In this post I explain how to replace LCD screen on Lenovo G560 laptop.

My Lenovo G560 laptop had an LED-backlit LCD screen installed. I’ll explain how to search for a compatible replacement LCD screen at the end of this post.

Before you start laptop disassembly make sure it’s turned off and battery removed.

STEP 1.

You’ll have to remove six screw covers located on the screen bezel.

Two covers on the lower part of the bezel and four more covers on the upper part of the bezel.

You can remove screw covers with a sharp object.

After all covers removed, remove six screws securing the screen bezel to the LCD back cover.

STEP 2.

Insert your fingers between the screen bezel and LCD back cover as it shown on the following picture.

Wiggle the bezel a little bit and start separating it from the back cover.

There are hidden plastic latches securing the bezel.

STEP 3.

Continue separating the bezel on the display sides.

You can use a small piece of soft plastic for that. Insert it between the bezel and back cover and slowly move along the side. At the same time continue removing the bezel with your fingers.

STEP 4.

The screen bezel has been removed.

STEP 5.

Carefully separate the LCD screen from the back cover so you can access screws on the side.

These screws securing the LCD screen to the mounting bracket.

Remove four screw on the right side of the display and then form more screws on the left side.

STEP 6.

Separate the LCD screen from the back cover and place it face down on the keyboard.

STEP 7.

Now you can access the video cable which is plugged into the screen.

STEP 8.

Remove sticky tape securing the connection.

Unplug the video cable connector from the LCD screen as it shown on the following picture.

STEP 9.

Now you should be able to remove the LCD screen from the laptop and replace it with a new one.

The best way to find a new compatible LED LCD screen would be searching by the model number from the back of the screen.

My Lenovo G560 laptop had the following LCD screen installed: model No: B156XW02 v.2

If your laptop has a different screen installed, just search by the model number as I did.

In this guide I will show how to replace broken screen on a Lenovo ThinkPad T410 laptop.

Most likely this guide will work for some other ThinkPad models. If it works for you please mention the model number in comments after the post.

Lenovo ThinkPad T410 laptop comes with LED-backlit LCD screen. I explain how to find a new replacement screen at the end of the guide.

Before you start, make sure the laptop turned off and battery removed.

STEP 1.

Remove screw cover from the lower left corner of the screen bezel.

Remove both screws located under the cover.

STEP 2.

Do the same with the lower right corner.

STEP 3.

Start separating the screen bezel from the screen back cover.

Insert a piece of soft plastic between the bezel and cover and wiggle it a little bit.

At the same time insert your fingers between the bezel and screen and wiggle the bezel.

The screen bezel secured to the screen cover via many hidden plastic latches.

STEP 4.

Continue separating the bezel on the top of the display cover.

After that move to the lower part.

STEP 5.

The screen bezel has been removed.

STEP 6.

Remove two screw securing the screen brackets to the back cover.

STEP 7.

Separate screen from the cover and place it face down on the palm rest assembly.

STEP 8.

Now you can access the back side of the screen and disconnect the video cable.

Remove sticky tape securing the video cable to the LCD screen.

STEP 9.

Unplug the video cable connector from the connector on the screen.

STEP 10.

Now you can remove the LCD screen.

STEP 11.

Finally, remove two screws from the side of the screen.

Transfer the hinge bezel to the new screen.

Do the same with the other side.

It’s very important to find the correct screen for your laptop. Make sure the new screen has same resolution as the original screen.

You can search for a new screen here.

There are two ways:
1. You can search by the laptop model number. In my case the model number is: B141EW05 v.4
2. You can search by the Lenovo FRU number. In my case FRU number is 42T0733.

It’s possible there is more than one screen compatible with your Lenovo ThinkPad T410 laptop.

In this post I explain how to upgrade memory or hard drive on Lenovo G570 laptop.

To be precise, I’m working on a Lenovo G570 (Model Name: 4334).

Also, at the end of the post I show how to remove and replace the cooling fan.

Make sure the laptop is turned off before you start disassembly.

STEP 1.

Remove laptop battery.

Loosen four screws securing the cover on the bottom.

STEP 2.

Lift up and remove the cover.

STEP 3.

Remove two screws securing the hard drive.

STEP 4.

Slide the hard drive to the left to disconnect it from the motherboard.

