<p><span style="color: #ff0000;"><strong>Removing hard drive, memory modules, wireless card and CMOS battery shown in steps 1-7.</strong></span></p>
<p><strong> </strong><strong>STEP 1.</strong></p>
<p>Remove the battery.</p>
<p>Remove five screws securing the hard drive and memory covers. Remove both covers.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove memory hard drive covers" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-Pavilion-dm3/notebook-disassembly-02.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 2.</strong></p>
<p>Remove two screws securing the hard drive and slide it to the left to disconnect from the motherboard.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Disconnect hard drive" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-Pavilion-dm3/notebook-disassembly-03.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 3.</strong></p>
<p>Now you can remove the hard drive.</p>
<p>As you see, it&#8217;s a standard 2.5&#8243; SATA hard drive.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove hard drive" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-Pavilion-dm3/notebook-disassembly-04.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 4.</strong></p>
<p>Remove both memory modules.</p>
<p>In order to remove the memory module you&#8217;ll have to follow two simple steps:<br />
- carefully spread lathes on both sides of the slot until the memory module pops up at a 30 degree angle.<br />
- pull the memory module from the slot by the edges.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove memory" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-Pavilion-dm3/notebook-disassembly-05.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 5.</strong></p>
<p>Disconnect both antenna cables from the wireless card.</p>
<p>Remove two screws securing the wireless card.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Disconnect antenna cables from wireless card" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-Pavilion-dm3/notebook-disassembly-06.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 6.</strong></p>
<p>Remove wireless card same way you removed memory modules.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove wireless card" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-Pavilion-dm3/notebook-disassembly-07.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 7.</strong></p>
<p>Disconnect the CMOS battery cable from the motherboard and remove the battery.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Disconnect CMOS battery" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-Pavilion-dm3/notebook-disassembly-08.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><span style="color: #ff0000;"><strong>Removing notebook keyboard shown in steps 8-12.</strong></span></p>
<p><strong>STEP 8.</strong></p>
<p>Remove two screws securing the keyboard on the bottom of notebook.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove keyboard screws" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-Pavilion-dm3/notebook-disassembly-09.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 9.</strong></p>
<p>Push on the keyboard through the openings in the battery compartment.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Push on keyboard" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-Pavilion-dm3/notebook-disassembly-10.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 10.</strong></p>
<p>Lift up the keyboard as it shown on the following picture.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Lift up keyboard" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-Pavilion-dm3/notebook-disassembly-11.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 11.</strong></p>
<p>Carefully lift up the keyboard and access connector underneath.</p>
<p>In order to remove the keyboard you&#8217;ll have to disconnect the cable first.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Access keyboard connector" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-Pavilion-dm3/notebook-disassembly-12.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>On the following picture the keyboard connector shown in the locked position.</p>
<p>Lift up the right side of the brown clip so it opens at a 90 degree angle.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Keyboad connector locked" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-Pavilion-dm3/notebook-disassembly-13.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>On the following picture the connector is shown in the unlocked position.</p>
<p>Now you can pull the keyboard cable from the connector.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Keyboard connector unlocked" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-Pavilion-dm3/notebook-disassembly-14.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 12.</strong></p>
<p>Remove the keyboard.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove keyboard" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-Pavilion-dm3/notebook-disassembly-15.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>The best way to find a replacement keyboard is searching by the HP part number.</p>
<p>In my case I had two different HP part numbers on the keyboard: 580687-001 and 573148-001. I guess both part numbers are compatible.</p>
<p>If you need a replacement keyboard for HP Pavilion dm3 notebook, <a rel="nofollow" href="http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?ff3=4&amp;pub=5574673312&amp;toolid=10001&amp;campid=5335918710&amp;customid=Pavilion+dm3+keyboard&amp;mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fshop.ebay.com%2Fi.html%3F_nkw%3DHP%2Bdm3%2Bkeyboard%26_sacat%3D0%26_odkw%3DPavilion%2Bdm3%2Bkeyboard%26_osacat%3D0%26_trksid%3Dp3286.c0.m270.l1313" target="_blank">you can find it here</a>.</p>

