioned before, this HP Pavilion dv4 laptop has a CCFL LCD screen which requires an inverter board.

The screen inverter mounted on the lower part of the display assembly.

STEP 13.

Now you should be able to separate the LCD screen from the display cover just enough to access screws on both sides of the LCD screen.

Remove four screws securing the LCD screen on the right side.

The web camera IS NOT a part of the screen but it’s attached to the screen by two sticky aluminum strips.

Disconnect the web camera cable on the left side.

Today I show how to remove and replace screen in an Acer Aspire One A0751h netbook (Model ZA3).

This tutorial may work for some other Acer Aspire One netbooks. If it works for you, please mention the laptop model in comment after the post.

Before you start, make sure the netbook turned off and battery removed.

STEP 1.

There are six rubber seals on the screen bezel.

You’ll find six screws securing the screen bezel under these seals.

You can remove the screw seal with a sharp object.

After screw seals removed, glue them somewhere on the bezel so they don’t get lost.

Remove all six screws found under the seals.

STEP 2.

Start separating the screen bezel from the display cover with your fingers.

STEP 3.

Continue separating the screen bezel until it’s removed.

STEP 4.

The screen bezel has been removed.

STEP 5.

Remove two screws from the right side of the screen assembly.

These screws securing the screen to the mounting bracket.

STEP 6.

Remove two more screws from the left side of the screen.

STEP 7.

Disconnect the web camera cable.

Separate the microphone from the cover (it’s glued to the cover with double sticky tape).

STEP 8.

Now you can separate the screen from the display cover.

STEP 9.

Place the screen face down on the keyboard.

Carefully separate the video cable from the back of the screen (the cable glued to the screen with double sticky tape).

Disconnect the video cable connector from the screen.

Now you can remove the screen and replace it with a new one.

The best way to find a new compatible screen is searching by the screen model number.

In my Acer Aspire One A0751h netbook the screen had the following model number: B116XW02

This is a 11.6″ LED-backlit screen.

This screen is relatively inexpensive.

Here you can buy a brand new replacement screen for Acer Aspire One netbook for about $70-80.

In this guide I explain how to remove and replaced damaged screen in an Asus Eee PC 1201n netbook. There is a good chance this guide fits other Asus Eee netbooks. If it works for you, please mention the model number in comments after the post.

Asus Eee PC 1201n netbook has a LED-backlit screen. This screen is not cheap and replacing it in a laptop repair shop probably doesn’t make sense because the repair may cost a few hundred dollars. But if you can find a cheap screen and replace it yourself it’s a different story.

Before you start make sure the laptop is turned off and battery removed.

STEP 1.

There are six screw seals on the front bezel. These seals hiding screws securing the bezel.

You can remove seals with a sharp object.

After all seals are removed, remove all six screws.

STEP 2.

Start separating the screen bezel from the display cover with your fingers.

STEP 3.

Continue removing the bezel on the top of the display assembly.

STEP 4.

I found that in this model hinge covers are not part of the screen bezel.

You’ll have to separate the hinge cover from the bezel, lift up the hinge cover and remove the bezel as it shown on the following picture.

STEP 5.

Remove the screen bezel.

STEP 6.

After the screen bezel removed, you can remove the right hinge cover.

STEP 7.

Remove the left hinge cover.

STEP 8.

Carefully separate the screen assembly from the display cover and remove two screws on the right side.

These screws securing the screen to the mounting brackets.

STEP 9.

Remove two more screws on the left side of the screen assembly.

NOTE: the bottom screws located under a small magnet. Do not forget to put the magnet back in place when you assembled everything back together. This magnet activates the lid close switch when you close the display.

STEP 10.

Carefully separate the laptops screen from the display cover and place it face down on the keyboard.

STEP 11.

Now you can access the video cable and disconnect it from the screen.

As I mentioned before, this is LED-backlit screen so there is no inverter board in this model.

STEP 12.

Disconnect the video cable from the screen.

STEP 13.

The laptop screen has been removed and ready for replacement.

The best way to find a new replacement screen is searching by the screen model number.

In my Asus Eee PC 1201n netbook the screen has the following model number: HSD121PHW1 (made by HannStar).

You can find a new LED-backlit replacement screen here. If your screen is different, just search by the model number.

Just in case, before you purchase a new screen, I would suggest contacting the seller to make sure the new screen is compatible with your laptop.

In this guide I’ll be replacing failed LCD screen in a Gateway MT3000 series laptop.

To be precise, I’m fixing a Gateway MT3707 laptop which has a failed backlight lamp inside the LCD screen.

Problem description: The laptop starts with reddish image on the screen and after a few seconds the screen light goes completely off. The image is still on the screen but it’s very dark. The reddish image indicates a problem with the backlight lamp. I tested laptop with a new backlight lamp and it works fine. In this case the entire LCD screen has to be replaced.

Turn off the laptop, unplug the AC adapter and remove the battery.

STEP 1.

There are six screws securing the screen bezel. These screws hidden under six rubber plugs.

Remove all six plugs with a sharp object.

Remove six screws securing the screen bezel.

STEP 2.

Start separating the bezel from the screen cover with your fingers.

On the bottom the bezel is glued to the LCD screen with sticky tape. Carefully separate the bezel from the screen.

STEP 3.

Remove the screen bezel.

STEP 4.

The screen inverter mounted below the LCD screen.

Carefully disconnect the screen backlight cable from the right side of the inverter board.

If you are replacing the inverter board, you’ll have to disconnect one more cable from the other side of the inverter.

Now you can replace inverter with a new one.

STEP 5.

Remove four screws from left and right side of the LCD screen (two screws from each side). These screws securing the screen to the hinge brackets.