Lift up and remove the hard drive.

STEP 5.

You’ll have to transfer the mounting bracket and aluminum hard drive shield to the new hard drive.

NOTE: I don’t think you’ll need to transfer the shield if upgrading to a solid-state drive (SSD).

Remove two screws on each side of the hard drive and remove the mounting bracket.

Carefully pill off the aluminum shield.

Lenovo G570 laptop has a regular 2.5″ SATA hard drive installed.

You can upgrade this drive to any other large capacity 2.5″ SATA hard drive or 2.5″ SSD (solid-state drive) which is more expensive but fast and quiet.

I prefer to use known brand SSDs, such as Crucial, Kingston, OCZ.

After replacing the hard drive you’ll have to reinstall the operating system.

STEP 6.

Both memory modules can be accessed on the bottom of the laptop.

In order to remove the memory module you’ll have to spread latches on both sides of the memory slot.

STEP 7.

The memory module will pop up at a 30 degree angle.

STEP 8.

Carefully pull the memory module from the slot buy the edges.

Use same technique to remove the second memory module.

Lenovo G570 (Model Name: 4334) can take up to 8GB RAM.

You can install up to 4GB RAM module into each slot.

Memory used: PC3-10600 DDR3 SDRAM SODIMM 204 pin.

NOTE: your laptop has to run a 64-bit OS to be able to use all 8GB RAM.

REMOVING COOLING FAN.

If the cooling fan started making noise, it can be easily remove and replaced.

In order to remove the fan you’ll have to disconnect one cable from the motherboard and remove three screws.

After that lift up and remove the fan.

If the heat sink is clogged with dust, you can clean it with compressed air.

In this guide I explain how to remove and replace keyboard on a Lenovo ThinkPad T410s laptop.

The guide also should work for Lenovo ThinkPad T400s and ThinkPad T410si laptops.

My customer spilled water on the keyboard and some keys stopped working. The keyboard had to be replaced.

Make sure the laptop is turned off and battery removed before you start taking it apart.

STEP 1.

Remove one screw securing the memory cover.

Lift up and remove the cover.

STEP 2.

Remove two screws securing the keyboard on the bottom of the laptop.

By the way, in Lenovo ThinkPad T410s laptop both memory slots are located on the bottom.

STEP 5.

Remove the keyboard from the laptop and place it on the palmrest.

Be careful, the keyboard still attached to the motherboard.

Now you can access the keyboard cable connector and unplug it from the motherboard.

STEP 6.

Unplug the connector.

You can find a new replacement keyboard by the Lenovo FRU number (not part number).

New keyboards for Lenovo ThinkPad T410s laptops available here.

Under the keyboard you’ll get limited access to the cooling fan. It should be enough for cleaning the fan and heatsink.

If your laptop runs very hot and shuts down while running multiple programs, most likely it happens because the cooling module is clogged with dust.

Cleaning the cooling module should fix laptop overheating problem.

Simply buy a can of compressed air and spray it into the fan until all dust is gone.

In this post I explain how to take apart a Lenovo ThinkPad Edge laptop.

I’ll show how to:
1. Access laptop memory, hard drive, fan assembly.
2. Remove palmrest/touchpad assembly.
3. Disconnect and remove laptop keyboard.
4. Access wireless card and CMOS battery.

Before you start, make sure the laptop is turned off.

STEP 1.

Remove main battery.

Loosen five screws securing the bottom cover. Under the bottom cover you’ll find laptop memory, hard drive, fan assembly.

STEP 2.

Remove the bottom cover.

The bottom cover removed.

STEP 3.

In order to remove the hard drive, slide it to the right and disconnect from the motherboard.

After that you can lift up and remove the hard drive assembly.

If you are replacing or upgrading the hard drive, you’ll have to transfer the mounting bracket to the new drive.

Lenovo ThinkPad Edge laptop uses a regular 2.5″ SATA hard drive. Any large SATA hard drive should work fine in this laptop.

STEP 4.

The cooling fan is a part of the heatsink assembly.

In order to remove the cooling fan assembly, you’ll have to loosen four screw securing the heatsink and disconnect fan cable from the motherboard.

After that you should be able to lift up and remove the fan assembly. If the cooling fan and heatsink look dusty, blow it off with compressed air.

STEP 5.