<p><span style="color: #ff0000;"><strong>Removing notebook top cover and cooling fan shown in steps 13-18.</strong></span></p>
<p><strong>STEP 13.</strong></p>
<p>Remove marked screws form the bottom of the notebook.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove screws from notebook bottom" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-Pavilion-dm3/notebook-disassembly-17.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 14.</strong></p>
<p>Remove six screws securing the top cover assembly.</p>
<p>Disconnect the top cover cable (left arrow) and touch pad cable (bottom arrow).</p>
<p>On some HP Pavilion dm3 models you&#8217;ll have to disconnect one more cable &#8211; the Bluetooth module cable.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Disconnect top cover" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-Pavilion-dm3/notebook-disassembly-18.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>On the following picture you can see the top cover cable disconnected.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Top cover cable disconnected" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-Pavilion-dm3/notebook-disassembly-19.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>On the following picture you can see how to open the touch pad cable connector.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Touch pad connector unlocked" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-Pavilion-dm3/notebook-disassembly-20.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 15.</strong></p>
<p>Start separating the top cover assembly from the notebook base.</p>
<p>You can use a thin piece of plastic (I&#8217;m using guitar pick) as a case cracker.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Lift up top cover assembly" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-Pavilion-dm3/notebook-disassembly-21.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 16.</strong></p>
<p>The top cover assembly has been removed.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove top cover assembly" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-Pavilion-dm3/notebook-disassembly-22.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>On the following picture the notebook shown with the top cover removed.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Top cover removed" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-Pavilion-dm3/notebook-disassembly-23.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 17.</strong></p>
<p>Remove two screws securing the cooling fan.</p>
<p>Disconnect the fan cable from the motherboard.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Disconnect cooling fan" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-Pavilion-dm3/notebook-disassembly-24.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 18.</strong></p>
<p>Remove the cooling fan.</p>
<p>The cooling fan part number is printed on the white sticker. In my case the part number is: 580696-001</p>
<p>If you need a replacement fan for HP Pavilion dm3 notebook, <a rel="nofollow" href="http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?ff3=4&amp;pub=5574673312&amp;toolid=10001&amp;campid=5335918710&amp;customid=Pavilion+dm3+fan&amp;mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fshop.ebay.com%2Fi.html%3F_nkw%3DHP%2Bdm3%2Bfan%26_sacat%3D0%26_odkw%3DHP%2Bdm3%2Bfan%26_osacat%3D0%26_trksid%3Dp3286.c0.m270.l1313" target="_blank">you can find it here</a>.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove cooling fan" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-Pavilion-dm3/notebook-disassembly-25.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>By the way, in HP Pavilion dm3 notebook the power jack is not soldered to the motherboard. The jack attached to the power harness.</p>
<p>When the power jack fails, you can disconnect the failed jack harness from the motherboard and replace it with a new one.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Notebook power jack" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-Pavilion-dm3/notebook-disassembly-26.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>

<p><strong>STEP 14.</strong></p>
<p>After I disconnected the LCD cable, I found that there is one more cable running from the display panel to the power switch board.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s easier to disconnect the cable from the power switch board if you remove the board first.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Disconnect power switch cable" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/Compaq-Presario-V6000/laptop-disassembly-17.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 15.</strong></p>
<p>Remove one screw securing the power switch board, lift up the board and turn it over.</p>

<p><strong>STEP 20.</strong></p>
<p>Remove six screws securing the motherboard assembly.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove screws securing motherboard" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/Compaq-Presario-V6000/laptop-disassembly-25.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 21.</strong></p>
<p>Lift up the right side of the motherboard and disconnect the PC card slot.</p>

<p><strong>STEP 22.</strong></p>
<p>Remove the motherboard from the laptop base. Do not forget to disconnect the audio board cable on the front.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Disconnect audio cable" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/Compaq-Presario-V6000/laptop-disassembly-27.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 23.</strong></p>
<p>Turn the motherboard upside down and disconnect two more cables underneath.</p>
<p>Those are the power cable and USB cable.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Disconnect power cable" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/Compaq-Presario-V6000/laptop-disassembly-28.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 24.</strong></p>
<p>Remove the motherboard from the base.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove laptop motherboard" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/Compaq-Presario-V6000/laptop-disassembly-29.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>

<p><strong>STEP 25.</strong></p>
<p>Loosen four screws securing the heat sink assembly.</p>
<p>Disconnect the cooling fan cable from the motherboard.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Loosen screws on heatsink assembly" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/Compaq-Presario-V6000/laptop-disassembly-31.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 26.</strong></p>
<p>Lift up the cooling module assembly.</p>
<p>Now you can access the processor (CPU).</p>
<p>If you need spare parts for your Compaq Presario v6000 laptop, you can <a href="http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?ff3=4&amp;pub=5574673312&amp;toolid=10001&amp;campid=5335918710&amp;customid=Compaq+Presavio+v6000+parts&amp;mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fshop.ebay.com%2F%3F_from%3DR40%26_trksid%3Dp3907.m38.l1313%26_nkw%3DCompaq%2BPresario%2Bv6000%26_sacat%3DSee-All-Categories" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">find them on eBay</a>.</p>