Carefully separate the LCD screen from the cover and place it on the keyboard.

STEP 6.

Remove tape securing the video cable.

Disconnect the video cable from the LCD screen connector.

Now you can remove the damaged LCD screen from the laptop.

You can find a new replacement screen by the LCD screen model number. This number is printed on the screen sticker.

Video failure is a very common issue with HP Pavilion dv2000, dv6000 and dv9000 series notebooks. It happens because of poor design of the cooling module. The video chip overheats and separates from the motherboard.

VIDEO FAILURE SYMPTOMS:

1. Notebook turns on, all LED lights light up properly but nothing appears on the internal LCD screen. The notebook LCD screen is completely blank and black. Also, there is no video on the external monitor attached to the notebook.

2. Video on the notebook screen and external monitor is garbled.

HP KNOWS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM:

HP knows about this problem with dv2000, dv6000 and dv9000 notebooks. <del>Some qualified models HP fixes at no charge by replacing the motherboard.</del> This offer from HP is over.

Basically you have two options:

1. Replace the whole motherboard with a new one.

2. Fix the failed video chip as it shown on the video.

As an example the author is fixing an HP Pavilion dv9000 notebook but same technique can be used on HP Pavilion dv2000 and dv6000.

NOTEBOOK DISASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS:

HP Pavilion dv2000.

HP Pavilion dv6000.

You can use these disassembly instructions.

HP Pavilion dv9000.

1. Disassembly instructions shown in the video above.

Compaq Presario v6000.

For the video chip repair you’ll need aluminum foil, new thermal compound (thermal grease) and hand soldering flame torch.

I haven’t tried this fix myself but according to the video it should work pretty well. Proceed at your own risk! If you are not careful enough, you can permanently damage the motherboard..

UPDATE: here’s another way to tix the failed video chip by baking the motherboard in an conventional oven.

Toshiba Satellite L305D or L305 stopped showing video on the LCD screen. Video on the external monitor works just fine but nothing appears on the internal screen, it’s completely blank. What could be wrong?

The LCD screen doesn’t work because the video cable got disconnected from the motherboard.

I have seen a problem like that on a few different Satellite L305D laptops. Not sure why it’s happening but check this out.

In order to access the video cable connector you’ll have to remove the keyboard first.

Using a sharp object lift up and remove the keyboard bezel.

Under the bezel you’ll find two screws securing the motherboard. Remove both screws.

Lift up the keyboard and place it upside down on the palm rest. Be careful, the keyboard is attached to the motherboard.

You’ll find the video cable connector under the keyboard.

If you look very closely, you’ll see that the video cable is half way out of the connector on the motherboard.

Plug the video cable back into the connector and test the laptop now. Does it help?

Today I will be removing and replacing the LCD screen in an IBM ThinkPad T43p laptop. You can use same set of instructions for ThinkPad T43 and some other IBM (now Lenovo) laptops.

Failure description: the laptop starts with a reddish screen (white color appear to be pink). After a minute or two the backlight goes completely off but you still can see a very faint image on the screen if you look very closely. When you restart the laptop, the screen lights up again but a minute later the light goes off.

Solution: the laptop has a failing backlight lamp which is a part of the LCD screen. The whole screen has to be replaced.

Let’s disassemble the display panel and remove the LCD screen.

STEP 1.

Carefully remove four screw seals from the bottom part of the display bezel.

You can remove them with a sharp object.

Remove all four screws found under the seals.

STEP 2.

Remove three screws (found under seals) from the left side of the display panel.

STEP 3.

Remove four screws (found under seals) from the right side of the display panel.

STEP 4.

The display bezel is glued to the LCD screen with sticky tape. You can separate the bezel using a guitar pick (as I do) or another piece of plastic.
Insert the guitar pick between the display bezel and screen and carefully move it along the side until the bezel is separated.

STEP 5.

Continue removing the display bezel with your fingers.

STEP 6.

The screen inverter is mounted under the bezel and can be replaced without removing the bezel completely. I’ll remove the display bezel because I have to replace the LCD screen.

STEP 7.

The display bezel has been removed.

STEP 8.

In order to confirm the backlight lamp failure I did the following experiment.
I unpluged the LCD screen from the right side of the inveter board and pluged in an known good backlight lamp. After that I turned on the laptop and tested it with my backlight lamp for about 10 minutes. My backlight lamp didn’t turn off and worked fine all time. That means the backlight lamp inside the screen is bad.

If your laptop doesn’t work with a known good backlight lamp, most likely you have a problem with the inverter board.

STEP 9.

Unplug the inverter board from the video cable.
Remove the inverter board.

Do you need a new inverter board? Find a new inverter here.

STEP 10.

Carefully separate the LCD screen from the display cover. Do not forget to release the cable with night lamp. Simply pull the cable from the display cover.

STEP 11.

Now you can access the back side of the LCD screen and unplug the screen cable.

Remove sticky tape securing the connection and pull the cable connector from the LCD screen.

STEP 12.

Remove the LCD screen from the laptop.

The LCD screen has been removed.

Be careful with this piece of plastic. Try not to remove it from the display because it will take some time to figure out how to connect it back together.
I believe this piece of plastic is designed to prevent the screen cable from breaking when you close the display.

STEP 13.

Remove two screws securing the display mounting brackets.
Remove the bracket and move it to a new LCD screen.
Do the same with the bracket on the other side of the screen.

You can find a new LCD screen using two different part numbers from the back side of the defective screen:
1. The model number of the LCD screen. In my laptop it is N150U3-L01
2. FRU part number. In my laptop it is 92P6753.

Looking for a new screen for your IBM ThinkPad T43/T43p laptop? You can find a brand new screen here.
