STEP 1.

Insert a small flat head screwdriver under the hinge cover and lift it up. The hinge cover is a part of the keyboard cover.

In the following guide I explain how to remove and replace damaged LCD screen in HP G50/G60/G70 notebooks. I’m installing a new LCD screen into a HP G50 notebook but all disassembly steps should be almost the same or at least very similar for HP G60 and G70.

By the way, HP G50/G60/G70 notebooks also known as Compaq Presario CQ50, Presario CQ60 and Presario CQ70.

In most notebooks you can replace the LCD screen without separating the display panel from the base but not in HP G50/G60/G70. In order to replace LCD screen in these models we’ll have to remove the keyboard, keyboard cover and display panel. Let’s start replacing the screen.

Need spare parts for your HP laptop? Search by the part name or number here. You can find the HP spare part number in the service manual. I linked to service manuals at the end of this guide.

In the next post I explain how to remove laptop motherboard.

// ]]>

STEP 1.

Turn off the laptop and remove the battery.
Remove one screw securing the Wi-Fi cover and remove the cover.
It is not necessary to remove the memory and hard drive covers. I marked them just for your convenience.

STEP 2.

Remove three (yellow) screws securing the keyboard.
Remove four (red) screws securing the keyboard cover.

If you are using this guide for replacing the keyboard, you have to remove only three (yellow) screws.

In G50 and G60 the keyboard screws are located in the battery compartment.
In G70 notebooks there are only two screws securing the keyboard and they are located on the bottom (there is a small keyboard stamped close to each screw).

STEP 3.

Carefully lift up the keyboard from the base.

STEP 4.

Place the keyboard so you can access the cable connector underneath.

You have to unlock the connector and release the cable before removing the keyboard.
Move the white clip about 2-3 millimeters towards the display panel and release the cable. Now you can remove the keyboard.

WARNING! The white clip must stay attached to the connector base. If you accidentally break the connector, you’ll have to replace the motherboard. If you work slowly, everything should be fine.

On the picture below the keyboard connector is shown in the unlocked state.

STEP 5.

Disconnect the switch board cable from the motherboard.

STEP 7.

Turn the laptop upside down and disconnect two antenna cables from the wireless card.
Each antenna cable has a golden head. Grab the head with your fingers and lift it up.

STEP 8.

Disconnect the video cable connector from the motherboard.
Disconnect the webcam cable from the motherboard.
Pull two Wi-Fi antenna cables through the opening.

STEP 9.

STEP 10.

Lift up and separate the display panel from the laptop base.

In the following steps we will disassemble the display panel and remove the LCD screen.

STEP 11.

There are two screw seals located in the lower left and right corners.

Remove these seals with a sharp object and remove screws found under the seals.

STEP 13.

The screen inverter board is mounted below the screen. The inverter is locked between plastic brackets.

You can remove and replace the inverter board without removing the LCD screen. Simply pull the inverter board from the cover and disconnect connectors on both ends.

STEP 14.

Remove two screws securing the right display hinge.

Remove the right hinge.

STEP 15.

Remove two screws securing the left display hinge.

Remove the left hinge.

STEP 16.

Remove the inverter board from the cover and disconnect one connector from the right side. By the way, this is the backlight lamp connector.

STEP 17.

Remove two screws securing the LCD screen on the top.

STEP 18.

Now you can separate the LCD screen from the display cover and access the video cable.

My HP G50 notebook didn’t have the webcam installed and the webcam cable was taped to the display cover.
If you have a HP G60/G70 notebook, most likely it came with the webcam. You’ll have to disconnect the cable from the webcam before disconnecting the video cable.

STEP 19.

Remove sticky tape securing the video cable connector and unplug cable from the LCD screen.

STEP 20.

Now you can remove the LCD screen from the cover.

If you are replacing the screen, you’ll have to transfer the left and right mounting brackets to the new screen.
Remove three screws securing the bracket and remove the bracket. Do the same with the other side.

The LCD screen model number is located on the sticker. In my laptop I had a screen with the following model number: B154EW08 v.1

The best way to find a new LCD screen for your laptop is either searching by the LCD model number (shown in the picture above) or using the HP part number.

The HP part numbers for LCD screen and other parts can be found in service manuals and here they are.

After you find the spare part number for LCD screen or any other part, you can search for a new replacement part here. You’ll find many cheap LCD screen replacements.