<p><strong>HP KNOWS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM:</strong></p>
<p>HP knows about this problem with dv2000, dv6000 and dv9000 notebooks. Some qualified models HP fixes at no charge by replacing the motherboard.</p>
<p>Read more about <a title="Free HP notebook repair" href="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/free-repair-hp-pavilion-compaq-presario-laptops-out-of-warranty/" target="_self">HP Limited Warranty Service Enhancement program</a>. There is a chance you get a free repair from HP.</p>
<p>If not, you&#8217;ll have to fix the notebook at your own expense.</p>
<p>Basically you have two options:</p>
<p>1. Replace the whole motherboard with a new one.</p>
<p>2. Fix the failed video chip as it shown on the video.</p>
<p>As an example the author is fixing an HP Pavilion dv9000 notebook but same technique can be used on HP Pavilion dv2000 and dv6000.</p>

<p>For the video chip repair you&#8217;ll need aluminum foil, new thermal compound (thermal grease) and <a rel="nofollow" href="http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?ff3=4&amp;pub=5574673312&amp;toolid=10001&amp;campid=5335918710&amp;customid=Hand+flame+torch&amp;mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fshop.ebay.com%2Fi.html%3F_nkw%3Dhand%2Bflame%2Btorch%26_sacat%3D0%26_trksid%3Dp3286.m270.l1313%26_dmpt%3DUS_Flashlights%26_odkw%3Dhand%2Btorch%26_osacat%3D0%26bkBtn%3D1" target="_blank">hand soldering flame torch</a>.</p>
<p>I haven&#8217;t tried this fix myself but according to the video it should work pretty well. Proceed at your own risk! If you are not careful enough, you can permanently damage the motherboard..</p>

<p>In this guide I explain how to access and replace the web camera in HP Compaq 6730s and 6735s notebooks.</p>
<p>The web camera is mounted inside the display panel above the LCD screen. In order to access and replace the web camera it&#8217;s necessary to disassemble the display panel.</p>
<p><span id="more-892"></span></p>
<p><script type="text/javascript"><!--
google_ad_client = "pub-5093339941473059";
/* IML-InPost-336x280, created 5/14/09 */

google_ad_height = 280;
// --></script><br />
<script src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js" type="text/javascript"></script></p>
<p>Let&#8217;s start. First of all turn off the notebook and remove the battery.</p>
<p><strong>STEP 1. </strong></p>
<p>There are four screws securing the LCD bezel on the top of the display panel. These screws are hidden under four covers.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove screw covers from screen bezel" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-Compaq-6730s-6735s-display/remove-replace-web-camera-02.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>Remove all four covers with a sharp object and remove four screws found under those covers.</p>
<p>Screw covers have a sticky bottom. Glue them somewhere on the bezel so they don&#8217;t get lost.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove screws from bezel" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-Compaq-6730s-6735s-display/remove-replace-web-camera-03.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 2.</strong></p>
<p>Start separating the LCD bezel from the display cover with your fingers. A guitar pick is very helpful and works great as a case cracker.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Separate screen bezel from display cover" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-Compaq-6730s-6735s-display/remove-replace-web-camera-04.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 3.</strong></p>
<p>Separate the LCD bezel from the display cover and access the web camera module.</p>
<p>The web camera is attached to the display cover with double sided tape.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Access web camera" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-Compaq-6730s-6735s-display/remove-replace-web-camera-05.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 4.</strong></p>
<p>Carefully remove the web camera module and disconnect the cable on the right side.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove web camera" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-Compaq-6730s-6735s-display/remove-replace-web-camera-06.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 5. </strong></p>
<p>Now you can replace the web camera module with a new one.</p>
<p>In my laptop (HP Compaq 6735s) I used a new web camera with the following HP part number: 494110-001</p>
<p>Before the repair the web camera couldn&#8217;t start. Reinstalling the operating system and webcam driver didn&#8217;t help.</p>
<p>As soon as I replaced the web camera module, it started properly.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Replace web camera" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-Compaq-6730s-6735s-display/remove-replace-web-camera-07.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>REMOVING LCD SCREEN </strong></p>
<p>By the way, if you would like to disassemble the display panel and remove the LCD screen, you&#8217;ll have to remove four more screws on the bottom (hidden under four covers).</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Screw covers on bottom" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-Compaq-6730s-6735s-display/remove-replace-web-camera-08.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>Unfortunately, you can remove the LCD bezel completely only when the display panel is separated from the notebook base.</p>
<p>In order to separate the display panel, follow steps 1-9 in this <a title="HP Compaq 6730s 6735s guide" href="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/disassemble-hp-compaq-6730s-6735s-notebook-remove-cooling-fan/" target="_self">HP Compaq 6730s and 6735s guide</a>.</p>

