In this guide I’m taking apart an eMachines 250 netbook.

I’ll show how to remove the hard drive, memory and keyboard.

Before you start taking it apart, make sure the netbook is turned off.

STEP 1.

Remove the battery.

Remove two screws securing the hard drive cover and remove the cover.

Remove one screw securing the memory cover and remove the cover.

Remove one screw securing the WWAN (wireless wide area network) card cover and remove the cover.

eMachinges 250 netbook has a standard 2.5″ SATA hard drive installed.

There is only one memory (RAM) slot.

In my case I didn’t have WWAN card installed.

STEP 2.

Remove one screws securing the hard drive assembly to the netbook case.

STEP 3.

Slide the hard drive towards the battery and disconnect it from the motherboard.

Remove the hard drive assembly.

STEP 4.

If you are replacing or upgrading the hard drive, you’ll have to transfer the mounting bracket (caddy) to the new drive.

Simply remove four screws securing the caddy (two from each side) and separate it from the hard drive.

Again, in my eMachines netbook I had a regular 2.5″ notebook SATA hard drive.

Any large SATA hard drive should work fine in this netbook.

STEP 5.

Spread latches on both sides of the memory slot and the memory module will pop up at a 30 degree angle.

Pull the memory module from the slot by the edges.

REMOVING THE KEYBOARD.

In the following steps I’m explaining how to remove the keyboard. It’s not necessary to go though all previous steps in order to remove the keyboard.

There are four knobs and one spring loaded latch securing the keyboard.

The spring loaded latch located above the F8 key.

STEP 6.

Insert a knife blade between the keyboard and nebook base and lift up the left side of the keyboard.

Push the keyboard through small knobs on the left side.

STEP 7.

While lifting up the keyboard, push on the spring loaded latch with a sharp object and release the keyboard.

STEP 8.

Lift up the keyboard.

STEP 9.

Place the keyboard so you can access the cable connector underneath.

STEP 10.

Before you can remove the cable, you’ll have to unlock the connector.

On the following picture the keyboard connector shown in the locked position.

To unlock the connector, move the brown clip about 2 millimeters towards the LCD screen.

Works slowly. Do not apply too much force to the clip.

The brown clip must stay attached to the white base.

On the following picture the keyboard connector shown in the unlocked position.

As you see, the brown clip still attached to the base.

Now you can remove the ribbon cable from the connector.

STEP 11.

Finally, remove the keyboard and replace it with a new one if needed.

You can search for a new keyboard by one of the part numbers printed on the sticker.

Here’s wide selection of replacement keyboards for eMachines 250 netbooks.

The keyboard has been removed.

Here you get some limited access to the cooling fan. If the fan is dusty, you can blow it off using canned air.

In this post I explain how to remove and replace damaged LCD screen in a LG XNote laptop.

Also, this guide can help you to access and replace the screen inverter board.

I’m taking apart a LG XNote S210 laptop but I think this guide will fit many other models in the XNote line.

Please mention the laptop model number in comments below if it works for you.

Make sure the laptop is turned off and the battery removed.

STEP 1.

You’ll find four screw covers on the LCD screen bezel.

There are two black covers in the top left and right corners and two silver covers in the bottom left and right corners.

You can remove all covers with a sharp object.

On the following picture I’m removing one of the top covers.

On the next picture I’m removing one of the bottom covers.

You can glue screw covers somewhere on the bezel so they don’t get lost.

When all covers removed, remove four screws securing the screen bezel.

STEP 2.

Insert your fingers between the bezel and LCD screen and start separating the bezel.

STEP 3.

Continue removing the bezel.

STEP 4.

The screen bezel has been removed.

STEP 5.

Now you can access the screen inverter board located below the screen.

The inverter board works as a power supply for the backlight lamp inside the LCD screen.

If your LCD screen suddenly has become very dark but you still can see a very faint image, most likely the problem is related to the inverter board.

There are two cables connected to the inverter board.

On the left side the inverter board connected to the video cable.

On the right side the inverter board connected to the screen backlight lamp.

STEP 6.

Separate inverter board from the display cover and disconnect the left cable (LCD backlight lamp).

STEP 7.

There are four screws securing the LCD screen to the hinge brackets. Two screws on the left side and two more on the right.