Remove one screw securing the DVD drive.

Slide DVD drive to the left and remove it from the laptop.

STEP 6.

I also removed a small cover located in the lower left corner of the laptop base but… I didn’t find anything under this cover.

I think, in some different ThinkPad Edge models there is a WWAN slot located under this cover.

STEP 7.

There are four rubber plugs located on the bottom part of the laptop case.

These plugs hide screws securing the palmrest/touchpad assembly.

You can remove all four plugs with a sharp object.

STEP 8.

Remove six screws securing the palmrest/touchpad assembly.

STEP 9.

You can separate the palmrest assembly from the laptop base with a guitar pick.

Insert the guitar pick between the palmrest and base and slowly move along the side.

STEP 10.

Carefully lift up the palmrest/touchpad assembly and place it upside down on the table.

STEP 11.

Now you can access the touchpad cable which is connected to the motherboard.

In order to unlock the touchpad connector, lift up the brown clip in the direction shown on the following picture.

The connector clip opens up at a 90 degree angle.

Now you can pull the touchpad cable from the connector.

STEP 12.

Remove the palmrest/touchpad assembly.

In the following steps I show how to disconnect and remove the laptop keyboard.

STEP 13.

Remove two screws securing the laptop keyboard on the bottom.

There are three cables connecting the keyboard to the motherboard.

Two connectors are shown on the picture below.
The third connector hidden under the black ribbon cable.

Let’s disconnect all three cables one by one.

STEP 14.

In order to unlock the first connector you’ll have to move the black clip about 2 millimeters to the direction shown by two arrows.

Do not separate the black clip from the white base. On the following picture the connector is shown in the UNLOCKED position. Do not move the black clip any further.

After the connector is unlocked, you can pull the ribbon cable.

STEP 15.

Unlock the second connector same way you unlocked the first one.

Release the second cable.

STEP 16.

As I mentioned earlier, the third keyboard connector located under the black ribbon cable.

Let’s disconnect the third connector.

Move the brown clip in the direction shown by the yellow arrow.

It will open up at a 90 degree angle.

After the connector is unlocked, you can pull the cable.

In this guide I explain how to replace the cooling fan assembly in an IBM ThinkPad T43 laptop. This laptop was starting up with a “Fan error” message indicating the cooling fan failure. The fan is a part of the heat sink assembly and when the fan fails, the whole cooling assembly has to be replaced.

Also you can use this guide for removing and replacing the keyboard and hidden memory module.

Turn off the laptop, unplug the AC adapter and remove the battery.

STEP 1.

Remove three screws securing the keyboard on the bottom of the laptop.

The first memory module can be accessed through the door on the bottom.

It’ not necessary to remove the memory module in order to replace the cooling fan.

STEP 2.

Insert a sharp object between the bottom of the keyboard and palm rest and carefully lift up the keyboard.

Place the keyboard upside down on the palm rest.

STEP 3.

Disconnect the keyboard cable from the motherboard.

STEP 4.

Remove the keyboard.

If you are looking for a new keyboard for an IBM ThinkPad T43, you can find it here.

STEP 5.

The cooling fan assembly is hidden under the palm rest and cannot be removed until the palm rest is removed.

The second memory module is located under the keyboard.

STEP 6.

Now we are going to remove the palm rest.

Remove all marked screws from the bottom of the laptop.

STEP 7.

Disconnect the touchpad cable from the motherboard.

STEP 8.

Start separating the palm rest assembly from the laptop base.

STEP 9.

Remove the palm rest assembly.

STEP 10.

Remove three screws securing the cooling fan assembly.

Disconnect the cooling fan cable from the motherboard.

The cooling fan assembly part number is printed on the label.

STEP 11.

Lift up the right side of the cooling fan assembly.

STEP 12.

Remove the cooling fan assembly.

In order to find a new cooling fan assembly, I would suggest searching by the IBM FRU part number. In my case the part number is 26R7950.

You can buy a new cooling fan assembly here.

STEP 13.

Clean up the CPU and GPU chips with an alcohol swab.

Do not forget to apply fresh thermal grease on the CPU. You don’t have to apply thermal grease on the GPU because it will be covered with thermal pad located on the heat sink.

A new cooling fan assembly should come with thermal grease pre-applied on the heat sink. Also, it comes with thermal pad for the GPU.