<p><img class="alignnone" title="Two screws in DVD drive bay" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-Pavilion-dv7/disassemble-notebook-07.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 6.</strong></p>
<p>Start separating the speaker cover from the notebook base.</p>
<p>You can use a guitar pick as a case cracker. Insert the guitar pick between the speaker cover and case and slowly move along the side.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Separate speaker cover" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-Pavilion-dv7/disassemble-notebook-08.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>

<p>Well&#8230; I broke the connector. I removed thousands of laptop keyboards before but I broke this connector!</p>
<p>As you see, the left pin on the brown clip is missing.</p>
<p>No panic! I still can use this clip to lock the connector.</p>
<p>You&#8217;ll find more info here: <a title="How to fix broken keyboard connector" href="http://www.laptoprepair101.com/laptop/2009/11/17/fix-broken-keyboard-connector-on-laptop-motherboard/" target="_blank">Fixing damaged keyboard connector on a laptop motherboard</a>.</p>

<p><strong>STEP 22.</strong></p>
<p>Remove the motherboard from the notebook base.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove motherboard" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-Pavilion-dv7/disassemble-notebook-27.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>On the opposite side of the motherboard you can access the processor (CPU) when the heat sink is removed.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove heat sink access CPU" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-Pavilion-dv7/disassemble-notebook-28.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>The motherboard is dead? Check out these <a rel="nofollow" href="http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?ff3=4&amp;pub=5574673312&amp;toolid=10001&amp;campid=5335918710&amp;customid=dv7+motherboard+repair&amp;mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fshop.ebay.com%2Fi.html%3F_nkw%3Ddv7%2Bmotherboard%2Brepair%26_sacat%3D0%26_trksid%3Dp3286.m270.l1313%26_dmpt%3DLaptops_Nov05%26_odkw%3DCQ50%2Bmotherboard%2Brepair%26_osacat%3D0%26bkBtn%3D1" target="_blank">motherboard repair offers</a>.</p>
<p>By the way, the best way to find a replacement motherboard is searching by the HP part number. The part number should be located on a sticker in the memory compartment. The HP part number looks like XXXXXX-001.</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s the notebook base without motherboard.</p>
<p>The USB board, audio board, cooling fan and DC-IN jack are mounted on the base.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Notebook base assembly" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-Pavilion-dv7/disassemble-notebook-29.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>In order to remove the cooling fan, simply remove two screws securing the fan.</p>
<p>As you see, the cooling fan is dusty and has to be cleaned.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove cooling fan" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-Pavilion-dv7/disassemble-notebook-30.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>UPDATE:</strong></p>
<p>There are only two fans listed in <a rel="nofollow" href="http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01918142.pdf" target="_blank">the service manual</a> for HP Pavilion dv7 series notebook. They are listed on the page 27.</p>
<p><strong>488885-001</strong> for laptops equipped with AMD processor.<br />
<strong>480481-001</strong> for laptops equipped with Intel processors.</p>
<p>One of the DIY-ers had trouble searching for a new replacement fan for her AMD notebook. After the notebook was disassembled, she found that it had an Intel fan installed.</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s her comment:</p>
<blockquote><p>Forget the question I just asked…We opened up our laptop and found the fan for the Intel processor installed instead of the fan for the AMD…apparently these ARE interchangeable…FYI</p></blockquote>
<p>Check out comments 29 and 30. Thanks to Liz for this information.</p>

<p>Before you start, turn off the laptop and remove the battery.</p>
<p><strong>STEP 1. </strong></p>
<p>Remove four screws securing the hard drive and memory covers. Remove both covers.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove hard drive memory covers" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-Pavilion-dv3000-dv3500/replace-damaged-keyboard-02.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 2.</strong></p>
<p>One of the keyboard screws is located under the hard drive and it has to be removed.</p>
<p>In order to remove the hard drive, slide it to the left until the hard drive is disconnected from the connector on the motherboard. Now you can lift up and remove the hard drive.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s not necessary to remove memory modules.</p>
<p>Remove four screws (green circles) securing the keyboard.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove keyboard screws" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-Pavilion-dv3000-dv3500/replace-damaged-keyboard-03.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>