In the following guide I explain how to replace the left hinge in a HP Pavilion dv9000 laptop.
Broken left hinge is a known issue with HP Pavilion dv9000/dv9100/dv9200/dv9400 series laptops. A while ago HP was fixing this issue at no charge under the service enhancement program. This program has expired on May 31, 2009 and now you are on your own.

I believe this guide will work with some other HP Pavilion laptops even though replacement part numbers can be different. If it works for you, please mention the laptop model number in the comments below.

I will explain how to find correct parts for this repair at the end of the guide.

STEP 1.

Remove six screws located in the battery compartment. These screws secure the switch cover.

STEP 2.

Remove the switch cover and place it upside down on the keyboard. Be careful because the switch cover is attached to the motherboard via a flat ribbon cable.

For more detailed instructions for removing the switch cover please check out my previous guide about removing the keyboard.

STEP 3.

Remove five screws seals from the display bezel.
Remove all five screws found under these seals.

STEP 4.

Remove display bezel.

You’ll find more detailed instructions for removing the bezel in my previous post about removing and replacing the LCD screen.

When you remove the display bezel, you can take a closer look at the left hinge damage.

STEP 5.

Disconnect the screen backlight connector from the right side of the inverter board.
Remove six screws securing display hinges. Three screws from each hinge.

STEP 6.

Now you can separate the display cover from the LCD screen and access the video cable.
Remove sticky tape securing the connection and unplug the video cable from the LCD screen.

STEP 7.

Remove two screws from each side of the screen. These screws securing the LCD screen to the hinge brackets.

STEP 8.

Remove the LCD screen.

STEP 9.

Remove three screws securing the left hinge.

By the way, the display part number is located on a sticker glued to the video cable connector. Write down the display part number because you’ll need it later in order to find correct hinges for your laptop. In my laptop the display part number is 432949-001.

STEP 10.

Remove the left hinge assembly from the laptop.

STEP 11.

Separate the hinge cover from the hinge.

The broken left hinge is removed and ready to be replaced with a new one.

Unfortunately, in my laptop I found another damaged part, it’s the display cover.

All four screw anchors are missing and if I assemble the display panel like that, I will not be able to screw the left hinge to the display cover. The display cover has to be replaced too.

After you remove the LCD screen, it’s very easy to replace the display cover. Simply unglue the wireless card antenna cables, microphone cable, webcam cable (if you have any) from the cover and replace the cover with a new one.

How to find new hinges and display cover.

HP uses different LCD screens in Pavilion dv9000/dv9100/dv9200/dv9400 laptops. Some LCD screens come with single lamp, others come with dual lamp.

I found all LCDs listed in the service manual for HP Pavilion dv9000 and dv9200 on the page 151. By the way, for dv9100 and dv9400 HP links to the same manual and I assume you can use same part number for these models too.

Display Assembly Spare Part Number Information

In the step 9 I found that I have 432949-001 screen installed in my laptop, so I have to use hinges and cover for screens with single lamp.

You’ll find part numbers for display hinges and display cover (enclosure) on the page 87 in the same manual.

In the following guide I will be removing the LCD screen, inverter board and display hinges from a Compaq Presario F700 laptop. The display disassembly steps will be very similar for Compaq Presario F500, HP G6000 and some other HP/Compaq laptops. If this guide works for you, please mention your laptop model in the comments below.

If you want to replace the LCD screen or inverter board, it’s not necessary to remove the whole display panel as it shown on the picture above. You can do that while the display panel is still attached to the laptop base.

If you want to replace display hinges, you’ll have to remove the display panel first.

You can find the display panel removal instruction in my previous disassembly guide for a Comapq Presario F700 notebook. Follow steps 6-12 to remove the display panel assembly.

DISPLAY DISASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS.

STEP 1.

Using a sharp object remove eight screw seals from the display bezel. Remove eight screws found under the seals.

STEP 2.

Start separating the display bezel from the cover with your fingers.

In this guide I explain how to remove and replace a damaged LCD screen in a HP Pavilion dv2000 notebook. This guide should work for all models in Pavilion dv2000 line.

By the way, this HP Pavilion dv2000 is like a small copy of HP Pavilion dv6000 notebook and all disassembly steps will be very similar.

Before you start, please turn off the laptop, unplug the power adapter and remove the battery.

// -->

STEP 1.

The LCD screen is mounted between the display cover and bezel. The screen bezel is secured to the display cover by six screws hidden under six screw seals. I circled these screw seals.