Remove screws from both sides of the screen.

STEP 8.

Disconnect the webcam cable.

STEP 9.

Now you should be able to separate the LCD screen assembly from the display cover.

Place LCD screen face down on the keyboard.

STEP 10.

Remove sticky tape securing the video cable to the LCD screen.

STEP 11.

Disconnect video cable from the LCD screen.

STEP 12.

Now you can remove and replace the LCD screen.

If you need a new screen for your LG XNote laptop you can find it here. Just search by the laptop model number or screen model number.

In my laptop the LCD screen has the following model number: LTD121EXVV.

In the following guide I explain how to remove the keyboard from an Alienware D9T gaming notebook. I think this notebook has a different name, something like Alienware Area but I couldn’t find it anywhere. The only name I found was Model: D9T. Pleas let me know if this guide works for your Alienware notebook and mention the model name in the comments below.

First of all, turn off the notebook, unplug the AC adapter and remove the battery. Make sure you work in static free environment.

Removing the keyboard from this notebook was easier than I expected.

There are four small latches securing the keyboard, I pointed them with four arrows.

Carefully release latches one by one with a sharp object, you can use a small flat head screwdriver. When you push on the latch, the keyboard will lift up a little bit and the latch will stay open.

After all four latches are open, lift up the top side of the keyboard.

Place the keyboard so you can access the cable connector. Before you remove the keyboard cable from the connector, you’ll have to open the connector.

WARNING! Be very careful with the keyboard cable connector. The connector is soldered to the motherboard and if you accidentally break it, you will have to replace the WHOLE MOTHERBOARD or use the notebook with an external keyboard.

On the picture below you can see the connector in LOCKED state. The white clip opens like a laptop display.

On the next picture you can see the same connector in UNLOCKED state.

Now you can pull the cable from the connector and remove the keyboard.

If you want to replace the keyboard, you’ll have to search for a new one using the part number or model number from the sticker on the bottom side of the original keyboard. You can find cheap keyboards here.

In my case I had the following numbers.
Keyboard model number: MP-03753US-4302
Keyboard part number: 80-D90T0-011-1

This guide is applicable to the Fujitsu LifeBook T4210, T4215, and the T4220 as these models all use the same chassis

The main idea of the tutorial is getting an access to the cooling module – heatsink and cooling fan. The cooling module is hidden inside the laptop so you’ll have to take the whole thing apart.

Remove two screws securing the cooling fan, unplug fan cable from the motherboard and remove the fan. Now you can replace it with a new one.

While you are inside the laptop, it would be a good idea to apply new thermal grease on the processor.

This step-by-step guide explains how to replace the keyboard in a Fujitsu LifeBook S2110 laptop.

The keyboard removal process is very similar to many other laptop brands.
1. Remove screws securing the keyboard.
2. Remove keyboard bezel.
3. Unplug keyboard cable from the connector on the motherboard.

A word of caution. Be very careful with the connector on the motherboard when you unlock it in the step 13. If you accidentally break the connector, you’ll have to replace the whole motherboard.

You can find a new keyboard for your Fujitsu S2110 laptop here.

How to navigate the disassembly guide: To be honest, the site navigation system is weird. You’ll have to press “P” to get to the next step and press “O” to go back. The navigation has been fixed.
Anyways, the keyboard removal instructions are pretty clear. The complete laptop disassembly instructions are available too.

It’s possible that this guide will work for some other Amilo laptops with the same case.

If your laptop shuts off on its own without any warning most likely it happens because of processor overheating. The processor overheat because of dust buildup between the fan and heatsink. If that’s the case, cleaning the cooling fan and heatsink will fix the problem.

In order to access the cooling module you’ll have to remove the keyboard. It’s not difficult, simply remove the plastic bezel above the keyboard and then unscrew the keyboard. The cooling module is located under the metal plate under the the keyboard.

You can clean the cooling module with compressed air without removing the cooling fan. Simply spray air inside the fan until there is no dust inside the heatsink.

Also, you can replace thermal compound between the heat sink and processor.

This guide will help you take apart a Fujitsu LifeBook V series notebook. It will show how you can remove the hard drive, memory modules, DVD drive and keyboard. Also, I’ll show how you can clean the heat sink. I have created this guide while taking apart a Fujitsu LifeBook V1010.
The badge on the front said “LIFEBOOK V Series” so I assume this guide should work for other modes in the LifeBook V line.