<p>Be careful, the keyboard is still connected to the motherboard.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove keyboard from notebook" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-Pavilion-dv3000-dv3500/replace-damaged-keyboard-05.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 5.</strong></p>
<p>Turn the keyboard upside down and place it on the palm rest.</p>
<p>As you see, the keyboard is connected to the motherboard via two ribbon cables.</p>
<p>Let&#8217;s disconnect the small cable (Connector 1) first.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Keyboard connected to motherboard" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-Pavilion-dv3000-dv3500/replace-damaged-keyboard-06.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 6.</strong></p>
<p>Before you pull the keyboard cable from the connector, the connector has to be unlocked.</p>
<p>In order to unlock the connector, move the black clip about 2 millimeters in the direction show by two arrows.</p>
<p>On the picture below the connector is shown in the unlocked position. Now you can pull the ribbon cable from the connector.</p>
<p><span style="color: #ff0000;"><strong>WARNING!</strong></span> The locking clip (black plastic piece you move) must stay attached to the connector base. If you break the connector, you&#8217;ll have to replace the entire motherboard.</p>

<p><strong>STEP 10.</strong></p>
<p>You can find a new replacement keyboard by the HP spare part number printed on the sticker.</p>
<p>In my case the keyboard part number is <strong>496120-001</strong>.</p>
<p>Some sellers reference by the keyboard model number and in my case it&#8217;s <strong>492991-001</strong>.</p>
<p>You can find a <a rel="nofollow" href="http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?ff3=4&amp;pub=5574673312&amp;toolid=10001&amp;campid=5335918710&amp;customid=Pavilion+dv3500+keyboard&amp;mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fshop.ebay.com%2F%3F_from%3DR40%26_trksid%3Dp3907.m38.l1313%26_nkw%3DPavilion%2Bdv3500%2Bkeyboard%26_sacat%3DSee-All-Categories" target="_blank">brand new keyboard for HP Pavilion dv3500 dv3000 notebooks here</a>.</p>

<p>In this guide I replace damaged keyboard on an HP Pavilion tx1000 notebook. It&#8217;s possible that my guide fits some other HP Pavilion notebooks. Please mention the notebook model number in the comments after the post if it works for you.</p>
<p>I believe these instructions will work for one of the following models: HP Pavilion tx1100, tx1200, tx1300, tx1400.</p>
<p><span id="more-780"></span></p>
<p><script type="text/javascript"><!--
google_ad_client = "pub-5093339941473059";
/* IML-InPost-336x280, created 5/14/09 */
google_ad_slot = "2088981528";
google_ad_width = 336;
google_ad_height = 280;
// --></script><br />
<script src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js" type="text/javascript"></script></p>
<p>Before you start, do not forget to turn off the notebook.</p>
<p><strong>STEP 1.</strong></p>
<p>Remove the battery.</p>
<p>Remove four screws securing the keyboard on the bottom.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove keyboard screws" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-Pavilion-tx1000/replace-damaged-keyboard-02.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 2.</strong></p>
<p>Carefully insert a very small screwdriver between the top side of the keyboard and notebook case.</p>
<p>Lift up the keyboard. Be careful with the keys.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Lift up keyboard" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-Pavilion-tx1000/replace-damaged-keyboard-03.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 3.</strong></p>
<p>Remove the keyboard.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Remove keyboard from notebook" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-Pavilion-tx1000/replace-damaged-keyboard-04.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 4. </strong></p>
<p>Place the keyboard so you can access the cable connector underneath.</p>
<p>The keyboard cable is plugged into the connector on the motherboard. You&#8217;ll have to unlock the connector before removing the cable.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Access cable connector" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-Pavilion-tx1000/replace-damaged-keyboard-05.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>On this picture the cable connector is shown in the locked position.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Keyboard connector locked" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-Pavilion-tx1000/replace-damaged-keyboard-06.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p>On the next picture, the same connector is shown in the unlocked position.</p>
<p>Now you can pull the keyboard cable from the connector.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone" title="Keyboard connector unlocked" src="http://www.insidemylaptop.com/images/HP-Pavilion-tx1000/replace-damaged-keyboard-07.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /></p>
<p><strong>STEP 5.</strong></p>
<p>Remove the keyboard and replace it with a new one.</p>