In this post I explain how to replace a noisy or failed cooling fan in a Lenovo ThinkPad T61 laptop.

This guide might work for some other Lenovo ThinkPad models. If it works for you, please mention the laptop model number in the comments after the post.

The cooling fan is a part of the heat sink assembly. If the cooling fan fails, the whole heat sink assembly has to be replaced.

It’s possible that you can separate the fan from the heat sink and replace it separately, but in this guide I’m replacing the whole assembly.

Let’s remove the cooling fan assembly and replace it with a new one.

Turn off the laptop, unplug the AC adapter and remove the battery.

STEP 1.

Remove four (red) screws securing the palm rest.

Remove one screw (yellow) securing the keyboard.

STEP 2.

Lift up the palm rest.

STEP 3.

Place the palm rest upside down so you can access the touch pad cable underneath.

STEP 4.

Disconnect the touch pad cable from the motherboard.

By the way, both memory modules are located under the palm rest. If you are replacing or upgrading memory modules, you don’t have to follow the guide any further.

A Lenovo ThinkPad T61 laptop can take up to 4GB RAM total. You can install up to 2GB memory module into each slot. You should use DDR2 PC2-5300 or PC2-6400 memory modules.

STEP 5.

Lift up the keyboard and place it upside down.

STEP 6.

Disconnect the keyboard cable from the motherboard.

In order to disconnect the cable simply lift up the the connector, same way you disconnected the touch pad cable.

If you are replacing the keyboard, you don’t have to follow this guide any further.

You can find a new replacement keyboard by the Lenovo FRU part number printed on the label. In my case the keyboard part number is 42T3209.

Need a new keyboard for your Lenovo ThinkPad? Search here.

STEP 7.

Remove three screws securing the speaker cover.

By the way, the CMOS battery is located under the keyboard.

STEP 8.

Remove two screws securing the speaker cover on the bottom of the laptop.

STEP 9.

Remove the speaker cover.

STEP 10.

Remove four screws securing the cooling fan assembly brackets. Remove both brackets.

I would recommend taking a close up picture of the lower bracket, so you know how the wires are routed. The picture will help you to rout wires correctly when you assemble the laptop back together.

STEP 11.

Remove two screws securing the left speaker.

Disconnect connectors shown by two arrows.

Move the left speaker with cables to the right side, so you can get to the cooling fan assembly.

STEP 12.

Disconnect the cooling fan cable from the motherboard.

Remove four screws securing the cooling fan assembly.

STEP 13.

Lift up the cooling fan assembly as it shown on the picture below.

STEP 14.

Remove the cooling fan assembly from the laptop.

If you are replacing the failed cooling fan assembly with a new one, most likely the heat sink already has thermal grease pre-applied.

On the other hand, if you are installing a refubished cooling fan assembly, you’ll have to apply thermal grease on both chips shown below.

You can search for a replacement cooling fan assembly by the Lenovo FRU number from the failed fan.

The FRU number is printed on the label. In my case, the FRU part number is 42W2460.

You can find a new or used cooling fan assembly here.

Today I will be removing and replacing the LCD screen in an IBM ThinkPad T43p laptop. You can use same set of instructions for ThinkPad T43 and some other IBM (now Lenovo) laptops.

Failure description: the laptop starts with a reddish screen (white color appear to be pink). After a minute or two the backlight goes completely off but you still can see a very faint image on the screen if you look very closely. When you restart the laptop, the screen lights up again but a minute later the light goes off.

Solution: the laptop has a failing backlight lamp which is a part of the LCD screen. The whole screen has to be replaced.

Let’s disassemble the display panel and remove the LCD screen.

STEP 1.

Carefully remove four screw seals from the bottom part of the display bezel.

You can remove them with a sharp object.

Remove all four screws found under the seals.

STEP 2.

Remove three screws (found under seals) from the left side of the display panel.

STEP 3.

Remove four screws (found under seals) from the right side of the display panel.

STEP 4.

The display bezel is glued to the LCD screen with sticky tape. You can separate the bezel using a guitar pick (as I do) or another piece of plastic.
Insert the guitar pick between the display bezel and screen and carefully move it along the side until the bezel is separated.

STEP 5.

Continue removing the display bezel with your fingers.

STEP 6.