Remove all seals with a sharp object and after that remove all screws found under the seals.

STEP 2.

Start separating the screen bezel from the display cover on one of the top corners.

Continue separating the screen bezel.

Remove the screen bezel.

STEP 3.

The inverter board works as a power supply for the backlight lamp hidden inside the LCD screen. In most notebooks the inverter board is mounted below the LCD screen. In my guide I will not be removing the inverter board and because of that I will unplug only one cable from the right side.

STEP 4.

Remove four screws securing the display hinges to the cover.

STEP 5.

Carefully separate the display assembly from the cover and place the LCD face down on the keyboard.

Now you can access the LCD cable (video cable) connector. The LCD cable connects the screen to the the motherboard.

STEP 6.

Unplug the LCD cable from the screen.

STEP 7.

Remove the LCD screen assembly from the notebook. As you can see, the screen still has two mounting brackets attached to the left and right sides.

STEP 8.

In order to remove the mounting bracket, simply remove three screws. Transfer the bracket to the new screen.

Are you looking for a new screen for your HP Pavilion dv2000 notebook? You can find it here for less than $70.

In this guide I will remove a broken LCD screen from a Gateway MT6704 (Model MA7) laptop and replace it with a new screen. As I mentioned in my previous article, where I was replacing the laptop keyboard, this guide will work for many other Gateway laptops in MT6700 line.

Before you start, turn off the laptop, unplug the power adapter and remove the battery.

You’ll find six rubber screw seals on the display bezel. Remove all seals with a sharp object (picture above) and also remove all six screws found under the seals.

Start separating the display bezel from the screen cover with your fingers. A piece of soft plastic (I’m using a guitar pick) will help you to separate two parts without breaking the bezel.

Continue removing the bezel on the top of the display assembly.

The display bezel has been removed.

As you see on the picture below, a part of the screen inverter is covered by the LCD support bracket. If you are removing the LCD screen or inverter, you’ll have to remove the support bracket first.

Remove two screws securing the support bracket and after that remove the bracket.

Now you can access the inverter board which is glued to the screen cover. Be very careful while separating the inverter board from the cover, do not break it.

I will not be removing the inverter in this guide, it’s not necessary for replacing the screen. But I have to unplug one cable on the right side of the inverter. This cable is permanently attached to the LCD screen, actually it’s attached to the backlight lamp inside the screen.

Carefully separate the screen from the cover and place it face down on the keyboard.

The laptop screen is connected to the motherboard by the video cable. The video cable has to be unplugged from the screen before you can remove it.

The video cable connector is secured by a clear (sticky) tape. Remove the tape and unplug the video cable from the LCD screen.

Now you can remove the screen. As you see, the mounting brackets are still attached to both sides of the screen.

Remove two screws securing the mounting bracket to the screen.

I found a sticker on the back side of the screen. Apparently, the number above the barcode is the part number used by Gateway. I was able to find a new screen using this part number.

The broken LCD screen has been removed and I’m ready to install a new one. Are you looking for a new screen for your Gateway MT6700 laptop? Try here.

Do you have a Toshiba Tecra M4 or Satellite R15 Tablet PC? The display is loose and wobbly? Probably it’s time to tighten the display hinge. Both Tecra M4 and Satellite R10/R15 Tablet PCs are very similar so you can use the same display disassembly instructions.

In order to access the display hinge you’ll have to remove the LCD cover. There are four screws securing the hinge, I pointed them with red arrows on the picture above. Tightening these screws will help to make your display less wobbly.

This guide shows how to remove the display panel assembly from Dell Inspiron 1200 and 2200 series laptops.

The display panel has three key components:
1. LCD screen (displays image)
2. Inverter board (power up the LCD backlight lamp)
3. Video cable (carries data signal for the LCD screen and power for the inverter board)

If you have a problem with the laptop video and not sure witch component is the culprit, it make sense to replace the whole display panel assembly. You can find replacement parts for Dell Inspiron 1200 and 2200 laptops here.

Troubleshooting tip:

Let’s say your laptop displays garbled video. Test your laptop with an external monitor and find out if the external video output has the same problem. If both internal and external video have the same issue, it’s not related to the display panel assembly. There is something wrong the the laptop motherboard, video card or memory

Also, you can use this guide for removing and replacing laptop keyboard, wireless card and cooling fan.

The disassembly guide doesn’t explain how to take apart the display assembly but you can find these instructions in the official service manual here.