STEP 1
First of all, remove the battery. When the battery is installed, you cannot remove the hard drive cover.

STEP 2
Remove one screw securing the hard drive cover. Slide the cover to the the right site and remove it.

STEP 3
Remove two screws securing the hard drive caddy. Slide the whole assembly to the left and remove it from the laptop. If you are replacing the hard drive, you’ll have to transfer caddy to the new drive.

STEP 4
Remove one screw securing the memory cover. Remove the cover.

STEP 5
Now you can remove both memory modules. Spread latches on both side of the memory slot until the memory module pops up at a 30 degree angle. Remove the memory module by the edges, do not touch chips.

STEP 6
Remove two screws securing the CD/DVD drive. Push the CD/DVD drive from the laptop with your finger. Remove the drive.

STEP 7
This cover gives you an easy access to the laptop cooling module.
If your laptop runs hot and shuts down without any worning, probably it’s heat realated problem. Most likely the heat sink is clogged with dust and because of that the CPU overheats and the laptop shuts down.

STEP 8
Remove the cover. You can clean the cooling module with compressed air. Spray air inside the openig until there is no dust inside the heat sink. That’s an easy way to fix laptop overheating problem.

STEP 9
Now we are going to remove the keyboard. In order to remove and replace the keyboard, you don’t have to go through steps 2-8. Remove the battery and then jump to the step 10.

STEP 10
Start removing the keyboad bezel with a sharp object, you can use a smal flathead screwdriver. Lift up the right side of the bezel (move 1) and then slide it to the right (move 2).

STEP 11
Remove the keyboard bezel.

STEP 12
Now lift up the keyboard. There are no screws securing the keyboard. Place the keyboard upside down on the palm rest. Be careful, the keyboard is still attached to the motherboard.

STEP 13
Unlock the keyboard connector on the motherboard as it shown on the picture above. Pull the keyboard cable from the connector.
WARNING! If you break the connector, you’ll have to replace the whole motherboard (or use an external USB keyboard).

This guide will help you to replace memory modules in a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo L7300 laptop. In this laptop both memory slots are located under the keyboard, so it will be necessary to remove the keyboard first.

Memory replacement instructions:

STEP 1. Unplug the power adapter and remove the battery.
STEP 2. Using a sharp object, lift up one side of the keyboard bezel (power button cover). You can use a small flathead screwdriver.
STEP 3. Continue removing the keyboard bezel with your fingers.
STEP 4. After the keyboard bezel is removed you can remove the keyboard. Most likely the keyboard is secured to the laptop case by a screw/screws on the top (it’s not shown on the picture). Remove all screws securing the keyboard and carefully lift it up. Be careful because the keyboard is attached to the motherboard. Before you remove the keyboard, you’ll have to unlock the connector and release the keyboard cable. Very carefully lift up the brown clip on the connector and release the keyboard cable. WARNING! Do not separate the brown clip from the connector, just lift it up a little bit, maybe 1-2 millimeters. The brown clip is permanently attached to the connector and it has to stay attached as it shown on the picture 5. If you accidentally break the keyboard connector you’ll have to replace the whole motherboard.
STEP 5. Both memory slots are located under the metal cover on the left side. Remove screws securing the cover. Remover the cover.
STEP 6. Now you can remove, replace or upgrade the memory module. This laptop can handle 1GB RAM total, up to 512MB in each slot. You should use PC2700 DDR333 memory modules.

Using this guide you also can access laptop fan, heatsink, processor, and wireless card. If the cooling fan looks dirty, you can clean it up with compressed air.

I got an Averatec 3250 which had a few keys that died after about two years of usage. After looking on eBay for a replacement keyboard, I decided that I wasn’t going to pay $60-80 for a used replacement keyboard and overpriced shipping, since I lived in Europe. So, I set myself on a quest to find a way to repair the keyboard I already had.
All laptop keyboards are different and taking it apart will require different steps than those shown in the guide, but the main idea will be the same.

Before you start taking apart your failed keyboard, check how much will it cost to buy a new one. Some keyboards are pretty cheap these days.
Here’s another keyboard repair guide. This guides shows how to fix missing keyboard keys.