The screen inverter is mounted under the bezel and can be replaced without removing the bezel completely. I’ll remove the display bezel because I have to replace the LCD screen.

STEP 7.

The display bezel has been removed.

STEP 8.

In order to confirm the backlight lamp failure I did the following experiment.
I unpluged the LCD screen from the right side of the inveter board and pluged in an known good backlight lamp. After that I turned on the laptop and tested it with my backlight lamp for about 10 minutes. My backlight lamp didn’t turn off and worked fine all time. That means the backlight lamp inside the screen is bad.

If your laptop doesn’t work with a known good backlight lamp, most likely you have a problem with the inverter board.

STEP 9.

Unplug the inverter board from the video cable.
Remove the inverter board.

Do you need a new inverter board? Find a new inverter here.

STEP 10.

Carefully separate the LCD screen from the display cover. Do not forget to release the cable with night lamp. Simply pull the cable from the display cover.

STEP 11.

Now you can access the back side of the LCD screen and unplug the screen cable.

Remove sticky tape securing the connection and pull the cable connector from the LCD screen.

STEP 12.

Remove the LCD screen from the laptop.

The LCD screen has been removed.

Be careful with this piece of plastic. Try not to remove it from the display because it will take some time to figure out how to connect it back together.
I believe this piece of plastic is designed to prevent the screen cable from breaking when you close the display.

STEP 13.

Remove two screws securing the display mounting brackets.
Remove the bracket and move it to a new LCD screen.
Do the same with the bracket on the other side of the screen.

You can find a new LCD screen using two different part numbers from the back side of the defective screen:
1. The model number of the LCD screen. In my laptop it is N150U3-L01
2. FRU part number. In my laptop it is 92P6753.

Looking for a new screen for your IBM ThinkPad T43/T43p laptop? You can find a brand new screen here.

In this guide I explain how to remove the keyboard and replace the launch board (aka button board) in a Lenovo 3000 laptop. As an example I took a Lenovo 3000 v200 laptop but I believe the disassembly steps will be the same or very similar for all models in the 3000 line. If my instructions work for you please mention the laptop model in the comments below.

The launch board is a board with the power and volume control buttons located under the keyboard bezel. I’m replacing the launch board because one of the volume control buttons got stuck in the pressed position and because of that the volume is set to maximum all the time. When I try turning it down, the volume slider goes up by itself. Cleaning the button with alcohol and contact cleaner didn’t help and I decided to replace the board.

Are you looking for a new keyboard for your Lenovo 3000 laptop? Get it here for less than $20.

LAPTOP DISASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS.

First of all, turn off the laptop, unplug the power adapter and remove the battery.

STEP 1.

Insert a small flat head screwdriver between the keyboard bezel and laptop base. Carefully lift up one side of the keyboard bezel.

Continue removing the keyboard bezel with your fingers.

STEP 2.

This guide explains how to remove a broken LCD screen from a Lenovo X60s laptop and replace it with a new LCD screen. The display disassembly procedure will work for some other IBM ThinkPad and Lenovo laptops. If this guide works for your laptop, please mention the model in the comments.

Before you start, please turn off the laptop, unplug the AC adapter and remove the battery.

STEP 1.

There are three screw seals on the bottom of the display bezel. These seals hide three screws securing the display bezel to the display cover.

You’ll have to remove all three screw seals with a sharp object and after that remove three screws.

STEP 2.

There are three screw seals on each side of the display assembly. Remove TWO seals I marked from each side of the display. Remove screws found under those seals.

STEP 3.

Start separating the display bezel from the cover as it shown on the picture below.

Continue separating the bezel.

The inverter board is located below the LCD screen. In order to access and remove the screen inverter it’s not necessary to remove the bezel completely.

Finally, the display bezel has been removed.

STEP 4.

Disconnect the screen backlight cable from the inverter board.

STEP 5.

Now you can separate the LCD screen from the display cover and access the video cable connector on the back of the screen.

STEP 6.

The video cable is plugged into the connector on the LCD controller board. There is clear tape securing the connection. Carefully remove clear tape.

STEP 7.

Unplug the video cable from the LCD screen.

STEP 8.

Now you can remove the broken LCD screen and replace it with a new one. Search for a replacement LCD screen using the FRU part number from the back of the original screen. You can find a cheap replacement screen here.
