This guide will help you to replace the keyboard on a Toshiba Tecra M4 series laptops. It’s not difficult at all and you can easily do this repair at home, without taking the laptop to a repair shop.
The author of the disassembly guide published basic disassembly instructions for the whole laptop but for the keyboard replacement you’ll have to check out pictures 9-12.
First of all, remove the laptop battery and unplug it from the AC adapter.
For the keyboard replacement you will not have to remove anything from the bottom of the laptop, not a single screw.

This guide explains how you can take apart a Toshiba Satellite 1900 or 1905 laptop. Very good step-by-step instructions with detailed pictures.

Here are the most common reasons to disassemble this laptop:

1. Replacing the memory module. Toshiba Satellite 1900/1905 series laptops have two memory slots. One of them could be easily accessed through the bottom of the laptop. Another one is hidden under the top cover and that’s where the memory module is installed at the factory.
Let’s say the memory module installed into the hidden slot has failed. In this case, if you want to replace it yourself, you’ll have to go through all steps in the disassembly guide and remove the top cover.
This laptop can take up to 512MB SDRAM PC133, up to 256MB RAM stick in each slot.

Is your Toshiba laptop asking for the BIOS password even though you didn’t set up the password? Most likely this is Toshiba’s fault.
Here’s very interesting information I found on Toshiba website. They posted this information in Support Bulletins.

The computer models listed above may display a “Password =” prompt when the computer is turned on, even though no power-on password has been set. If this happens, there is no password that will satisfy the password request. If the computer is turned off and back on again, it is very likely that the same password prompt will appear. The computer will be unusable until this problem is fixed.

If the problem has not happened yet, you can prevent it from happening in the future by upgrading the BIOS to the newest version.

The occurrence of this problem on any particular computer is unpredictable — it may never happen, but it could happen any time that the computer is turned on. If this problem does occur, it will be necessary to send the computer to a Toshiba Authorized Service Provider, who will fix the problem at no charge to you.

This illustrated guide explains how you can replace the optical drive (CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD-RW) on a Toshiba Satellite A50 or A55 laptop. Both models are the same, so disassembly steps will be the same too.

Make sure that front panel of new DVD-ROM / DVD-RW (next will be mentioned as DVD-ROM) is approximately similar to old one.

I would say it has to be exactly the same, not just approximately similar. Even though all front panels look the same, they might be different mounting point, so make sure the new drive comes with the front panel.

With this tutorial you can replace the cooling fan in your Toshiba Portege A100 laptop. Disassembly steps for this laptop are a different then for any other Toshiba because this laptop has no screws on the bottom and you’ll have to start taking it apart from the top.

This blog explains how you can clean a Toshiba Satellite P10 or P15 laptop cooling module – heat sink and fan. The blog is not in English so I’ll ad a few comments.
If your laptop runs hot, the fan speed is high all the time or the laptop shuts down without any reason, check the cooling module. The laptop shuts down because it overheats. Most likely you’ll find that the heat sink is clogged with dust and has to be cleaned up.
For cleaning a Satellite P10/P15 laptop you’ll need:
1. Small Philips screwdriver
2. Torx 8 screwdriver
3. Can of compressed air
4. New thermal compound

It’s possible that your Toshiba Satellite A105 laptop can set the BIOS password by itself, without asking you. One day you turn on the laptop and it starts asking for the BIOS password even hough you had never set it up. What’s wrong? How can you fix the problem?
Just for your information, removing the CMOS (RTC) battery will not erase the BIOS password on this model. Don’t even try it, you’ll fail.

These instructions explain how you can clear the BIOS password from older Toshiba laptops.
The article is written in German so I’ll ad some comments in English.
In order to clear the BIOS password you’ll have to create a plug for the laptop parallel port. You can make the plug from a parallel port connector for printers, known as DB25. Find an old parallel port connector, take it apart and solder pins inside the connector as described below.
Solder the following pins together:
Pins 1,5,10
Pins 2,11
Pins 3,17
Pins 4,12
Pins 6,16
Pins 7,13
Pins 8,14
Pins 9,15
Pins 18 through 25. The article says connect pin 18 to 25 but on my plug I connected pins 18,19,20, 21,22,23,24,25 together and it works great.
After all needed pins were connected, assemble the connector.
