Replacing screen on HP G42 or Compaq Presario CQ42

In the following guide I show how to remove and replace the LCD screen on a HP G42 or Compaq Presario CQ42 laptop.

In this particular case I’m removing screen  from a  HP G42-303DX model.

In order to replace the LCD screen it’s necessary to separate the display panel from the base assembly first. Otherwise you will not be able to remove the bezel. Check out my first HP G42 and Compaq Presario CQ42 disassembly guide for the display panel removal instructions (steps 1-27).

OK, let’s assume the display pane has been removed and now we can start taking it apart.

HP 2000 disassembly

In this post I explain how to disassemble HP 2000. I will remove main laptop components and show how to access area under the top cover.

How to disassemble HP Pavilion dm1

Today I show how to disassemble a HP Pavilion dm1 laptop.

I’m working on the following model: HP Pavilion dm1z-4000 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC.

My goal is replacing failed cooling fan which is mounted on the bottom side of the motherboard. It means I’ll have to remove most internal components in order to get access to the fan.

During the disassembly process I’ll go through the following major steps:

STEP 1-7: Removing the bottom cover. Accessing the hard drive, CMOS battery, memory slots.
STEP 8-18: Disconnecting and removing the keyboard.
STEP 19-32: Separating the base assembly from the display. Removing the top cover.
STEP 33-36: Removing the motherboard. Accessing the DC power jack.
STEP 37-38: Disconnecting and removing the cooling fan.

How to disassemble HP Pavilion dv2

In this guide I show how to disassemble a HP Pavilion dv2 model. I’m taking it apart in order to replace the motherboard.

HP Pavilion dv2 motherboard comes with the processor attached to it and the motherboard is not very expensive. If the motherboard failed it might make sense to repair the laptop.

How to replace screen on HP Pavilion dv4

In this guide I show how to replace LCD screen on HP Pavilion dv4 laptop.

HP Pavilion dv4 comes with two different types of screens installed:
1. LCD with CCFL backlight (requires inverter).
2. LCD with LED backlight.

In this guide I’ll be replacing the one with CCFL backlihgt.

Also you can use this guide for replacing LED LCDs but they don’t have inverter boards so you’ll have to skip steps 8 and 9.

How to replace broken screen on HP 2000

In this guide I explain how to replace broken screen on HP 2000 laptop.

In my case it was accidentally damaged and the image disappeared completely.

To be precise, I’m working on an HP 2000-210US model.

I would suggest making some notes during the disassembly process about screw locations. Some screws have different length. Your notes will be helpful when you assemble everything back together.
