Your Advent laptop overheats and shuts down without any warning? Check the heatsink, most likely it’s clogged with dust.
This article explains how to access and clean the heatsink with cooling fan on an Advent 6000 series laptop.
I decided to take the laptop apart to investigate the cause of the overheating. My gut feeling was the fan on the processor broke! But when I took the laptop notebook apart the culprit of overheating was dust blocking the airways.

I’ve never worked with vpr Matrix laptops myself, never heard about this brand before. I don’t know how many people have vpr Matrix laptops but decided to link to this disassembly guide anyway.
The steps are presented in the way that I take it apart… some steps can probably be done in a different order. If your computer is still under warranty and you need something fixed, I would strongly urge you to take it to your dealer/manufacturer first, if possible.

Do you have an Averatec laptop and not sure how to take it apart? Then this guide on taking apart an Averatec 6200 should help you. I’ve never worked with Averatec laptops myself and not sure if all models are engineered the same way, but at least this guide should give you a hint how to tear the whole thing apart.
It had an Ethernet cable plugged into it and this ripped the cable right out and broke the plastic that holds the connector in was broken. We wanted to see if there was a part/model number on the RJ45 connector or the module that houses the RJ45, phone jack, and USB ports to see if it would be possible to order a replacement.
This guide will show you how to fix dead laptop keyboard keys.

I got an Averatec 3250 which had a few keys that died after about two years of usage. After looking on eBay for a replacement keyboard, I decided that I wasn’t going to pay $60-80 for a used replacement keyboard and overpriced shipping, since I lived in Europe. So, I set myself on a quest to find a way to repair the keyboard I already had.
All laptop keyboards are different and taking it apart will require different steps than those shown in the guide, but the main idea will be the same.
Before you start taking apart your failed keyboard, check how much will it cost to buy a new one. Some keyboards are pretty cheap these days.
Here’s another keyboard repair guide. This guides shows how to fix missing keyboard keys.
When I first boot the laptop after the laptop has been off several days, the screen stays lit just long enough to almost complete the windows startup process (not quite reaching the login box). It then goes dark, with a faint image that I can see if the light is shining on it. I then push FN-F8 (CRT/LCD toggle) and it lights up again – for just a few seconds (about long enough to get my hands back on the keyboard in typing position), and it goes dark again. This process can be repeated infinitely until I get tired of it. If I shut down and reboot, the screen doesn’t even stay lit until Windows loads. If, however, I let it sit for a bit (the day, a couple days, whatever) it starts back as I originally described.
Any clues on what to do here?
I accidentally stepped on the LCD screen of a Samsung laptop and now it shows cracked line and dead pixels (black pixels around the lines). From the front of the LCD screen I can’t touch or feel any visible cracks. So does that mean the LCD is broken from within? Also I found it is extremely expensive to buy another LCD screen from anywhere (cost at least 250 euros). Does it have to be the exact LCD model or any 15 inches Samsung LCD is fine? Thanks in advance!
I have an HP notebook that I dropped 2 days ago. It was working perfectly before the drop. The drop was about 2 feet onto concrete and it landed very squarely along the back edge. The symptoms are as follow – a nearly black screen with a faint image – which becomes brighter with reflected light.
I hooked up to my PC screen and everything is working well.
In this case, could it just be the backlight bulb has broken upon impact? Or perhaps something has shaken loose?
The keyboard on my laptop works at boot to type HD password. The keyboard will not work after that. The function key appears to be working. I can mess with screen size and some other function Keys. Some Keys “work”. H Key types “replace”. m and J types enter Key. f types “find”. The space bar and enter Keys work in notepad but only in notepad. m works for enter Key everywhere else. Onscreen Keyboard produces same characters. I am assuming that somehow the keyboard settings changed or shut off the keyboard using the function keys. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
